    So, about those faceoffs...

They've become much more harder to win, even with the "CPU Faceoff Difficulty" slider at its lowest possible setting. Any tips or tricks on how to win them.

(On the other hand, they're somehow easier to win using NHL '94 controls).

Yep, I have the same problem. I lowered the slider all the way. Then, I put the slider all the way the other way (just in case it is backwards). The slider has no apparent impact at all. I still lose 95% of my faceoffs. Big change from prior versions (and not in a good way).

After deciding to go with the full tutorial, I think I may have figured out how to win faceoffs for myself now, because I don't think repeatedly jabbing the right stick downwards to win the draw directly doesn't work anymore.

Mix it up, that's the trick.

If you know the basics, as in - learn it from the full tutorial - then the trick is to do different face offs.

I keep winning between 40-70% depending on the opponents.

I get it - people wanted more of a challenge, especially online, so they made it harder. But, especially considering they went to the trouble of having a faceoff slider, would it be too much to ask to have the slider work properly offline? I don't have that much time for gaming, between the job, kids, and normal life, and the last thing I want to do with the time I have is practice faceoffs. I should be able to lower the slider and win to a level that works for me. That's the idea behind sliders, no?

After the patch, you now have a greater chance of winning a face off the longer you hold your grip.

This was done to prevent face off spammers from winning draws unfairly online.

As long as you pick a grip early and choose the right counter move, you'll do fine against the CPU.
              • Tie up beats stick lift
              • Stick lift beats clean win
              • Clean win beats tie up

              • Tie up beats backhand
              • Stick lift beats forehand

Face off ratings are also important. It's much tougher to win clean with a guy who has a low rating. If your guy has a low rating, you'll want to try to win with a stick lift or tie up.
