Re: Off Topic 2013
The first few years I worked in retail I sold furniture for straight commission. My first year there we were closed on Black Friday. The next year we had a "Beat the Clock" sale where the earlier you came in the bigger discount you could get. I had already had plans to go back home for Thanksgiving and despite my bosses insistence on staying I went back home.
Side bar: The store rules were if a customer came in and requested you and you weren't there the new salesperson had to split it with you.
I ended up getting almost 15k in sales that day without even being there. The next year I sold almost 50k (48 and some change, my biggest sales day ever) and at 6% commission that was totally worth it. The following year was promoted and in management you still work the long hours, but only get the same salary.
With all of that said, I'm soooo glad to be out of retail.
