    2K5 on PS2 ?'s

A few questions I hope I can get help with. I'm in the process of buying an old PS2 solely for the purpose of this game. Is there any difference in gameplay or presentation between the PS2 and Xbox?

I'm interested in updated rosters. How do you download them on a PS2?

And lastly, I've heard of people complaining about bad DB play as well as CPU QB play, is this just when you play human vs CPU? Is there even an option to play coach mode (my preference of play)?

Thanks in advance. The answers to these questions will help me with my decision to get get this game and finally dump Madden 12 on my PS3.

The xbox version is superior in the graphics department, it also has full highlights during halftime (ps2 just has still screenshots, unless you have the ps2 HD). Other than that the gameplay is pretty much identical.

To get rosters you'll need to get a max drive. There's a few threads around here explaining the process. Regarding the db/cpu play. Yeah, sometimes they'll do some funky stuff but with roster tweaks I think I've helped in this department. And yes there is coach mode.

    Hope that helped a bit.

Do you know how to resolve this xbox issue? The 320gb Harddrive is an offical xbox driver purchased new from gamestop for over $100.

"Hello I have installed the xplorer360_320gb version and was able to see partitian 3 with the compatibility folder and udata files. I was able to insert the updated 2013 Roster files unto the 320gb (official xbox hdd) however when i disconnect the cable and plug the hdd back into the xbox, turn on the xbox 360 with my nfl2k5 disk in the slot it comes on, but when i go to load the new roster the file isn't there! I shut it down, took out the hard drive, reattached the cable and opened xplorer360_320gb version and was able to see the new rosters in the compatibility udata file in partitian 3. Why wasnt it visible on the xbox 360 slim?? Anyone please????? I sure wish there was a new espn nfl2k football game being made, or did EA Sports weasel another NFL exclusive agreement again???"

There is no HDMI for the PS2.

Holy ****...I think I have the PS2 hard drive because when I saw you say - "only shows pictures" a whole memory flashed into my head about buying the HDD for the PS2. Memories

Is the ps2 hard drive an external thing? I don't recall my old ps2 having a hard drive. I thought that was the reason for the memory card. It's been so long since I fooled with a ps2. I plan on picking one up this weekend and just need to figure out what I need for rosters (max drive, right? Not quite sure what that is) and highlights. Do I also need a transfer cable??

                Thanks for your help.

Yeah I heard that if you got the actual PS2 HD from Sony, and hooked it up to the PS2, then it would have video highlights like on the XBox. But I never actually tried it. The PS2 HD didn't come out when the PS2 was released, it only had memory cards for saving data. From what I heard, the official PS2 HD was solely to let the game save data like video highlights in NFL2k5 for example, though I'm not sure any games other than NFL2K5 took advantage of that.

Does anyone have the actual PS2 HD and can confirm that video highlights do work in NFL2K5 when you plug that in? The gameplay is pretty much identical? Any gameplay differences you have noted?

I'm pretty sure the PS2 HD was released mainly for one of the Final Fantasy games (the online one I think), but eventually other games took advantage of it. Back in the PS2 heyday none of my friends had the HD so I can't really speak on it too much. If you search the forums you'll see some threads of people confirming that highlights work.

Yeah to get updated rosters you'll need a max drive. Or do a search for Max Media Manager PS2. I think I seen a few on Ebay awhile back. It's a cheaper alternative and the one I used to use. Just PM me if you find one and want to make sure it's the right one.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. I am beginning to think though that it may just be easier to pick up a used Xbox. it would probably be cheaper too. So if I want to go to Xbox route, I just need the 360 and a transfer cabel, right? Is there a specific hard drive size for the 360 I need in order to run the highlights? Anything else I need? Thanks.

I bought a PS2 hard drive on ebay just for this purpose. It works. And it's awesome. Get one. You won't be disappointed. Hands down the best game recap feature in sports video game history.

To update the rosters, you'll need Action Replay Max for PS2. I bought that too. The guys here are great - they do updated rosters and schedules.

If you have an HDTV, you'll want to get the PS2 component cable (with red, purple and green plugs).

Get all that stuff of ebay for less money than a new Madden game - and you'll be WAY happier.
