Hi,

First of let me say two things: I don't own a PS4 yet but I've seen something on a stream that really pissed me off. Second, I posted this on another thread but I feel this specific VC-MyGM discussion deserves its own thread.

A friend sent me a great stream with a really kind person playing the game (The link to the stream is: http://www.twitch.tv/jasetheface).

Here's the problem:

Upon starting MyGM mode one of the first things a user wants to do is modify the team's rotation. What what happens in 2K14? This.



Yes, you need to buy an "upgrade", which costs VC, in order to change your team's minutes. Change your rotation! The most basic of things.

Even if that's the first upgrade you actually get to "buy", it's a sign of how the mode itself works. I feel it is beyond unnecessary to ruin a great mode with all these Free to Play coinage stuff.

I'd like to know how many people here in OS want either VC in or out of MyGM mode. I personally consider Franchise modes something "pure", something not to mess with considering how many Sim heads love to play it.

I agree. All GM's have the basic abilities to do that. They don't have to pay their owner to change the rotation.

VC is an annoying feature but I think the overall positives we will get out of this game will outweigh the negatives.

Isn't it the coach who sets the rotations? Therefor this is right in line with what 2K wants MyGm mode to be. Being able to unlock the option later is reasonable.

Imagine how good this mode will be next year when they've gotten back feedback from us players.

I think what this is meant to do is show that the GM, at least initially, doesn't have any coaching input. You've got to "work your way up" in order to get that type of clout in the organization to be able to tell your coach how many minutes he should play his players. Nothing wrong with that. However, it comes off as 2k taking away control from the user since VC is needed.

Absolutely not a big deal. You get 5,000 VC immediately for making your MyPlayer/GM. This upgrade costs... 500 VC. Close to the cost of a single game played. Solution: Spend 500 VC, get upgrade, bam. Was the first thing I did in MyGM mode after the initial conversation with my owner. Very much a non-issue.

this upgrade costs 500vc (almost nothing), and once you buy it you can use it for any new franchise you start....not worth bitching about.

if its only 500 vc there is absolutely no reason to complain about it.. sure its dumb to have to buy but its not like its thousands...its 1 game played

Yes, 500VC is not that much. But it looks like that this is just the beginning, I mean where does it end, when you even have to spend VC on something like adjusting your rotation?

Also, when you play several modes at the same time, VC is spent faster than it's earned. Remember how some t-shirts for your MyPlayer cost thousands of VC! And you also have to spend VC on better stats, new animations etc. Or think of MyTeam! I don't want to be forced to set my priorities on a certain mode, let alone pay for VC... Like 60-70 bucks aren't enough for a sports game you play not more than 1 year.

Does the VC you earn with the MyNBA2k14 app apply to PS4? Or is it limited to current-gen?

I think people are wrong that it's a money grab and they hope you just buy VC.

Game designers often have an idea, rightly or wrongly, that for a game to have replay value it needs to have progression.. the carrots a game can dangle in front of you for playing it longer and longer, are very powerful. MyCareer is by far the most popular mode, I think they said like 70% of games played are MyCareer. You want to keep these people playing. For MyGM it's just more progression. Without it, your progression is just.. win another title.. as a game mechanic, that gets old.

It's not quite the same game if they just give you everything right away.. some people like that 'god mode'/construction-kit style, but you can make a lot of arguments for that being a bad design in other games, so why do people expect it to be in sports games? The fact that people love to customize SO much, is even more reason to make that customization be somewhat gated and earned. You want people to play your game, continuously, so make them have to work to get to the stuff they want to do.

I get where they're coming from with this stuff, even if I think it's overboard to tie a VC price to almost everything.

If you want realism, locking a GM out of setting rotations is about as real as it gets. I like it. Suck it up...at least you have the ability to earn it (at least I think we do?).

If you want to coach, go play season mode.

Does the VC you earn with the MyNBA2k14 app apply to PS4? Or is it limited to current-gen?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe they have a different app for next gen

Seriously, keep realism out of the discussion when VC are involved
