Southern has only had seven tournament bids, their last bid being in 2005 in which they lost in the first round to Duke, making their NCAA tournament record 1-7, their only NCAA Tournament win coming in 1993 against Georgia Tech. Barrett said he accepted the job due to the vibrant culture in Louisana and the strive the program has to improve to new heights despite being in a small conference.
