It's just pointless for any franchise playing fan for many reasons.

For example: Suppose I'm playing a MyGM career with the Pelicans, I'm doing the right things and so I see some VC coming in. I'm close to buying an upgrade.

I then take a break and play some quick games. This results in more VC coming in.

I go back to MyGM with MORE VC than I had the last time I played it. I can now buy an upgrade "My GM" does not actually deserve.

Also, as it's been said before, even if the VC would stop being a cross-mode thing, it still makes the thing really annoying. Football Manager is a GREAT example mentioned in this thread. The Manager has a series of attributes that dynamically change depending on user made decisions. How is that not more immersive than VC is beyond me.

People being angry for the right reasons. VC being in MyGM and people hating it was a really predicable response if you ask me. I was excited about 2k14 next gen. But I'm really not buying a PS4 if the VC madness will be part of a game mode that is supposed to be an accurate representation of, well, being a GM.
DING DING DING! This is the exact reason why VC is terrible. I could care less that 2k is selling it because there's no chance in hell of me buying it. But when VC earned from one mode overlaps onto the other, it makes it impossible to run your association realistically.

I shouldn't be able to improve MYGM just because I played and won a bunch of exhibitions games against my buddy, or I had a few good games with My Player. These things happen in different spaces, independent of one another. The fact that VC is earned in both and can be used in all modes completely negates the "grind" of making your MyGm or MyPlayer better, and thats the main reason we play these modes. To take a team (association) or player( MYplayer) and over time build them up to be good. Takes a lot of fun out of the modes.

I wonder if the online franchise will work like this?

Let me preface this by saying that I hate VC. I wish 2K would get rid of it, but I understand that isn't going to happen. I hate it in MyCareer and I hate it in this. Nothing is dumber to me than looking at the contracts of players around the league and seeing 4 years 50 million dollars or something like that for guys on their player cards and then 600 VC or some stupid **** like that on your player's card. That doesn't even touch the fact that you can't even wear accessories for your player without having to use VC to purchase the gear which is stupid since we know guys aren't paying for that **** in the actual NBA. LeBron wears a double wide NBA headband that you couldn't buy if you tried and he wears different ones each game. I promise you he isn't rolling to the NBA store in NYC before every game or hitting up the online shop to buy them. This stupid VC decision has also caused it where your player's accessory colors don't change like they're supposed to with the rest of the team because they've separated things where you're buying a specific white or black item that has no team color designation when it should.

Having said all that, this bolded complaint makes no sense. If you earn VC in another mode then don't spend it in your MyGM. There's nothing forcing you to buy anything ahead of schedule with that coin.

So what's the solution? Are we supposed to use pen and paper to track the VC we've earned in each mode and then keep a ledger of all activity for each mode? I'm an accountant in real life, and thats the LAST thing I would want to be in a video game.

I guess I'll have to keep up with VC that I accumulate from each mode myself.

Honestly I don't know. Why not go for that. People are ready to burn down the offices of 2K because they don't have 30 team association control primarily because it was a workaround to a problem in the game. Writing down the VC you've earned in MyGM just so you know what you had shouldn't be too big of an issue. It's a workaround to the problem.

This isn't a shot at you, but what a f***** joke. In 2013, on eighth gen consoles, we will actually need pen and paper to have a realistic association experience. Sit back and let that sink in folks. Terrible.

SMH, people are getting away from the real problem with this mode - that you can accumulate points/VC to upgrade your GM instead of just naturally getting better at making decisions as the game goes on. Stop making it about VC. I can understand why they would allow such a thing in the old MyPlayer mode (even though you get better attributes automatically by playing well in FIFA's Be a Pro mode), but in a GM/owner mode it makes no sense.

If 2K wants to provide things for purchase that gives boost to MyGM or MyP fine. However the game shouldn't be built around this ridiculous model. Sim should be the overall theme. Getting points or coinage to spend on random attributes couldn't be any farther from sim. They are turning what could be such a revolutionary mode into a joke with decision that would seem like it would be simple.

Again they don't have to isolate everybody. MyP or MyGM should make me feel like an actual player or GM. Learning and getting better in a way that's natural.

I'm indifferent to this entire thing.

One thing is "bothering" me though. If this can be played offline, and you disconnect from the internet, is it still going to use VC or some other form of currency? And if you do disconnect from the internet, do you still keep the amount you had or are you given a fresh amount of currency to start with?

It seems to me that this problem theoretically could be solved by simply playing offline....which is what people wanted....right?

I kind of forgot how that'd work. Doesn't signing offline just change virtual currency to skill points? Which in turn means you'd still have to "progress" as a GM by using skill points to upgrade? I felt being offline just disqualified someone from buying material products like new suits... which is another problem altogether.

I thought NFL 2K5 had it right, yet they made it seem so simple. Have a really cool mode where people can buy cool things (The Crib) but have it completely separate from the simulation aspect of their game. There was no RPG-ing, no leveling up, no signing players to 2 year, 800 virtual currency deals.

All game modes in 2K5 strived for realism. Only, for those who were interested, there was a "Crib" where points could be separately accumulated by performing in-game tasks (ex: 200 yards receiving by a single player). No one was forced to use the Crib. No one had to care about completing random tasks. It was pretty much a bonus mode, there for the taking. That would in contrast to NBA 2K's recent forced implementation into their previously simulation modes.

Yea this could work out, I completely forgot about this. Just play offline, it converts to skill points, then you won't have to worry about keeping track of your VC in each mode(which wasn't gonna happen for me).

Why do did big companies have to miss the whole point of FREE to play and decide to screw everyone over just to make a quick buck. We've already seen that the game has been rebalanced to give you less VC than the amount of skill points you used to get. More waiting and grinding for those who don't want to spend more money for virtual coins in a game they bought for full price that comes out every single year.

Except this doesn't really screw anyone over. Most NBA teams don't pay luxury tax. The game is perfectly playable without it-- but gives that bit of boost if you want to invest some VC (which you get just for playing the game).

I wouldn't enjoy being able to pay Lux Tax without thinking about the repercussions, but I suppose the new owner personalities make things interesting (like the Lakers who will pay tax but it's Win Or Get Out).
