    Are challenges completely broken?

I've been in several situations where a ball was caught with one or even both feet clearly out of bounds, but even after challenging it's always a catch.

Is this completely broken this year? I mean it's sorta broken every year, but this time it's really bad.

In fact, I haven't had one challenge go my way yet on clear plays that should have been overturned.

I'd say yup. I've had challenges that I won that didnt actually overturn the play...they will say challenge won but then the ball and down are at the same spot as before the challenge and also what you described.

I barely even try anymore unless I'm desperate and can afford to lose the timeout

What really sucks is challenging an offensive incompletion on the sidelines, only to see your WR take one of those false steps, getting two of the same foot in instead, when he could have had 3...

I lost a challenge for a touchdown because of this. My guy caught the ball and it looked like he had plenty of room but they called him out of bounds. So I challenge and the replay shows one leg coming down but before it lands it switches and goes back up then the other leg starts coming down. It looks insanely awkward and led to him only getting one foot in bounds when it looked like it should have been 3 or 4.

So I lost the challenge, as always, and thats when I officially gave up on challenging plays.

I would also have to say yes & the 'officials' are terrible.

Yup, the challenge system is awful. I don't even bother unless I have timeouts to spare or it's an absolutely critical one that I need to at least try.

So annoying when the option to challenge just disappears and you get screwed.

At least on Xbox, pressing LT right after a play will result in your challenging it (if Madden allows it to be challenged, which itself can be unpredictable). I actually won my very first challenge in the game where the CPU's pass reception was clearly out of bounds, but my factually-correct challenges after that haven't won to the point where I sometimes just don't challenge the ruling on a play that I would have challenged in real life.

EDIT: Also, aside from the obvious lack of penalties, not sure why they messed with the refs audio/vocals. (Another) obvious step back.

Yes, they are broken. But they have never worked in any edition of Madden in the first place. "Broken" kinda implies something once worked.

With the power and space of the new systems I'd expect this is all fixed?

                    Re: Are challenges completely broken?

I've been dealing with the sideline catch issue all season. Those calls never get it done the proper way.
The one that stung me the most was last night. Was in my first year of my CFM. Playing as the Saints. Had a 15-1 record. Playing in the divisional round against the 49ers. Outside the fact that Gore was running over d-linemen and Kaepernick (however the hell you spell his name) was running all over the field. I managed to stay in the game. Fourth quarter with like 3 mins left its 3rd and 11 score is 27-20 I'm losing. 49ers have the ball. Had some success with my offense in the 2nd half so I was confident that a stop here would get me back in the game. Kaepernick throws the ball to the right side of the field. It was clearly one foot in and one foot was out. I challenge thinking this was an easy call and it'd be 4th down. Nope they get the first down and kick a field goal. By the time I get the ball back I have no timeouts with less than a minute to go. Let's just ironically say that the 49ers and Ravens are playing for the Super Bowl in my CFM after the first year.
I'm still heated. Just gonna try for the Super Bowl next year.
I won't lie though a small part of me wanted to just turn the game off and start the game over later.

Why not? The game cheated you out of an opportunity to win the game. Granted, who knows if you would have tied it up to win, but you never even got a chance to try.

If you lost fair and square, then move on and try again next season. But you have a legitimate beef with the way the game ended.

True you're right. I was just caught up in the emotion of the game and just took the loss for what its worth. Thinking back on it I should have just replayed the game because in the off-season Brees retired on me. Now I have a rookie quarterback who last name I can't pronounce and can't edit.

To not derail this guys thread, I have a problem with how they challenge its always an obscure camera angle. I can't see the whole play because I guy is in the way. With the sideline catches, end zone catches and fumbles I've had my fair share of blown calls majority in the cpu favor but a few went my way a few times.

If you didn't advance too far into free agency/draft and you have a save before the SB, you can always go back. BTW, Brees will come back the following year. I think he almost always comes out of retirement.

You can always just go look at the instant replay and use whatever angle you want to double-check it, but that's only after the challenge.

I've never had a call go my way. I've seen some really bad calls go the CPU's way with the game on the line, and those are the most infuriating moments.
