Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen Review (IGN)
Ooh. This would have been nice. And perfectly believable.
Your phone buzzes. You pull it out and glance at the screen--
Boogie Cousins: u ain't bout dat life rook
Twitter wars would have been nice too, and you get to pick how you want to respond-- clever and snarky and win fan support at the cost of team chemistry, be diplomatic and gain teammate trust, or ignore it all together.
With the way it is now, I won't be able to help but hear the Charlie Brown "wah wah wah" noise in my head when talking to mute teammates.Last edited by Sundown; 11-12-2013, 02:30 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen Review (IGN)
Basically it's a lose-lose for 2K on how to do this or anything really for that matter. I'm with you that going that route would have been cool but it would have gotten **** on for getting real player voices for interviews, but not for the cut scenes in MyCareer and going with just phone messages and texts instead. They did the text that they're doing right now and it's catching flak because it sucks that he's not actually talking. If they used a generic voice to go along with what they have now, it'd be catching hell for not being the real voice or all the players sounding the same or something else. We know how this movie will end either way they go. People **** all over the social media addition last year because it wasn't the info that they specifically wanted to hear when they wanted to hear it and they continued to **** on it further. It is what it is.Ooh. This would have been nice. And perfectly believable.

They've said positive things in the past and in other threads. Just because you might not have seen it doesn't mean they haven't.
They're thoughtful in their criticisms and don't need to rehash everything they like about the game just to offer a critique.
I think we're all better off talking more about the game than each others' posting habits (myself included).Comment

I think they would catch less flack with well implemented text interactions than with mute players that don't move their mouths. The latter is just way jarring. And I think people understand how unlikely it'd be to have all 500 players in the league record lines for a story mode and that taking snippets of dialogue from real post-game interviews is not at all the same thing.Basically it's a lose-lose for 2K on how to do this or anything really for that matter. I can understand the appeal of actually seeing your player interact with real life players though-- so maybe they should have gone the way of non-verbal interactions-- Cousins "accidentally" bumping into you hard on the way to the locker room, other stars rubbing your head after a great game as a rookie, that sort of thing, followed by a text interaction later.
Eh. You can't make everyone happy-- but you can make design decisions that don't look ridiculous to nearly everyone.
Make an aesthetic and narrative decision that's as immersive, believable, and enjoyable as possible. Ignore the rest. If people are hating on social media for its own sake, tough on them. It's part of the NBA culture today.
For the record, I'll tolerate the mute players whose mouths don't even move. It just looks extremely silly. I'd almost prefer your character didn't talk either in those situations.Last edited by Sundown; 11-12-2013, 02:50 PM.Comment

Maybe I am crazy, game looks pretty amazing to me. Definitely one of the first I am gonna play. I didn't play 2k13 or 14 though, spent a lot of time with 2k12."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen Review (IGN)
Who is expecting real life? NO ONE.
Pointing out certain dislikes does not equal expecting or demanding perfection.
I mean, should we assume you're a fanboy and think the game is perfect just because we haven't seen you offer any critiques? No. Then why should you assume anyone who offers a critique is "hating"?
People post critiques because they want the game to get better in the future. That's how it works. If you don't want to read that and assume every critique is "hating", you might want to avoid internet game forums all together.Comment
