Reading the comments I was expecting some straight up bs! But I watched and have close to 0 complaints! I like everything except the hunched over defenders, everyone shouldn't be standing like that at all times, that's the only rediculous thing. Still I just can't say that gonna be that way for certain at all times I just don't know that to be fact. I need to see some up and down gameplay. What looked that bad?? I just don't get it? Like what did you really get to see enough of that just looked so bad is there to complain about?

I wasn't planning on buying an NBA next gen game. I probably will now after seeing the 2K trailer. Just look at it. Looks real. Live is not even in the same ballpark. Here are some things I noticed.

The D. Rose move to basket looks awkward. Why does his head kinda look towards his defender the whole way? It's like he's got a "crick" in his neck. Plus his facial expression is not natural. The Damon Lillard closeup. His face is weird, plus his jersey is standing up off the back of his shoulders like its on a hangar. What the heck? I've seen all these people talk about Melo's stutter step. Watch that part again. It's like he stops unnaturally and then shoots straight up. No momentum. Steve Nash, everyone knows about him, no need to beat his dead horse face into the ground.

I haven't followed this very closely but I do know the LIVE team has had multiple YEARS to produce a game that was ready for NEXT GEN. The graphics are not even close. The gameplay doesn't look close, but maybe they will show something later that proves that wrong. I'm all for NBA Live to be good. I wish it was and I had to make a difficult choice. Right now there is not even a choice. It's not close. 2k14 is next gen, Live is not.
As someone that has played A LOT of 2k over the last 5 years, I look at the 2k trailer and see the same game with a face-lift. Some of the animations even look incredibly similar to current gen games. 2k13 and 2k12 significantly changed my outlook on 2k... the gameplay wasn't very balanced and online was miserable (in my opinion... others will differ). I didn't even buy 2k14 because the game lost most of its enjoyment for me. And, no, it isn't because I suck at the game. My win percentage online is around 75%.

Having also played a lot of EA Sports games, I can say that EA generally makes games that are more fun to play over a long period of time (again... my opinion... others will disagree).

So, when I see a new, fresh (albeit flawed looking) basketball game it gets me excited even though it may not have the pretty graphics that 2k has. Graphics only get you so far... Plus, I like the competition. We all (yes even those people that are physically hurt by this trailer) win if Live does well...

Re: NBA Live 14 Gameplay Trailer

Watched it a bunch of times, seems like big problems with the transitions in the animations, although some of the animations themselves looked smooth, like a dribbling sequence and Tim Duncan taking his signature banker.

The problem seems that when there's not a signature animation taking place there's a bunch of herky jerky movements going on, so I suspect the majority of the gameplay animations are going to look herky jerky. When you're playing normally with 10 guys running around with those herky jerky animation transitions the game is going to look a little funky, well a lot funky.

Graphically, if you told me that was current gen I wouldn't bat an eye, nor would I say WOW, they did THAT on PS3/360, not very visually impressive, but I really don't care that much about graphics if the game plays great.

Kind of curious though about what seems to be a disparity in quality of some of the player models, Steve Nash sequence his character could pass for a good PS2 graphical Nash. Some look better than others but just not seeing next gen, for instance you get a fairly close up look at Kyrie going up and I don't really see his muscularity/detail, etc., making me think that the game is going to look mostly like the Nash player model, kind of cartoony and lacking detail.

When the game is zoomed out it starts to really look ordinary, I will reserve judgement on the game itself when I play it.

What I suspect though is an easier pick up and play version of basketball with the focus on triggering a limited number of signature animations for those ooh and aah moments with the rest of the game animating not too well.

I think what they're trying to put together is a game just functional enough, just easy enough to play, with just enough OMG moments for the casual player to be able to enjoy with the larger focus being their Ultimate Team mode.

Make the game just fun/functional enough to get people addicted to Ultimate Team and make their money that way. I think they're going to leave the heavy sim market to 2K.

Based on that trailer there is no way I would buy that game day one, no way. I will red box it for a day or two to see how it plays and more than likely never touch it again, unless the gameplay is REALLY surprising. I'll let you know in a month.

                  Cons:
                  - In NBA Live, the ignite engine isn't really giving me any life. The crowd is consistently fist pumping and jumping. Hopefully they don't do that if the home team is getting blown out.
                  - Besides on the opening of the trailer, help defense is non-existent. (Seems like you have to call a play in order for uncontrolled players to move)
                  - (In my opinion) Everyone on the court has bad posture, and run with a hunched back.
                  - Not sure if it was just for the trailer, but if this was actual 5v5 gameplay then some offenses didn't have all their players on the court. (Bulls DRose dunk & Heat DWade's dunk)
                  - Player Models aren't as horrible as others are making it out to be, but everyone does have the same build.
                  - Skin resembles a plastic texture.
                  - It's a slight pause between dribbling and the shot. Not really a fluid transition at all.
                  - (Not really picky over players' faces unlike some fans) But half of these players don't look close to the real person, but the number is the only thing that counts to me.
                  Pros:
                  - Dribbling is superior compared to 2k.
                  - Shooting animations are an upgrade.
                  - Stadiums look stunning, minus the crowd having 2 animations per person.
                  - A fan of the player sense. I like how Kyrie Irving senses the open man before tossing up the alley oop.
                  -

Final thought: NBA Live seems more like an 1v1 type game. Doesn't look like it really involves the whole team. For it to be next generation gaming, the graphics are really basic.

Their graphics are insanely better. Even from the short clips, the A. I. looks better. Did you see Live's trailer at all btw? Their player models look like plastic dolls. They player movement is taken straight from that joke of a game NBA Elite 13. I didn't see any player emotion in Live. The A. I. In Live is once again a joke. In the clip with Nash where he's screened and dribbles down the lane, there is no reaction from the defender to intercept the lane and interrupt nashes shot towards the hoop. All NBA Live 14 is, is a slight beefed up port of NBA Elite. Most of the code derives itself from Elite. I wish they could start from scratch, but unfortunately that would take them years and years to do. I will never ever purchase an NBA game from EA sports again. They're a joke of a company. The best I will ever do is rent their sports games, and that is it.
Wow... you sure can extrapolate a lot out of a limited, zoomed in trailer

I agree 2k looks nice, and yes even better than Live in some ways. But to say anything about the relative guts of the two games based on these produced videos is a bit... reaching.

Give Live a chance... we all win if there are two successful developers out there!

Yep, just went and switched my pre-order to 2K14. I was hoping Live would come back strong, but after what I saw today, I'm not impressed. It doesn't look next gen at all. The 2K14 trailer absolutely blew me away.

Forgive me for not reading through the 450+ comments (so this has probably been expressed), but I've watched this multiple times trying to reconcile this trailer with what I thought were reasonable standards for next gen.

Everything is so rigid and disjointed. It's like the lower body, upper body, and head are captured separately, making for pretty realistic robots, but terrible basketball players.

Either that, or EA went to a park and got a bunch of old dudes to mo-cap for them because, at best, the base animations look like amateurs to mimic some signature moves (awkward and disjointed).

If this were a true first effort then I'd be less disappointed.

It might be good "sim" gameplay... we don't know yet, and frankly I don't think there is any way to tell if either game is "sim" from these two trailers. Graphics and animations have nothing (or at least very little) to do with "sim" as I understand it.

Well, depends on how one thinks of this. Live has always been the pick and play basketball game with 2K always being considered the complicated basketball controls. Live 10 was a fun game, and in my opinion was better than 2K10. If this game is fun, then that's justified, if it's not fun (ex. Elite) then that's where no likes it.
