2014 PRESEASON NEWS
After watching Boise State make it to the National Championship game, and play a rematch with their Week 1 loss to Washington, I am not sure how 2014 could be any better. Maybe a 10 win Eastern Michigan season
Well Conference Realignment and all the Coaching changes made news this spring, let's take a look at the top news heading into the fall, as we get ready for opening kickoff of the 2014 season.
TOP-25

Ohio State lost to Michigan in Week 15 and then again in the Big Ten Title game missing out on their chance for a 2013 National Title. Now in 2014 the Buckeyes are starting #1. Can Michigan do it again as they are scheduled to meet up once again in Week 15.
Virginia Tech feels like the BCS robbed them of a spot in the National Title. They failed to make it to the ACC Title game in 2013, but were #3 in the BCS rankings going into the Championship week. However when Alabama upset #1 South Carolina and Washington beat UCLA in the Pac-12 title game, the Hokies were jumped in the rankings leaving them out of the game. Now they start #2, but with a Week matchup against #18 Notre Dame, their season could be over before it gets started.
The 2013 National Champion
Wasington Huskies will start 2014 at #3. However with new coordinators on both Offense and Defense and a schedule that now includes #20 BSU as well as #17 USC, #15 UCLA and #4 Oregon, the Huskies could have a hard time repeating.
The
Oregon Ducks made a huge coaching change in the offseason after losing 4 games in 2013. Still loaded with talent and the ability to score, the Ducks will start the year at #4.
#5 Texas A&M, #6 Alabama, #7 South Carolina and #8 Florida all have the talent to be playing for a National Title. Problem is they all play in the SEC and end of beating each other, keeping any of them of getting there.
#9 Michigan has a pretty interesting schedule to start the year, not playing a Top-25 program until Week 11 when they face instate rival Michigan State. However with games in Week 1 against new Big Ten Cincinnati, and a Week 2 matchup with Miami FL, it won't be a cake walk.
#10 Florida State rounds out the Top-10. If they can beat #2 V.T. In Week 3 and #8 Florida in Week 14, then the Seminoles could put themselves in the Title talk, but those are big if's.

MANZIEL FOR HEISMAN?
Johnny Football passed for 2927 yards with 28 TD's and 7 INT's, well rushing for 912 yards and 6 scores, but it still wasn't good enough to repeat at the Heisman winner.
This year he is back for his Junior season. Looking for a National Title and 1 more Heisman trophy before taking his show to the pros. However he will face some tough competition as
SO QB Jameis Winston (FSU) is looking to improve on his 2795 yards, 31 TD's and 13 INT's he threw as a Freshman. Let us not also forget that like Manziel, Winston also makes plays with his feet as he rushed for 960 yards and 7 scores.
Both QB's will also be challenged by 3 RB's.
UConn's SR Lyle McCombs will look to improve on his 1454 yards and 15 TD's on the ground, plus his 536 yards and 6 scores receiving.
Alabama's JR TJ Yeldon also had a big year last year rushing for 1511 yards and 11 scores, well adding another 3 scores and 200 yards on receptions. he starts the year #4 in the voting.
Round out the Top-5 preseason vote getters is
South Carolina's Mike Davis. The JR had 1343 yards and 15 scores last season on the ground, and will look to improve on those #'s again this year.
CONFERENCE USA OUTLOOK
It appears that it's going to be a battle between
UCF and
USF once again for the Conference Crown. UCF won it last year going 8-4 Overall by 7-1 within the conference. Well USF went 9-3, their loss to the Knights kept them form winning the title.
UCF looks on paper to be the inside favorite again as they return QB B. Bortles who threw for 2982 yards along with 32 TD's and just 8 INT's. They also return their 1000 yard rusher in Stevie Johnson (1048 yds and 12 TD's), as well as WR R. Hall (59 rec 890 yards and 8 TD's).
Western Michigan played Toledo in the MAC Championship last season winning 9 games. This year the Broncos will start the year as the #3 ranked C-USA team, however they will do it with a new QB at the helm in SR Zach Wynn who is also the returning leading rusher as well. Wynn threw for 425 yards and 1 TD in 2013. With just 69 yards on the ground, the Broncos will use a pair of RS FR in Fabian Johnson (70) and G. Galloway (70) to lead their attack this year.
Well WMU is picked to finish #3, the
EMU Eagles are picked to finish #9 out of #10 teams, with only
UTSA picked to finish worse.
Between WMU and EMU we see
FIU picked #4, North Texas #5, FAU, #6, CMU #7 and Texas State #8
EMU'S BRONSON HILL NAMED TO 1ST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE
Bronson Hill enters CUSA as one of the top runners in the conference. With 1182 yards (5.1 Avg) and 6 scores last season on the ground and another 400 yards and 3 score from the air. Hill will look to finish out his college career on a high note. Joining Hill on the 1st Team All-Conference is
SR RG C. Allison.
EMU however did have 6 player named to the 2nd Team, including 5 Defensive starters (DT's C. Maughmer,T. Linser, OLB T. Brown, CB D. Scott and SS P. Cotton) as well a LT B. McFadden.
