This Is Birdland - A Baltimore Orioles Dynasty(OOTP14)

September 28, 2011, also known as Game 162, was the day everything changed for the Baltimore Orioles. After shocking the Boston Red Soxs that night, the Orioles used that momentum in 2012 and shocked the entire baseball world by winning 93 games and making the playoffs for the first time since 1997.

Now in 2013, the Orioles will look to take that momentum even further and break into the elite of the MLB and to bring back the World Series trophy to Birdland.

(Some notes: This is my first dynasty anywhere so any feedback would be appreciated. This will be run on Out of the Park Baseball 14, and I will managed every game. I haven't changed any of the settings apart from the trading, I have it set to hard and favors prospects. I will also try to make realistic trades as possible.)

The Roster remain largely the same from the 2012 campaign. It will be interesting to see if Brian Roberts and Nolan Reimold can stay healthy for the entire season, as well as what we can do with an entire season of 2012 key contributors Manny Machado, Miguel Gonzalez, Nate McLouth, and Chris Tillman. Rule 5 pick T.J McFarland will have to remain on the roster all season, or else be sent back to Cleveland.

Orioles Cruise to Opening Day Victory, Beat Tampa 16-3

The Baltimore Orioles looked rested and ready for the 2013 season after dominating the Tampa Bay Rays on Opening Day. The Orioles scored 5 runs off of David Price in the 1st inning and never looked back as they went on to win the game 16-3. Nate McLouth would hit the first home run of the season in the 6th inning to go along the his 3 RBIs. Brian Roberts and Chris Davis would also chip in 3 RBIs, while Jason Hammel would go 6 innings with 7 strikeouts and Brian Matusz got the first save of his career after pitching 3 innings.

Speculation will be rampant in Tampa as Price would leave the game after only 2/3 of an inning, one has to wonder if there is an injury coming into the game. Although the Rays have the pitching depth, losing Price would be a huge blow to the team. The lone bright spot for the Rays was Ben Zobrist who went 2-3 with a double and and home run.

                    Chen Dominate as O's Win

Wei-Yin Chen was the only constant and one would say the anchor of the Orioles rotation last year and looked in mid-season form as he got the win in the Orioles 7-3 victory. Chen would pitch 8 innings while only giving up 2 runs, both unearned, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. The 2 runs would come off of 2 rare errors from J.J Hardy that allowed Ryan Roberts and James Loney to score. However, the O's would respond with home runs from Adam Jones and Manny Machado.

The Rays attempted to mount a comeback, leading off the 9th with a home run by Roberts, but it was too little too late. Ben Zobrist would go 2-3 for the second straight night and Sean Rodriguez hit 2 doubles. Matt Moore last much longer then David Price, who it appears does not have an injury, going 6 2/3 innings while striking out 5, but he also had 5 walks.

The Orioles will look to sweep the Rays tomorrow, Miguel Gonzalez will take the hill and oppose Alex Cobb.

Late Inning Heroics Need to Complete Sweep

Manny Machado continues to be a thorn in the side of the Tampa Bay Rays. After the pump fake last year he upped it this year after he hit a 2 run single to take the lead in the 9th to take the lead for the Orioles. Jim Johnson came in and closed out the bottom half of the inning for his first save of the season as the Orioles completed the sweep. Nate McLouth would get the scoring started by hitting a 2 run homer in the 4th. Miguel Gonzalez ended up with a no decision after pitching 7 innings and giving up 2 runs.

For Tampa Bay Alex Cobb would get the loss after going 8 2/3 inning of 4 run ball while striking out 8. It was good of Cobb to go deep into the ball game, especially after the Rays used up a lot of their bullpen in the last 2 games. Ben Zobrist would continue his hot streak by going 1-3 with a home run, which came right after Matt Joyce hit a home run, going back-to-back. Also star prospect Wil Myers would make his major league debut by pinch running for Evan Longoria in the 8th inning.

                        Orioles sign Former All-Star Sizemore

The Orioles have completed a deal that will bring former 3x All-Star Grady Sizemore to Baltimore. The deal is reported to be a minor league deal and Sizemore will report to Triple A Norfolk. Sizemore has also collected 2 Gold Gloves and a Silver Sugger award in his career, he hasn't played since the 2011 season after injuries. The Orioles hope he can be a contributor in the future.

The Orioles also came to an agreement on a minor league deal with pitcher Trevor Bell. Bell last appeared in 2011 for the Dodgers, pitching in 19 games with a 3.41 ERA. He will also report to Norfolk.

Pretty solid start to the season, and nice acquisition of Sizemore.

Arrieta Stumbles, Bullpen Recover to get Home Opener Win

The Orioles continued their winning ways today with victory in their home opener against the Twins, although it did come with its fair share of drama. Jake Arrieta got off to a rocky start, giving up 2 runs in the first inning, and couldn't recover. He surrendered a total of 7 runs before exiting after the 4th inning. The Orioles bats didn't far too much better, only getting 1 run through the first 4 innings before erupting for 8 in the 5th and 6th capped off by a 2-run double by Chris Davis. T.J McFarland earned his first major league victory after pitching 3 innings of relief, only giving up 1 run.
