Very disappointed.. The Grafics are Great and post patch the replay is better. But Im one who just likes to make rosters and let the games play CPu vs CPu.. ofcourse with BB you cant.. I was hoping to even just play as an Olineman.. cant.. So Im hoping to get atleast a $5 trade in value for Some game.. Sad..

Re: A shame
The real shame is that Natural Motion quit after one try. I would like to see how much more they could do with the Next Gen systems higher IPC, which would clear some of the processing hurdles they dealt with on the Current Gen with their complex physics engine.Gamevid4 |videos by DCAL |

Re: A shame
Just played this again, wasnt a huge fan when this first came out but-
truthfully, this game was 1-2 versions away from being a viable competitor to Madden. This game as is needed a few things
1. different camera angles
2. commentary/presentation- which would include players on the sidelines etc. players coming in and out when switching packages etc. no game has yet to do this. but I believe they would have done this based on their true sim approach.
3. a few more customization options.
The game has a franchise mode already. penalties work. it was great to see flags thrown on obvious pass interferences,
the pace was definitely sim. The running game takes patience as does the passing game.
speaking of passing games. best control scheme on this gen. and I also noticed that EA 25's run free took a page out of BB's running control scheme also.
the kicking game was also pretty nice.
I have a modded nfl file with the team names and logos but would like one with actual nfl players alsoComment

Re: A shame
The real shame is that not enough people bought the game for Natural Motion to continue putting money into Backbreaker.
Football fans love to complain about Madden and NCAA games, but they never seem to support any of the products that offer alternatives.Comment

You can't blame them for quitting a project that was losing money.

Re: A shame
You know...I go back and forth with this game. I have rented several times and my emotions range from loving it to wanting to beat it into submission. However, I played the demo again last night just because I am growing tired of the EA alternatives and I have to say I truly enjoyed the experience.
Maybe it was because it was something different, or maybe it's because it plays better pre-patch. Nevertheless, I am going to rent from GF and buy it from them for cheap just to have my fball fix.Comment

Yeah, according to Vgchartz.com they only sold about 300,000 copies of this game for ps3 and x360 combined. I actually think that's pretty damn good from a total number of sells point of view when you consider that no one had ever heard of Natural Motion before BackBreaker was released.
However, that was not enough to turn a profit. They lost money on this game. I think that camera angle in the game cost them a lot of sales.Comment

Re: A shame
even though I still loved the orginal camera..
they did try to move it back alittle bit
but they should've just gave everyone options....and let users choose who they wanted to play online... original cam player or any type cam player.
remember they had alternate control scheme that could've let you play it differently...changing intended receiver with the face buttons and throwing with a face button.....this also gave you a way to look off safety without close camera or Madden vision cone.
but yeah they should've gave the option to let some play with this camera view.

Re: A shame
They had a great base poured and just needed to refine it. They proved that full RTPs could work in a Football game. Unfortunately they needed more time to work on the AI.
I really do think they were not far off from having an amazing game. IMO they should have also allowed players to move the Camera angle if they wanted to. This would have probably increased their sales. They could have kept the upclose view if you wanted to have a "Superstar" mode or something like that.Curently Playing:On PS3- Old PS1 RPGs (Xenogears, FF 7 and 9, FF Tactics)On PC: PUBG And Heroes of the StormI occasionally stream on twitch at twitch.tv/tcfclemsonComment

Re: A shame
I was playing this game just the other day and I forgot how well it did some things.
+ I love the overall graphics and how polished everything looks for a first effort.
+ The physics are intense and you can really feel the weight and distribution of the players as they're running.
+ I actually like the up-close camera angle, but agree, it would have been nice to have more options.
- My biggest gripe was that players seem to crumble too easily and would prefer to preserve their body over grinding out yards.
- The game pacing feels pretty dull but I'm sure much of that was due to no announcers and lack of a broadcast-type presentation.Comment

Re: A shame
It seems like every company who has put out a football game since the exclusive license, has all done something over-the-top except for Nerjyzed that put out BCFX. Only Blitz The League 1 had any kind of notable success and even Midway had enough sense to build a story, make some cool logos, and make it all seem believable, and that was hard to pull off considering Blitz The League was a total arcade-style football game.
But did any of these companies like 2K and NM ever stop and think that trying to be too different was part of why their games weren't a little more successful?
When you read what most football gamers ask for, their wishes seem all centered on a professional football game that reminds them of what we get in real life, and with tons of customization. Instead, we get a game with players built like robots (BackBreaker), and another game with no identity and abominable uniforms (All-Pro Football). And don't even get me started on Frozen Endzone (*shudders*).
I agree that football gamers don't support, well, anything. But Looking at the examples above, a large amount of blame has to be levied against the companies that have put these football games out. Sometimes, being too different just doesn't work.Last edited by FaceMask; 12-27-2013, 08:12 AM.Comment
