To me being a talented wrestler doesn't mean how many acrobatic moves they can get in.

Now it's just a series of high spots and it almost seems like each wrestler is mentally going through thier own checklist of moves to make sure they perform all thier signature spots every match. One guy will do his 3 or 4 moves, then the other guy does the same and the rest are just frantic reversals. It's all done at a lightening quick pace or a pace that is much faster than it should be after the guys have wrestled for 15-20 minutes and supposedly beat each other down. Maybe it's to cater to the ADD crowd these days that want no slow spots in a match or the structure of the shows which demands constant action. It's like action movies these days, low on plot and character development and high on mindless action and big explosions. Watch HBK, Hart, Flair in his prime, Savage, Steamboat, Austin. They knew how to work a match.

You get these guys going though a longer match and at a time when they should be worn down, they all of a sudden get this enormous amount of energy so they can perform thier set moves to finish off the match. And there's no build up to it, it happens right after they reverse something. The matches feel disjointed and more choreographed. They seem even more fake.

Take for instance Rob Van Dam. The guy seems to be worshipped but he is one of the worst "wrestlers" I have ever seen. A great gymnast but a terrible wrestler. He can't sell or set any pace to a match. He's just killing time until he can perform the same half dozen acrobatic moves to close the match. John Cena is another one. The only one that reminds me of old school guys is CM Punk. Don't really know any of the mid tier guys but from what I have seen, the wrestling again is by the numbers.

Personality wise, again CM Punk has some charisma but guys like Randy Orton and Cena and Lesner don't have that presence like the Rock, Stone Cold, Hogan, HBK, Hart, Rick Rude etc.. all had. And judging by ratings and PPV buys compared to 15 years ago, I'm not the only one who feels that way.
WWE's weekly match output is really high as far as good to great matches go. Punk, Bryan, Goldust!, Cesaro, Orton, Shield, etc have been on fire. Yeah if you want colorful characters and good storylines that make sense you're out of luck.

However, the quality match output has been very high this year. The Shield has had the best in ring year by a group since the Dangerous Alliance in 1992. Yeah full shows are a drag, but I could easily rattle off 20-30 matches I think are pretty great from 2013.

I can't wait to pick this game up(my cheap self is waiting on buy 2 get 1) 100 caws slots and improved A.I = fun times.

With almost 6 hrs of gameplay ...working my way through mania mode i have to say this is the most fun I have had in years. maybe since n64 NM days. The WM mode us just awesome..I thought attitude era was sick but this year is amazing. At Being a huge wrasslin' for for many years. The glory days were great. So much to do with UT streak mode and all un-lockables this is one big step ahead.

I guess I ask this here then. Is there a way to make crowd sound high and turn commentary off without turning the wrestlers voices off?

Playing Defeat the Streak as Savage, beat the **** out of Taker. Red head, bleeding, red body.. throw him into the ring, go up for the elbow and he stands up so I just do a regular move.. reversed.. and from than on out, for the next minute, everything is reversed until he gets his finisher.

I had three finishers saved up and didn't get to use a single one. I used an OMG at the beginning of the match, but that was it. I had a 4th saved finisher coming before all his reversals, than after all his reversals, the signature and finisher were gone.

Well poop! I just finished week one of my test Universe. No cut scenes from the first five rivalry matches. The Shield defeats Rey Sin in a rivalry match. Sweet! Cue the music for The Shield...nope. Instead I hear a church bell and dead man walking. WTF?

Okay, just a little glitch. Now to the only match that had a cut scene. Del Rio vs Sheamus is the rivalry. Del Rio beats Orton. Cool. Del Rio's music is interrupted by, "If you smeeeelllll!" Holy crap! The Rock jumped in the mix....nope! Pans to the stage and there is Sheamus. Awesome. Forgot to mention that Del Rio entrance was awful because his music was playing with someone's rock entrance theme at the same time.

Got the game yesterday and played it today (for 7 hours straight!). Anyway, I love everything about it so far. The graphics look pretty good, the gameplay is good, animations look nice, and of course the neat features are pretty cool. Messed with the sliders and have had some good results. It wasn't my first match but I played a "normal pace" match between The Great Khali (CPU) vs Big Show (me) and Khali actually beat me! Oh and of course the difficulty is on normal and is challenging in a way (this is, after all, my first wrestling game in two years). That loss is my only loss so far. But I'm impressed with the entire game and can't wait to play it again tomorrow.

                    Same as last year.

Quick: Quicker finishers, opponent gets injured quicker
Epic: Takes longer to get finishers, takes longer to injure opponent

When I get a response like that it makes me think hard about the comparison between eras. You make a lot of great points there. WWE in 2013 can't seem to have a match finish clean without a finisher, or at least one of the wrestlers doing their comeback or sequence of moves.

I have to say when I used to watch ROH a few years ago I loved the fact that I didn't know how a match was going to end. Apart from a few PPV main events you can see the end coming too easily.

One issue I have with this game is There are too many high impact moves off of weak (chain/no groggy) grapples in this game. A weak front grapple should not turn into a high-impact Power Slam. I think those should be reserved for strong (groggy) grapples.

I think all movesets need to be rearranged for the fact alone.

While 30 Years of Wrestlemania doesn't splice in actual commentary like The Attitude Era mode did (although actually hearing Savage's voice over his in-game character was pretty cool), I did notice that they use audio from the actual matches. I was smiling when I could hear Andre's grunt as he headbutted the post at WM 3. Also, if you happen to glance at the video board during the Steamboat/Savage match, it looks like real video that you're playing. Amazing.

On a side note, I love it when 3MB's music plays during the opening screen with The Rock. It's an inadvertently funny mash-up.

You nailed it on the head. A match ending without a finisher or thier "moveset" is like a day without sunshine in todays WWE, and it has to be done suddenly for some reason. Look at the Steamboat\Savage WM3 match or some of those classic NWA Steamboat\Flair matches from the old days or the Hart\Austin I Quit match from WM. Totally unpredictable as to the moves used and no need for thier typical finishes and audience didn't expect it, what they expected was the match could end in any way possible from any move and that added drama because of that unpredictability. Now everyone uses the Hulk Hogan formula which was the always same type of match. The hulking up at the end to win thier match. But back then Hogan's type of wrestling was the exception, now it's the rule.

The old guys just knew when to slow the pace and when not to and acted accordingly. If it was a long brutal match, they would show the effects of that after 15 minutes, none of the magical energy to pull off thier high spot moves out of nowhere. It gave authenticity to a match. If a guy worked on the leg the whole match then the other guy would sell that the rest of the match. Guys like Flair and Hart would do moves that targeted specific body parts in anticipation of putting on the figure 4 or the sharpshooter. It was logical wrestling.

It's like the game itself. WWE13 was a reversefest and OMG moments. WWE14 has a better flow to the matches so it's appropriate that it's a tribute to the 80's and 90's because it better mimics that type of wrestling.
