Came in solely to agree with Goodydog, Forza Horizon is an anomaly in the series being the only arcade racer they have made. The fact that it gets continuously mentioned in this review baffles me and makes me really wonder how much better this review could of been without accounting for a game that has no impact or relevance to Forza 5.Please take note that most of what I say and post is made in satire.

yeah, it reads as if the reviewer hasn't played a previous forza game. There are also quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes making it seem ESL.
The constant comparisons to horizon are completely off base. Strange read.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

I thought Horizon was considered a disappointment and was the weakest in the series by the majority. I'd like to see a sequel though only with more cars and a much larger map.Comment

Nope, I have only played every Forza game that has been released. As for the grammar and spelling mistakes, that's why we have an editor. As a writer, it is sometimes hard to find mistakes, even when you look over your work multiple times.
The constant comparison to Horizon is because that game shows how you can take the Forza gameplay, add some atmosphere and life, and make a great game. Forza 5 completely lacks the latter. Sorry if I don't praise every single Forza Motorsport game that releases.Comment

I wish you hadn't taken offense to the other post, because I just don't think you explained your position thoroughly enough if you had really played all the other games. The main line Forza games and Horizon were completely different so it was just a little odd. I'd like to see Forza do a lot more with the career mode (so essentially we agree) but it should never go anywhere near Horizon in my opinion. In my opinion, a very good and accurate review overall and you covered the bases.Nope, I have only played every Forza game that has been released. "Lifeless is the best word to describe everything surrounding Forza 5. The gameplay is stays the same, but it lacks the overall personality of previous iterations, especially Forza Horizon; and it gets rather tedious after hours of playing."
This is the "crux" of the issue that I have with the review/reviewer. My question is "lifeless compared to what?" ...I don't want to seem disingenuous, so I'll get straight to my point: I hope that you are not impyling that GT 5 possesses more "life" than Forza 5, because if that is the case, you would be displaying "bias" at best and incompetence at the worst. I say this because between the two major console sims (meaning GT vs Forza, which would be the appropriate genre for comparison), arguably the Forza series has displayed more "life;" so my question is, "what is this thrilling, exhilarating sim-style racer that exudes so much life?"
To be critical is fair as long as it is logical/rational criticism. I am just trying to understand the "rationale" behind the criticism; so again, "lifeless" compared to what?Comment

It's lifeless compared to past games in the series, which is in the paragraph you quoted. It says "it lacks the overall personality of previous iterations." That is based off my time with the game, from the soundtrack to the way the career mode is setup."Lifeless is the best word to describe everything surrounding Forza 5. The gameplay is stays the same, but it lacks the overall personality of previous iterations, especially Forza Horizon; and it gets rather tedious after hours of playing."

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Review (XBox One)
This is a question from someone who hasn't played Forza 5, nor even owns an XBox One; but is is possible to filter the Drivatars such that you only race against trusted friends of comparable driving skill? I would think that if it is possible to do so, it would alleviate most of the reviewers complaints about them, provided that after the game has sampled enough data, the Drivatars are reasonably reflective of their driving behaviors? Has anyone noticed that Drivatar behavior improves over time?
I hate to admit this, but as small-minded as this sounds, I'm sitting out an XBox One purchase because it's not compatible with my current Fanatec based racing cockpit. I'm mostly in to racing and golf games and the One is the only console that has an answer to both needs (although PowerStar Golf is more arcadish than what I want to play long term) at present.
I'm holding out small hope that an adapter solution will come out for the current Fanatec hardware, but it will take a huge concession that I don't think Microsoft is anywhere near ready to make at this point. If DriveClub releases for the PS4 next year, and current-gen Fanatec support is there, there's no doubt what will be my first next-gen platform step will be!Last edited by OnlookerDelay; 12-08-2013, 07:14 AM.Duke Football? Okay, I think I understand...the omissions are glaring, but to say that the game is lifeless seems extreme.Comment

I agree.
And like everyone else saying how he tried to compare this to Horizon I agree as well. Although I feel he should of stated something like, "While this Forza goes back to sim, with the addition to driveatar's you will see how your friends drive, and sometimes they don't drive very sim." Although I do have one friend who basically always takes the inside route and runs into me to keep his line, or T-Bones me, it actually makes that game so much fun that any of the previous games.
I rather have that and no so perfect racers than AI that does perfect lines and such all the time. While there is only 14 tracks and 1/4 less cars than before (or however amount it is) it is not that big of a deal for me since every race is so unpredictable with the driveatar's. Every racing game doesn't have that many tracks. Yes the load times are terrible, at least I can snap or just watch TV, until the race starts.
Also have a friend who hates racing games. Mostly cause he is terrible, but some friends and I convinced him to get it, and it is now one of his favorite games on the Xbox One. Mostly cause of how unpredictable the driveatar's are.Comment

Although I would love to know what he means by "we expected a little more." I know mean tracks and cars, but curious what features and such. Are you saying like your driving class license? Other than that really don't know what you me. While it is your review I think most of us were taken back by the lowest score for Forza that we seen.Comment

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Review (XBox One)
Horizon uses the Forza branding but is not part of the main Forza series. It did some things better than the Forza series but also lacked a lot of the hard core stuff the die hard Forza fans love.
Horizon aside, Forza has always been a sterile, lifeless series. Five is no better or worse in terms of personality. Forza has always felt like part racing game part science project. It has always been a set of boring, inanimate blocks that got its real personality, not from the developers, but from the community.
Those community features feel a little more absent or incomplete in Forza 5. The ability to host custom, public rooms, the ability to shop designs and tunes in the store...even the rivals doesn't feel as well rounded as in the past and I think that makes the rest of the games dullness more apparent. I think it is a mistake to say that five isn't lock step with every other boring iteration of the game.
It is a disappointment and probably the last Forza, aside from Horizon 2, that I purchase. The developers choose to go down the exact same path as last gen only adding more pixels and pay walls. They harnessed the 'cloud' for drivatars but offer no option for private leagues, clubs or online competitions/ladders.
If 'next gen' is about little more than upping the pixel count and attaching micro-payments to everything then count me out.Last edited by lnin0; 12-11-2013, 06:53 PM.Comment

Re: Forza Motorsport 5 Review (XBox One)
I bought F5 and I usually don't usually buy racing games. My question is how can I have fun playing Forza 5? I never see any accidents, the tracks don't change lighting or weather, and if you're in first place you have nothing but a lifeless racetrack to look at.
I'm not trolling. I bought the game and I'm trying to get into it. I think I just went into it with the wrong expectations.Comment
