List the wrestlers who were "your guys"...

It's simple, let's list the wrestlers that were "our guys". I don't mean guys you sort of liked. I mean guys that were your favorites. Guys that you'd hang posters in your room, buy their action figure, order pay per views to see, and get mad when they got beaten or screwed over.

My childhood (the 80's), it was Hulk Hogan. Obviously. I hated Sgt Slaughter, I hated the Ultimate Warrior, I didn't like Macho Man or Andre. All because they opposed Hogan.

Right before my teen years (early 90's), it was the show stopper, the main event, the icon, the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels. At that time he was my absolute favorite, and I remember crying when they played up the storyline that he was going to retire due to concussions.

Teenage years (mid-to-late 90's), I was all about Stonecold Steve Austin! Lord I hated McMahon. Oh man I hated the Rock! I had Austin t-shirts. I had posters. I had a freaking knee brace!

My twenties until now (I'm 30 now), there hasn't been quite the magic of superstars like those three I mentioned. However, I was real into Kurt Angle. When he left for TNA I still followed, but not as much. I didn't really have another guy except for the pipe-bomb dropping CM Punk. Now that he is over the pipe-bombs and not holding the title for a ridiculous amount of time (and a face), he isn't as cutting edge.

I also think it would be interesting to talk about big names that others will pick as their guys, yet we don't pick them. Here's some that I'm sure others will have in their top list.

Ultimate Warrior - always hated him. I think he was very overrated and a terrible business guy.

Undertaker - I like Taker, just never got into him like many others.

The Rock - I always hated the Rock. I support him in certain things he does, like Walking Tall, Rundown and The Hero. I hate when he comes back, I hated when he beat Cena.

John Cena - I hated him about as much as the Rock when Cena first became WWE Champion. Now, I respect the hell out of him. He doesn't bother me anywhere near how he used to.

Bret Hart - I respect the Hitman. Only disliked him during his Canada vs USA thing with Stonecold.

Goldberg - I couldn't stand Goldberg. I felt like you couldn't like Austin and Goldberg. I always rooted for him to lose.

Ric Flair - I like Ric Flair. He is an excellent wrestling guy, although I feel a lot of his stuff he completely ripped off of Buddy Rogers (my grandfather was good friends with Buddy). I like Ric, he just never was my guy.

Sting - I liked Sting a lot. Again, he just wasn't my main guy. I rooted for him. And always wanted to see the blonde Sting return.

    Sorry I typed so much.

    How about you all?

Re: List the wrestlers who were "your guys"...

Even as a kid I always liked heels so my guys have always been heels. I really only watched wrestling in the 80's and 90's. Wrestling now is, how do I say it, uhh...... rather putrid.

    During the 80's

Roddy Piper circa 1985 around WM1. Piper's Pit was a great show with him trashing on guys like Hogan, JYD and Snuka. His mic skills were easily the best in wrestling at that time. He turned face and was ruined. He lost his bite and became too much of a court jester.

Randy Savage when he first hit the WWF. Charisma was just oozing from this guy and was the first legit heel to be considered a serious threat to Hogan. I remember going to a house show in Toronto where he faced Hogan for the title just after he Elizabeth became his manager so he was in the WWF maybe 6 months and the crowd pop was nearly as big as Hogan's. His face turn after WM3 wasn't too bad as he pretty much stayed the same so I would still cheer for him.

The Iron Shiek- Loved him, the guy oozed hate from the audience and during house shows when he did the Iran #1 schtick, the crowd wanted to kill him but man did he get everyone into it.

Rick Rude-great heel, great mic skills and him partnered with Heenan was a memorable duo. And never turned face, the Iron Shiek never did either but it was virtually impossible for him to do so.

Honky Tonk Man- I appreciated how well he could garner heel heat every single time he was in the ring. He was one of the all time greatest heels because EVERYONE hated him except me, I thought he was great because everyone else didn't. Also had great mic skills.

This stroll down memory lane reminds me of how much I miss those monthly house shows we used to get back then.

    During the 90's

The Corporate Rock- his mic work was inventive and original and didn't rely on catchphrases every interview like he does now which makes him a caricature.

Heel Stone Cold- also great inventive mic skills without not relying on catchphrases and his feud with Bret Hart was classic. I remember him attacking the ambulance that was carrying Bret Hart to the hospital during a Raw show. Classic stuff.

HBK during the screw job and original DX period in the late 90's. Had great material when making fun of Canada and Bret Hart and was one half of the greatest feud of all time.

Kane was, and always will be, "my guy". I followed wrestling even since I was a young kid, but I never really followed anyone specifically. Overall, I just liked wrestling. Kane was the first guy that I remember ever wanting everything of his, wanting to grow up and be a wrestler and be like him in the ring. His debut was one of the best debuts ever, IMO, but that also helps whenever you have one of the greatest managers of all-time in Paul Bearer, and one of the biggest stars ever deemed your "half brother" in the Undertaker.

Re: List the wrestlers who were "your guys"...

Sting - old school, and Crow..not so much TNA Sting
Road Warriors - Greatest Tag team of ALL TIME hands down.
Dusty Rhodes - I almost cried when he wore the yellow polka dots
The Rock - I liked him a bit in the Rocky Mavia days…I loved THE ROCK whether heel or otherwise
Bret Hart - I was disappointed with his WCW career…but dude was cool and a real worker.
RVD - Dude is the MOST exciting in ring performer I have ever seen. I wish he got a better push. His ECW persona was cooler than the WWE version.
Ron Garvin - he was just bad *** for no particular reason to me. I was pumped when he beat Flair for the strap
Jake Roberts - It was hard to tell how much was character and how much was the real guy. That is truly a talent. The dude to me answered the questions…"what if a guy like the undertaker was real…what would he be like".
Booker T - He was sort of like Rock lite….his Harlem Heat days were awesome…loved when he called Hogan the N-word
Steiner Brothers - I hated NWO Steiners…but Varsity Club Steiners were awesome

Just to be clear…I followed for these dudes and cheered for them. I am just NOT hanging a pic of a muscle bound dude in his underwear on my wall or wearing his shirt. These guys were must see TV for me.

as far as who I hated

Ric Flair - I hated him so much I almost liked him.
as a subset of Flair - The rest of the early 4 Horsemen (Arn, Ole, Tully, Dillion)
HBK - He seemed like a male porn star to me. I could never believe he could actually kick someones arse…plus he always seemed like a tag team guy. A tag team that ripped off the Rock n Roll Express.
as a subset of HBK the rest of DX
HHH - I hated him in DX or otherwise…just a turd to me. A steroid bound arse. I never understood why he was pushed pre-boning Steph.
Hogan - I actually sort of liked Hollywood Hogan. red and orange eat your vitamins Hogan was like a corny cartoon character to me even when I was like 5 years old.
Big Show - no talent…no good gimmick…just a big turd who for some unknown reason was always on.
X-Pac - both in the NWO and DX he just seemed like a hanger on type guy.
Lex Luger - could this guy make up his mind if he was a heel or a hero. Dude was just annoying. btw…Torcher Rack might be the dumbest finisher of all time.
JBL - so we were suppose to buy into him going from cowboy to mercenary to wall street business man…SERIOUSLY
John Cena - Do I really need to say anything. The rapping thing was sort of cool for 5 minutes…accept R-Truth is better at it. Same reason Hogan annoyed me Cena annoys me. No skill, cartoon character with very little in ring talent.
DDP - David Arquette…that was the moment the WCW jumped the shark…need i say more
Vince McMahon - making a monopoly of the sport…breaking a long standing gentelmens agreement about territories. Montreal Screw Job…HHH running the show.

When I was a kid in 2005, just started watching, Cena and Rey were my favorites. I had all the figures, posters, games, magazines, you name it. My first Youtube username was cenarey123.

These days I love Punk, Bryan, Cesaro, Cody Rhodes, Ziggler, all the guys you'd expect. Still have that nostalgic like of Cena and Rey. I also like heel Orton after looking back on his Legend Killer days.

I'm pretty similar to the OP. Growing up, I was a huge Hulkamaniac (and am still disappointed that my Hulkamania shirt disappeared one day, to never be found again ) Not to the point that I hated everyone that opposed Hogan, but I was a kid and didn't know it was fake at the time. I followed the face/heel lines pretty strictly.

Attitude Era, I'd say Kurt Angle and Val Venis. Still feel like Val was/is underrated.

All-time, I'd say Triple H is my guy. No ground-breaking reason - I think he's usually really good with promos (delivery rarely sounds forced/fake, and can play off crowd well to draw reactions), and can tell a great story in a variety of matches.

He gets **** on by the internet, but that is what it is. Still my guy.

I began watching wrestling during the early 2000's and saw a lot of exciting Hardy Boys vs Edge & Christian matches, for the most part on DVD's. Even after the teams kind of drifted away I still really enjoyed all four guys and cheered for them every match. The worst feud for me was the Edge and Matt feud, because I always got upset knowing one of my two favorite guys would lose lol.

At this point I'm a pretty big Punk fan, because I consider him the one of the most well rounded superstars of this generation, and one of the few guys that is able to really work promo's and matches like a real headliner should (Although he is a waste of talent as a face in my opinion.) I'm a Jericoholic too, but unfortunately due to his other commitments he's away from the WWE more than he's with them.

                Goldberg. Just plain beast mode.

                Retro surfer Sting.

Hollywood Rock. One of the best heels EVER.

Hollywood Rock was the best heel EVER...and the funniest promos EVER.

I wasn't a big Rock fan, but his hollywood heel turn was insanely well done...especially his mockery of Hulk Hogan.

Stone Cold was always my guy...man if he were to go back now I would start watching again.

Always respected the hell out of Bret Hart.

I have a love hate relationship with Undertaker...went through stages that I loved him and stages when I hated him...these days I don't care at all.

Kane was insane when he debuted...and unfortunately WWE ruined him forever. After they let his mask go they ruined one of the wrestlers with the highest potential.

Shawn Michaels...liked him for a short while in the 90's, but was never a big fan.

Sycho Sid, man just can't help to like him. He really did the psychotic intense thing well.

Kurt Angle, Triple H, Mankind and NWO are all guys that I have very fond memories off.

I'm actually busy downloading all raw, smackdown and PPV's from 97-02

As for wrestling these days, don't get me started. They need gimmicks fast, it's just a bunch of normal guys wrestling with another name. And storylines...I want to cry when I watch Punk and Cena...the glory days are gone.

Mine, always has been, and always will be 100% Shawn Michaels(I even have his Heart logo tattooed on my arm!) I remember when AWA briefly had that deal with ESPN, I would come home from school and get to watch The Rockers in action! Then they moved to WWF(E) and I got to see them on the grander stage! When Shawn superkicked Marty through the glass on The Barber Shop..BOOM! My true hardcore fandom began. I recall going to the Civic Center to wath Shawn v. Bret...and years later I remember a friend telling me(he was a few rows above me)that I was the only one cheering for HBK that night haha.

Aside from HBK, Hogan was always a fav growing up(I dont know how you can be in our age bracket and NOT have been a Hogan fan). I've always been a heel guy. Growing up my dad told me about everything(the planned finishes, choreographed matches, that they didnt really hate each other), and it made me more appreciative of the heels and the work they did. Always loved Curt Henning, Rick Martel, Honkey Tonk Man, etc.

Once the attitude era hit, my loyalty to Shawn remained, but the rest of DX just got added to it! And then the nWo came out and yup, hooked! DDP and Raven as well as Foley became personal faves of mine durring this time as well.

Today I LOVE CM Punk, Daniel Bryan as well. I can tolerate Cena, and have aways like Orton. Some of the undercard guys are actually my faves of today: Dolph, Kofi, Ryder(Broski 4-Life), Gabriel, Barrett...and of course, being 100% Irish myself...Sheamus!

I don't care how hated he is/was. He's been 'my guy' since he debuted. And when he came back, I marked like crazy. He's the only wrestler who's autograph I have, and I got it the week after he and Big Show broke the ring. They were doing a house show here in Lubbock, and me and my dad went. Well we went to go eat afterwords, and about 10 minutes later in walks Brock Lesnar. That was one of the best occurrences of my life.

Since I didn't truly start watching around 2001-02, I had never seen someone with such little regard for another life. He was easily scarier to me than Taker, Kane, anyone else at that time. He aimed to hurt people every time he walked to that ring.

                        As a kid I loved:

Hogan- Guy could never be matched in the charisma department. Even though his wrestling in america was bad, he was a much better wrestler in Japan.

Demolition- Dudes had facepaint and came out with leather, chains and masks. Need I say more?

Road Warriors- Arguably the toughest team to ever grace the squared circle.

Bret "Hitman" Hart- He could have a good match with pretty much anyone. His moves were always "excellently executed".

"The Natural" Dustin Rhodes- Dustin and Austin used to tear the house down when they feuded for the WCW Television Championship.

Sting- Much better wrestler than Hogan and carried about as much charisma. Carried WCW and kept them afloat along with Flair.

"Flyin" Brian Pillman- Brought the luchadore/cruiserweight style to America along with Jushin "Thunder" Liger.

Brad Armstrong- I just liked him because his theme music was awesome.

                        As a kid I hated:

"Ravishing" Rick Rude- One of the greatest heels of all time that never held the World Heavyweight Championship (WCW International title doesn't count). Man could draw heat with anyone, especially in the Dangerous Alliance days.

                        Mr. Perfect- See Rick Rude.

Sgt Slaughter- He hated America so I hated him.

Ric Flair- He seemed like he was beaten every match but somehow would pull it out or have a time limit draw. He made me want to pull my hair out.

Nasty Boys- There weren't many good heel tag teams besides The Brainbusters/The Enforcers back then and these guys were just simply annoying.
                        NFL- Green Bay Packers
                        NCAA- Florida State Seminoles
                        NHL- Carolina Hurricanes

80's era as a little kid)
Macho Man,was definitely my guy.I was a Hogan fan too but when eventually it seemed like one or the other it was Macho.
Also was a King Kong Bundy fan for some reason, along with Hacksaw and Jake the Snake.

I always hated the Warrior and Sgt Slaughter.

                          mid 90's through mid 00's)
Benoit was absolutely my guy and I really don't know if I would've stayed with wrestling without him.Not real good on the mic but brilliant in the ring.

Kurt Angle as great as anyone in the ring, was great as the naïve goofy guy in WWE.His rivalry with Benoit maybe the greatest of all time.

Eddie, again an all time great wrestler and very likeable, hard to watch Eddie and not smile.

                          Most Disliked
Hogan, now that I was older and knew the guy was an awful wrestler and bad for the sport, unwilling to help almost anybody get over.
Nash, just as bad as Hogan for all the same reasons, but with no where near the charisma or mystique, would pull a hammy as a manager.
Goldberg, average wrestler at best, thought the ridiculous push he got was short sighted and disrespectful of the sport, but I guess that's not entirely on him.

Currently I don't watch and have not watched more than probably an hour total in the last 5 or 6 years.

I'll just limit it to when I started watching, which was sometime in 1998:

                            Goldberg
Kevin Nash (and the rest of nWo Wolfpac for that matter)
                            Harlem Heat
                            Rock
                            Austin
