Got the game on Tuesday (XBOX 360), I've just about finished Wrestlemania mode; need to fully clear the historical objectives in a small handful of matches yet, but I've at least won every match in the mode.
This game is a very, very polished version of WWE 13. I say that as a very good thing; since the necessary series reboot that was WWE 12, this series has lacked polish, IMO. Things like load times being snappy, legacy glitches being fully addressed, functional and stable Community Creations servers from the get-go, menu navigation being smooth and quick... nothing that will wow a normal person who doesn't pay attention to these things and certainly they don't make the game great themselves, but the effort in making the experience seamless and to keep the user in the ring is noticed by me and much appreciated.
Gameplay-wise, I'm playing on Normal difficulty right now simply for purposes of unlocking everything. The AI is notably more aggressive; there's less in-ring dead time. The change to reversals which eliminate endless grapple reversal chains is very welcome. Reversals are harder in general to execute; I used to be a master at it in the older games even with the indicators off and the sliders lowered, but on all-default settings this year the CPU can sustain offense (and I'm sure the case is even more so at a higher difficulty). Commentary is the same as it's always been; notably better in the historic mode because it's canned, probably still subpar in a standard match.
I'm looking forward to diving into Universe mode very soon, because this game is pretty fun. I can already tell I'll get more out of it than WWE 13, and hopefully I get as much out of it as I did WWE 12.
EDIT: one really minor thing that made me smile - with John Cena, I used a hammer throw Shawn Michaels into the turnbuckle, and he did that front-flip-up-the-turnbuckle thing that is one of his in-ring trademarks upon impact. I'm wondering what other little details are hidden in this game.
