Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen First Impressions

I love the game so far, I own both the current-gen and next-gen versions, and next-gen is simply above and beyond anything else we've gotten.

I even tried playing MyCareer for the first time ever. How do you simulate games btw? I don't see any option

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen First Impressions

        I haven't played 2k bball since 2k11, with a new ps4 I figured Id give it a shot.

It looks good, plays well however I will say this game as a whole is a tad overrated... The amount of love this game gets is a bit too much, theres some really cheap feeling things behind the scenes, things like player accessories, blueprints for season/gm modes just lack of options overall I dunno doesn't float my boat as a whole. Ive been spoiled with MLB The Show I guess and expect too much.

Overall though solid game 8/10. Just seems like theres a lot of over reaction.

i am pleased so far with the gameplay - my biggest gripe here is already listed above:
Saving everything and anything to the 2K servers which includes your own edited rosters and any draft class you create -

This portion is a horrible mistake by 2K. I am hoping they patch this if possible to allow you to save rosters etc locally - because this is a cumbersome mess similar to the menu navigation. I cannot stress enough how horrible it is to have to rely on 2K servers for my roster.
          Truly Blessed -

Still have sim issue where if you sim the remaining of the game stats aren't based on 12 minute quarters like they should be. Anyone notice that?

Man, I've been picking up 2K every year on release since 2K10, until this year. Rented CG 2K14 on PS3, and after playing through half an association season and my take aways were:
-It was weird adapting to the L2 Button modifying passes instead of switching the dribble stick to the shot stick, but it was something to adapt to and was fun to use after.
-There is something seriously wrong with the offensive rebounding in this game. I had too many instances of boxing out an opposing point guard with a PF (Derrick Favors, averaging 10.6 a game, top 10) only to have them warp through me and grab an offensive rebound. And it wasn't just the computer getting them, my teammates would grab offensive rebounds that they wouldn't get close to grabbing in real life. It was a minor problem in 2K13 that got WORSE in 14. It is like the regression of the passing system from 2K11 to 12. Speaking of...
-The trick passing system would be cool, if the passing system wasn't broken.
-Other minor gripes with things that mainly pertain to the portrayal of the Utah Jazz (My favorite team), such as the roster, player numbers, and court and area details. For example, the
Jazz Bear and LHM court naming details are both missing (which doesn't make sense to me, because they were both in the PS2 version of 2K11). I don't see why things in a PS2 version are not in the PS3 version.

So, i was disappointed with 2K14 CG, disappointed in the direction gameplay-wise that 2K has been going for the last 3 years.

Then I saw the NG trailers.... And I was blown away! It looked soooooooooo good, hands down the best looking Next-Gen game out there. And the in-game and post-game interviews? Woooooooooo!! I was excited to get my hands on the game, but that nagging worry of gameplay was still there. I had hope that it would be improved.
Got my hands on it, and 3 games in.... It's the same gameplay, I noticed no difference between this and CG, which killed it for me. And those team details? Even worse. Still missing area details, and somehow the art designers forgot between the CG and NG that Derrick Favors has a big tattoo on his left arm (again, you shouldn't be LOSING things between generations, especially not graphical detail.)
And what happened to the "Live Rosters" that were supposed to update after every game? Was that just lip service like they have given in that regard for the last 2 years? 12 games in, and the Jazz are a mess (not ratings wise, they are bad in real life too) with player personal. Burke is in, Jefferson isn't starting, and where is Ian Clark? Tinsley is still on the team, even though he got cut almost a week ago IRL.

2K14 NG is still a fun game, and if you liked it on CG you'll love it on NG, but I've just come to expect more from the series. I want improvement from a series that I love. I hope with the upcoming competition that 2K will step it up

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen First Impressions

From what I've seen in MyPlayer:

Older versions all had the 'simulate to key games' option, but the PS4 version has no option to simulate any games. In other words.. I've played around 35 games and it seems draining to have to play all 82 games.. every season. Why was there no simulate option in the PS4 version?

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen First Impressions

Overrated to the MAX. The game plays great when on the court. The CPU Is passing the ball and the PG isn't trying to rush into the paint constantly.

Ppl are overhyping the graphics. Yes they look great but damn calm yourselves they are not that mind blowing while playing. Even my bro who doesn't play basket ball games said it looked like CG. I looked at him like he was stupid but realized he was looking at a close up shot of a player that didn't get their face scanned. There are a lot of those faces in the game like Anderson Varejao and Chris Paul have to be the worst. It also doesn't help that he was watching me play a modded PC version while he was playing the PS4 version. When the camera is in broadcast view the game looks OK, but the moment you look at replays or use close camera views the game looks great. I think the courts on my PC look better though.

I'm also hate how a lot of problems from last gen are still in the game. I simmed MyGm to January and all the teams have decent amount of pissed off players because of roles. We can't even turn roles off and that wasn't it...I could go on forever about the problems.

Re: NBA 2K14 Next-Gen First Impressions

Seen a few complaints about not being able to sim in my player mode. I don't believe in simming and will be okay if this doesn't change. When My Player was introduced in 2k10 we didn't have this options either. True you had to play 2 full seasons until your player was semi good but hey that's what those shiny VC coins are for. If you are that inpatient then just spend those dollars and upgrade what you want.

Few questions I saw in here.

Can you be traded in draft? NO, you still play rookie showcase and still get drafted based on performance. I had to start few due to not making my mind up good and best I got was first round 4th pick.

Can jerseys be modified before game. NO

Agree with all the Pros this is the best 2k NBA game out as of of yet.

Biggest CON is once again servers. My player park mode is at this point unplayable. Way to man dropped games and to many glitches during games. Out of 10 games only 2 have played from start to finish. That's a nice whopping 20%.....

All in all I love the game too hope they FIX THE SERVERS !!!

It seems that many people we're blow away by just how good this game looks but have quickly become frustrated by its glaring issues & omissions. I cancelled my preorder over here in the UK & will be sticking with NBA 2K14 Current Gen. At least that game lets me play how I want to (Multiplayer Association). Those hoping for the missing Features/Modes to be patched in, forget it. The best you can hope is that 2K have observed these forums & will correct things for next years game.

next gen is WAY better as far as game play goes when comparing to next gen. Anybody who thinks its the same game is kidding themselves. I own both and have put in enough time with both games to notice that there is a huge difference. I currently have a buddy staying with me and HATED current gen nba 2k. And when I say hated I mean hated he could barely make through a game. Not with next gen he loves this **** and it has little to do with the graphics.

Now, everything is expected from what I'm reading, but one thing I was hoping would get way better as a mode is MyGm and it seems it's broken as before. Same frustrating stupid trade logics by AI and morale glitch. Was it worth to put so much of new stuff into this mode when main complaints and woes of Association players are still there? Please 2k, do answer to this.

I will tell you what is most important thing about any association mode - it's real deep competition you can get from AI teams. And it's still not here because of what we reading? But we can manage the price for hot dogs? Are you guys at 2k running away from solving real problems with this mode?
