Re: Madden NFL 25 Next-Gen First Impressions
I just don't understand why details totally disappear in lower lighting and the game takes on such a flat and 2 dimensional look, with regards to Madden. Not just PS4 Madden, but all of them. PS4/ Next gen especially."You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Next-Gen First Impressions
I'll put a more detailed impression in the stickied impressions thread, but as far as first impressions go, I'd have to say that Madden has some serious issues in its art department.
The difference between how this game looks in lower lighting vs bright lighting, is so stark it's really unfathomable. Playing a game outdoors in the afternoon on a sunny day and then playing in a dome is almost comical. In lower lighting the game loses so much detail to the point that the player models look very 2 dimensional.
Textures are lost. Subtle shading is lost. Color gradations are lost. I want to say that polygons are lost even. It looks that bad when it isn't a bright sunny day.
I've never seen this happen on any other game, which is why I say that they have serious issues in their art department. As a for instance, Battlefield 4 looks no less impressive whether you are outdoors or inside a dark dingy building. The level of detail does not change and no subtleties are missing what so ever.
The pop in of textures and detail are also egregious, but that isn't a function of the art team, I don't believe.
It's very bizarre.
IMO Madden 13 was a huge downgrade in lighting from Madden 12. That is where te bad lighting all started. I was sad they announced the change with Madden 13, because I remember Madden 12 looked better then NCAA 12 when it got the lighting upgrade that year.
Madden 12 was a pretty fantastic looking game as far as art work. The only huge downside was the blotchy grass, the players, helmets, and lighting were pretty sweet for the Xbox 360Last edited by BigDaddyHolmes; 11-18-2013, 05:07 PM.Comment

You're on point with this. I played a game in the superdome and it looked awful. I think the lighting in the indoor games is awful.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Next-Gen First Impressions
This is one thing I really hope they address going forward. some stadiums/weather/time of day/domes makes a drastic difference in the graphics. I like that they try to make the atmosphere and lighting unique but it would be nice if all these scenarios looked great in their own right.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 25 Next-Gen First Impressions
I think it's fair to say EA took a very "safe" route with next-gen. Although promoting the infamous RGIII scramble, which is prominently showcased on featured Madden 25 commercials now is pure FALSE advertisement. Things they did tune seem to have all been achievable last gen. Even with the higher textures Madden still looks like a PS3 game akin to NBA Live.
The Player models are really bad and the animation is just an eye sore. The thing that irks me the most is the QB scramble, they've taken the most exciting play in football, (outside of a pick six) and made it look horrible. WHY DOES EVER QB DO THAT STUPID RUNNING ANIMATION WHEN SCRAMBLING? Can this please be addressed?
The commentary is so bad its dreadful. I started a CFM and traded away Josh Freeman before the start of the season. Sure enough once the season started, all Nantz kept talking about was how the Bucs needs Freeman to show them this year he is the leader. Even when we lost our first game week 1, he started a ramble the very next week about how the Bucs didn't play well but still got the win. Its no longer a question of technical limits - more so the desire to actually pay attention to detail. Unfortunately I think that is something Tiburon simply doesn't care about.
The line play and defense overall is well improved and for that I tip my hat to Tiburon. Nothing like staring down a receiver only to see a DB realistically jump the route or make a great break on the ball. It's a thing of beauty and it forces me to take what the defense is giving me. It also keeps me engaged in a chest match with the "often" over-powered CPU. But since sliders have been fixed this year, this by far IS the best playing Madden in 9 years. But is that even saying much at this point?
That said, living worlds is a complete joke. The crowd swells are random, but when they do trigger it feels good. Problem is, there is no 3rd down emotion or sense of urgency. Nothing, it's just dead. There is much that could be added from real-time presentation. Don't get me started on the sidelines crap, that's just bad.
Over-all score: 6/10Comment
