As you can see from this issue right now it would be complete stupidity to just shoot it down and not entertain the question and lose any female viewership the NBA has. Money is money. There is pretty much no chance you will ever see intergender basketball teams in the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL or just about any other top pro sports league in the country outside of NASCAR and the PGA tour. Answering questions about something and actually doing it are two different things. David Stern gives lip service to the people of Seattle too and we see how he feels about them.

Good points about Stern. Intergender leagues will only happen when men start wearing skinny jeans!!! Oh wait... But for real, like B Mack said, it's only lip service to appease the masses.

In terms of someone actually playing any game (exhibition, pre-season, etc.) the NHL was first to get a woman to play. Manon Rhéaume played a couple preseason games in '92 and '93.

The NFL: none, recently a woman tried to try out as a kicker , but she got injured

NBA: Ann Meyers signed a contract, but was cut

MLB: idk

How would fouls be called? Or better yet, how would the physicality of the sport change? What about blocking shots and all that? The ladies backing down on the men also sounds sexy.

I dont mind a woman coaching in the NBA but playing in the NBA shouldn't be allowed. Sorry to all the feminists out there but strengthen your own league. I'm sure there are some women that can hang in the NBA but nah still against it.

I never seen a woman outside an agile sport say like tennis or volleyball hang. Women age much faster than men when it comes to physical contsct sports. They peak in college or in the first two years of the nba.

That's why women's college basketball is so much better than the pros.

The problem is that he basically insinuated pretty directly women have no place covering sports because it's a man's place to do so. That's what has him in hot water.

There is a great special by ESPN as part of their Title IX films that delves into women covering sports and the crud that they have gone through on a daily basis - even up until recent. Those that have not watched it really should because it provides a different view of things.

Women enjoy mens sports leagues for all sorts of reasons. There are even some women gamers who play 2K. The NFL, NBA, NHL, etc all have growing fan bases that are women - look at all the new merchandise being marketed to women all the time.

2K has an interest in making their basketball game appeal to as many people as they can. That self interested greed is exactly why they should at least consider changing the half-time show.

I'm rather disappointed that Damion was so stupid in the first place but now that he has crossed into this controversial area, shouldn't 2K cover their butts just like the radio station is ...

Does 2K really want to risk the bad publicity, the pressure from retailers and the women involved in gaming?

Or should they actually take this gift opportunity, get rid of a stale halftime presentation and create a new "improved" version - one that will also allow them to be on the "right" side of the controversy and in front of everything?

Personally, I bet he will end up on Xirrus radio, just like Howard Stern and other shock jocks that go too far once too many times for their own good.

you haven't mentioned scandals. I think Konnan said this best, wherever there are men and women working together, there is always sex present. No matter where. What if a teammate got pregnant from another teammate or coach? Granted cheryl swoops dated a coach, but that would be a scandal if that happened in the nba not to mention change the locker room entirely.

given the rigourous schedule of the nba, time off for a baby birth? what owner is going to do that? people pay to see you play and you're out for a season. Not because you tore your acl, but because you're having a baby. I don't see that happening.

I think women belong in sports, I don't know why he said what he said. Some of the best journalists are women. Doris Burke and rachel nichols being the staples.

The halftime show is one of the better delivered parts of 2K. Damon sounds professional and authentic, and I always thought they did a good job adjusting what he said to the game action.

I'd rather have him than undetailed delivery by Barkley and Kenny if they're going to mail it in, and the more entertaining they try to be, the quicker it will be repetitive.

I wonder how it would sound with Ernie Johnson doing it.

And yes, the WNBA is boring. What?

I'm cool with female reporters, as long as they know their stuff and can carry themselves in a way that allows them to be taken seriously. There aren't many though, and I have to admit I enjoyed our local sideline reporter mainly because she was adorable. I'm fine with Doris Burke in game and in real life, almost because she's not really relying on her looks.

What kind of a stupid attitude is that women shouldn't be allowed to play? Sounds as stupid as not allowing players by skin color. If someone has the ability to play at the NBA level, why would you ban teams from signing them? Sexual dimorphism in humans makes it unlikely that top leagues in any sport will have female players but there's absolutely no reason to ban them.

Damon Bruce seems to make the same idiotic arguments. He seems to think that most female announcers are incompetent and no rules should be ever changed to be "less manly" by which he means that rookie hazing should include death threats and extortion of money and if you don't allow that then you've "feminized" sports. For a guy who makes his money by his speaking abilities he does seem to have a way of putting his foot in his mouth. And what makes him such an expert in sports when all he's ever done is broadcasting?
