Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
06 was my fav ncaa of all time had so much fun with mizzou and brad smith. had so much fun with this game that i could overlook the gamebreaking direct snap cheese where it is literally 5-10 yards a play without fail by using it out of shotgun. also the fact that the deep ball was basically money with any qb or wr. thats the thing i think ppl forget is that our expectations were lower and the technology was much more impressive back then as we expect way too much now and nit pick every aspect rather than just play like we used to. 06 like i said was my favorite but like every other ncaa there are gamebreaking glitches, we just seem to be more understanding back then. if it were the EXACT same game ported over to 360 today, like literally the exact same (not possible i know) but it would be ripped to shreds on these forums. /rant overLast edited by pujolsformvp21; 10-23-2013, 10:58 PM. -

I usually stay out of the threads that praise old gen NCAAF games because of what you just said. Honestly, those games weren't so great. Just watch some footage on youtube and you want to puke at the thought of it. Not just from a graphic standpoint either. Gameplay wise, NCAA 14 blows it out of the water. The only impressive thing IMO was the FCS schools but really, is that a game changer? I don't know.like i said was my favorite but like every other ncaa there are gamebreaking glitches, we just seem to be more understanding back then. if it were the EXACT same game ported over to 360 today, like literally the exact same (not possible i know) but it would be ripped to shreds on these forums. /rant over

Take your guys' view, take the view that those games were perfect, and just place the dial smack dab in the middle and it's probably close to the truth.
I am sure we all, or at least the majority, had a LOT of fun with those games. That being said, yes, the deep ball was cheese, there were some insanely cheesy money plays, I just think back then, in the era before the "Online Pro Gamer" we really didn't look at it like the way we look at it now. I would play my buddy on the same screen and we would both drop back 30 yards and rocket the ball all over the field. We were young, we didn't care about sliders or "sim ball." When I do look at vids from those games, it is pretty clear how easy it is to move the ball and get away with some pretty cheesetastic strategies.
That being said, they were feature rich and stacked with gameplay options."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

The biggest difference between then and now is that back then, these worked! From day one, straight out of the box, the features all worked. I don't think there's been a game this gen that can boast that all of its features worked 100% as advertised, even after patching. The secret to winning:

Yup, it worked on last-gen because everyone had the same game. You didn't have to worry that your friend had a patched version of the game. all you needed was the disc and a memory card and you could go over your friends house and have it at and knew you'd get solid gameplay 100% of the time. The biggest difference between then and now is that back then, these worked! as for 06 and the direct snap out of shotgun cheese mentioned, this was only really an issue vs the CPU. All you had to do is manually control a player and put him next to the D-end and the RB won't get 5-10 yards every time.
But against the CPU in the standard formations, it was very effective. A safety blitz or an OLB blitz play could stop it, but the CPU didn't recognize it and call those plays enough. especially on 3rd downs, even 3rd and long, and the D was in pass coverage, you could run those shotgun direct snaps and get first downs , especially with a quick RB. And on 3rd or 4th and short, it was pretty much an auto first down. and that was one of the problems with the game. (vs the CPU, not really problem vs a human play-caller)
I'm wondering if there's a way to improve this exploit vs the CPU with sliders in 06. one of the reasons why I like NCAA 03 is because issues like this don't exist and it's really a very balanced game vs the CPU. NCAA 2005 the defense was much better at defending the deep ball, in fact it probably had the best pass defending of any NCAA last-gen game, but the running game and closedown lanes had its share of problems in 2005.Comment

Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
Actually I was watching some old videos on youtube and that's what spurred me to make the purchases. All that matters to me is what a game looks like in motion. The last gen games looked beautiful in motion because of the smooth running animations. That is my biggest gripe with current gen. Looks great in stills but horrible in motion as the players run around like the tin man.Comment

Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
I agree completely, but I don't even think current gen looks great in stills. The stadiums look bigger and more realistic, the crowd in the stadium more detailed. That's about it. The player models clearly looked better in stills and in motion on last gen. Last gen suspends your disbelief, it's cheesy at times, but it suspends your disbelief. In no way does current gen suspend your disbelief.Actually I was watching some old videos on youtube and that's what spurred me to make the purchases. The physics, the player controls, even the features were better and more user friendly on last gen. Also the game was much smoother since it was pound for pound a more efficient engine. Last gen had all the details too, like the chain gain, even detailed sidelines from NCAA 2005-2008 on last gen. You could overlook the quirks because the game was so fun and satisfying to play.Comment

Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
So, house rules, eh? When I played 06 it was in human vs human games, and in those games, it wasn't really a problem, because it can be stopped by controlling an outside linebacker and moving to the side the RB is lined up on next to the DE. Against human players who don't know how effective it is, it can be used effectively. But perhaps the run blocking or break block sliders could make the HB direct harder to execute.Originally posted by WednesdayJust don't call that play. I've been enjoying NCAA 06 on my PS2 for nearly a decade, and I've never called that direct snap play. Easy, no sliders needed!
Yeah, I figured as much. Haven't played 06 for years, but I think I probably did that back when the game came out. Do you play on All-American or Heisman?Originally posted by WednesdayAs for the deep ball, it was definitely a problem out of the box, but can be fixed easily enough with sliders. Crank up the CPU knockdown and INT sliders, and the deep ball gets a lot more dangerous.Comment

Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
Love it. So who still has the roster sets for 06 and 07 for the original xbox? I have them for PS2 but still looking for the original Xbox.
By the way, for those who only played the PS2 versions, I encourage you to check out the original Xbox game versions with component video cables. NCAA 06 was in 480p and blows the PS2 versions out of the water. Heck, play MVP Baseball 05 (which was in 720p) on the original xbox with component cables -- it looks awesome.

Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
check gamefaqs.com, there are rosters for 06 and 07 on the first xbox.
I agree those games looked better on the Xbox, everything was much sharper and looked more upscaled.By the way, for those who only played the PS2 versions, I encourage you to check out the original Xbox game versions with component video cables. Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
You guys are killing me with these last gen threads. Making me want to play my ps2 versions of 06&09 even more. I'm supposed to be focused on my Buffeye roster project, but I keep having visions of a detailed historic roster playing 1997 Michigan v.s. 2002 Ohio State. God I miss historic teams and mini drills... and ball carriers with hips and backs that leaned into cuts... the good ole days of NCAA."Statistics always remind me of a fellow who drowned in a river where the average depth was three feet." -Woody HayesComment

Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
The presentation in some of those older games was amazing. I don't know how it's possible that EA went backwards in presentation. I do like the gameplay in NCAA 14 I'll give them that. But the presentation could be a lot better.Comment

Re: Just purchased an XBOX and NCAA 06, 07
I myself am a last gen gamer. My question to you guys is why not 08 the last one or the series. I too played 06 to death. The play action deep ball was my main issue. I may have to try 05 due to a previous post about it having the best CPU pass defense. I too play it on component cables on a 52 inch projection I have upstairs. It's funny but I only play coach mode in this gens ncaa games. I'm not sure if 14 has this but I saw this last night when playing 08. The play clock was about to expire so I called a time out and my qb rose from behind center in disgust and made a time out animation, showing his disgust.Comment
