So we will have a rival named Jackson Ellis. He will play for the Suns. 2K created a twitter account for him. Probably controlled by Ronnie. Anyway Ellis tweeted the Suns will rise. I seriously hope its not scripted for the Suns to become a threat because of this character. Would post a link but I'm on my phone.

Re: NBA 2K14: Opening Scene Of Next-Gen MyCAREER
I can take away what appears to be the narrative direction, and what I liked and didn't like from what video.
Game companies release videos because they want us to praise their work. It's also fair for us to critique them.
Anyway, just my take-- but if folks spend more time on forums critiquing other posters than the game itself, I think they might be doing it wrong. ;PComment

Re: NBA 2K14: Opening Scene Of Next-Gen MyCAREER
According to this it sounds like there's plenty of chances for you to make your own decisions and seems really interactive.I kind of feel you there.
I watched a bit of the video and... I'm not a fan of a MyPlayer where my own internal dialogue is dictated to me.
Half the fun is pretending that's YOU and creating your own story-- playing against guys you connected with in Summer League, demanding a trade because Darren Collison hates you and won't give you the ball, creating your own "rivals" because they had your number the last time you matched up. Now I can put up with press conferences where the player doesn't sound like you-- because at the very least I could pick the choice that matched the persona I wanted to portray. I can also accept some actual dialogue that's scripted, preferably where I have a choice in response.
But here I'm Generic Urban Guy who has his thoughts thought out for me. It might be a better "story" in some people's view, but I can't "own" it as much.
Anyway, not horrible, but kind of corny. And I'd prefer authentic or allowing my own imagination to fill in the gaps to corny in MyPlayer.
It's kind of funny-- Shepherd in Mass Effect obviously wasn't me, but I could own the character because I made choices and because I never heard their thoughts. If we're going for the RPG angle, there's plenty you can do with scripted dialogue without taking ownership of the character away from them. Scripted internal dialogue is a no-no.
The irony here is epic.
"Nobody writes my story but me... and some writer and some voiceover actor at 2K."
"Wait... actually, I'm not writing my story at all."
MyCAREER in NBA 2K14 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is a revolutionary new experience driven by hundreds of interactive scenes, both on and off the court. From working hand-in-hand with your agent, as seen here, to dealing with people like your GM, coaching staff, and teammates, how you approach your career is entirely up to you. But before any of that, you better get ready for the Rookie Showcase, which is your first chance to show the world what you’re made of.Comment

Yeah I think so too. I just don't like the scripted internal dialogue bit. It's the one thing we really own of characters in an RPG.Comment

Does that storyline force us to create a backcourt player?
if i create a center, the rival will be center too?Comment

Re: NBA 2K14: Opening Scene Of Next-Gen MyCAREER
I just dont like the streetball feel. I cant think of the last time I played on an outdoor court. Im pretty sure not many NBA rookies-especially the potential stars- are doing it also.
I know it might be too sim, but I feel like we should maybe go thru drills and practices to see how well we run plays, then go on to the showcase. Maybe they should have 2 diff styles of play.
Im all for adding to the immersion but it needs to happen organically.Did this dude just did this?Comment

lol what makes you think it has a streetball feel? because he was shooting around on a blacktop? if your a basketball player at some point in your life you've played at a park before.I just dont like the streetball feel. Re: NBA 2K14: Opening Scene Of Next-Gen MyCAREER
Like it or not, the opening scene was very much in the theme of "White Men Can't Jump" street ball scripting where the main character is a Woody Harleson type of player - as opposed to a Hoosiers type of feel.
If the opening scene had started with the guy shooting hoops off a backboard nailed to a barn, I'd have thought: "Hoosiers" instead of "White Men Can't Jump".
I don't think anyone is saying this feels like Rutgers ... just that 2k has scripted a "MYCareer" movie that we'll be the central star in. And as of right now, only seeing the screenshot and the opening cut-scene we begin in a certain setting.Comment

Re: NBA 2K14: Opening Scene Of Next-Gen MyCAREER
The 1st scene is on an outside court, which Im pretty sure most of us dont play on anymore. Then, our only way with playing with other my players is to play in a streetball setting without NBA rules. The game is called NBA 2k, I want to pretend that Im actually in the NBA, taking advantage of their world class facilities. If I want to play on a blacktop ill go down the street and do it right damn now.
I just dont get why any outside courts have to in the game at all. NO ONE PLAYS ON THEM. At least where Im from. Its bad for your knees lol I just dont get it.
Still getting the game, but they need to know that some ppl do want a more realistic approach.Did this dude just did this?Comment

I must be real, I do not care for the early looks I've seen of MyCareer thus far (this video alongside the tidbits in the IGN review paint a pretty corny, overly done, MyCareer movie feel), but I can't agree with you on the statements you're making about playing basketball outside. Stepping out of the 2K realm for a moment, basketball is still played outside virtually everywhere. I understand this may not be the case in your city, but I assure you the street aspect of the sport is alive and well. To state that no one plays basketball outside anymore is extremely misguided. The 1st scene is on an outside court, which Im pretty sure most of us dont play on anymore. Do we know what role an outdoor court will play in MyCareer? Not yet. Should it play a role at all? It's debatable. But to make broad and sweeping statements suggesting no one plays basketball outdoors anymore is a little shortsighted.Comment

this ^^^^....where im from you play where ever you can so i can assure you that people still play ball outside. I understand what your saying about that whole blacktop thing in the game but maybe they wanna use a started from nothing type story or something idk we haven't really seen nothing and we most likely wont into Friday.I must be real, I do not care for the early looks I've seen of MyCareer thus far (this video alongside the tidbits in the IGN review paint a pretty corny, overly done, MyCareer movie feel), but I can't agree with you on the statements you're making about playing basketball outside. What's a travesty is that the Park looks really neat-- it actually looks beautifully implemented-- but you can't form Crews. Really?!I must be real, I do not care for the early looks I've seen of MyCareer thus far (this video alongside the tidbits in the IGN review paint a pretty corny, overly done, MyCareer movie feel), but I can't agree with you on the statements you're making about playing basketball outside. Not even the Blacktop 2.0 not-Crews-Crews. Why so much work on a "mind blowing" new mode-- but you can't even arrange to play as a team with your friends? My mind is blown for all the wrong reasons.Comment
