    Defensive suggestion

I am up against a guy who runs his qb for 2000 yards a season. It's not the conventional read option, but a sprinted rollout with drag and wheel routes to the same side so he can sprint upfield or toss to one of the drags. Man doesn't work because this year they bounce off the sidelines and defenders are too stupid to pursue after the route ends. I usually put ends on contains and a lb or fast dt on spy, but swerving is an issue. If I use blitz to cut off his qb the screens kill me. I'm thinking of a 335 cover two or three with de's on contain and one qb spy. The short zones will help contain the run and the contains will help with the screens. Am I way off?

Yeah the thing that sucks for the user is YEAH you might put a LB or DLine in a QB Contain or spy but it never works the QB just runs right by them and then defensive player reacts it's pathetic.

I am great at offense due to the stupidity of the defense, as I am horrible at defense due to the same issue. Is this really an issue of a broken system or a rating issue? Why do these players just stand there and watch the ball carrier run by? Can you enhance their ratings in these areas with point progression and if so what should I progress? For instance for a DB... What is best? Pursuit, awareness, play recognition, man or zone. Am I just screwed? Are the players always going to do this no matter what I upgrade?

Unfortunately there appears to be no consistent setup to prevent qb swerving. I would say on the defensive side of the ball that acceleration, pursuit and speed are pretty important. Man or zone depends on the system you run. Pursuit allows the db to chase down those wr's when they break. Lb's don't typically have good zone or man and upgrading those gets expensive. Hit power is another stat that's expensive for defenders. When I look to sign free agents or draft I look for durability, speed, acceleration, hit power, jump, toughness, injury as some of my base stats. I start with durability and if that is below b I don't even look at anything else. Next is acceleration; A for db and safety, B for everyone else. I like high hit power for safeties and linebackers. It varies from position to position but the most expensive upgrades are the ones you want to have high ratings in.

I can not create a new thread bc I just joined. Could someone please please help!? I am the worst defensive player in madden. I havent had a stop in 5 ultimate team games, needless to say I am 0-5 now. It seems every one runs read option and shotgun counters over and over and over. Its to the point I might just give up on Madden and call it the worst game ever!! Please help a long time gamer find his love again.

Try playing in an organized sim league. Games are more realistic and you won't see the cheese you get against random opponents.
