Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

So I'm in my first season at PSG and I bought Danny Welbeck, Michael Keane, Stephen Sama and Adnan Januzaj. I sold Ibra, Silva and some others worth a lot of money, but no young players (Lucas for example was kept). My problem is that I need help finding them playtime. I listed them all for loan expect Welbeck and no offers came in. We're out of the window and they jut aren't good enough. Welbeck (79 +1) starts every game so he's fine. Keane (67+2) is someone who is usually in the subs and he went up 2 despite having 2 appearances, Adnan (62+1) and Sama (63+1) both are always in the reserves because their overall is so low. How can I get them all enough playtime so their development isnt stunted but still win games?

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

      Team: Portsmouth
      League: Football League 1
      Difficulty: Legendary w/ Gonira/Orion Sliders
Objective: Finish Mid-Table, Round of 32

I'm in December and just took first place in the league table. I'd been chasing MK Dons and Charlton Athletic, behind by 2 and 1 respectfully. I got a 2-0 win against Swindon whose pretty low in the table right now, but both MK Dons and Charlton drew so now MK and I are tied for first with 44 but I'm ahead on GD.

I'm certainly more successful in cup competitions this season than I was last season. I've reached the Area QF in the JPT and I face Bournemouth next. By some miracle I reached the QF of the Capital One Cup beating Chelsea (that's right Chelsea) 1-0 and West Brom 2-1 to do it. That Chelsea game was pure luck though. They were putting the screws to me until the start of the 2nd half where they conceded a penalty. After that I switched to a 5-4-1 and went turtle. However, Newcastle meant business and they beat me 4-2, so I'm out.

My purchases from last season, Adam Campbell and Jordan Obita, are developing well, growing +5 each to 66 and 70 respectfully. At the beginning of the season I picked up 3 players so I don't need to go crazy this January but I do need a starting CB to replace a declining Marcos Painter. One of my CMs Simon Ferry has been playing very well between last season and this one, growing to 68 OVR, +2 over his potential. He is 26 though and likely won't be getting much better. I won't transfer list him because I could definitely still use him but my hope is that I'll get a good enough offer to sell him, and use that money on the CB this season or on something else next season.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I just had the match of my life in my Real Madrid CM; It was El Clasico at Barcelona and in addition to their usual stacked squad of Messi, Neymar, Iniesta etc. They also bought Thiago Silva from PSG.

I knew I was gonna have to play the match of my life to get a win despite my own very talented squad. ( Ronaldo is not on my team since he requested a transfer so Marco Reus is playing his spot)

Barcelona went up early on a goal from Iniesta in the box off a deflection from a Messi shot. I kept my cool and in the 45th minute Bale went on a run down the right side of the pitch til he got to the box and sent a nice medium cross into an open Luis Suarez who pulled off a phenomenal volley right into the goal.

Second half was a war of attrition with neither side able to get a good shot on goal. That was til the 75th minute when Sergio Ramos nicked the ball from Neymar outside our box, sent a nice pass to Suarez who was waiting for it in the middle of the pitch. As Suarez held the ball, Bale streaked just above him staying onside with Thiago Silva on his back. Suarez made a perfect lead ground pass with just enough touch for Bale to possess the ball just outside the box and Bale sent a right footed shot past the keeper as he came out to defend.

Tension was at an all-time high by this point as the last thing I wanted was for Barca to equalize because if they did, surely the match would end in a draw considering how difficult it was to score; did I mention it was raining? They managed to take a couple of shots right to the 90th minute; I held my ground that is until I scored another goal to go up 3-1.

This last goal was blind luck to be honest; It was the 90th minute like I said Marcelo possessed the ball up on the top left side of the pitch about 20 yards before the halfway line. I was just trying to clear the ball and sent a cross down the middle of the pitch which happened to fall right into a streaking Suarez's chest as he battled both Silva and Puyol. He got the ball to his feet just inside the box as the keeper came out and used his great balance to launch one in the goal even though the keeper got a hand on it.

That was when I finally relaxed and it became apparent that I knocked off Barcelona at Camp Nou; After the match I checked my settings to verify I played on legendary which I did. I will say that it does seem true that Messi is kind of weak in the game since his lack of strength makes hard for him to control the ball near the box as my defenders are pressuring him. Where as a player like Bale or Suarez was able to fight off the defenders if only for a second to get a shot off. The only uncontested shot Messi got off was one where my defense had a brain freeze and let him make a run in the box.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Bought FIFA 14 for the Xbox One, after waiting for the next generation of consoles to release. I'm using a slightly modified version of Orion's Next Gen Sliders. Have to say, I'm loving what I've been seeing on the field so far.

I'm about two months into the campaign. I disabled the first transfer window as I wanted to play with the players that were on the roster and wanted to make it as realistic as possible. I also had Manchester City randomly drawn into a group for the Champions League, of which the first round robin is finished. More on that later.

Depending on the fatigue of players, I usually run a modified version of the 4-1-4-1. I move the CDM into more of a 3rd CB position, forming a triangle between the RCB and LCB. I've been decimated by injuries early in the campaign, with Lescott and Navas both suffering near season ending injuries. Lescott suffered a broken tibia during international play and Navas tore his ACL. Negredo hasn't turned out to be the wonder for me that he is for Man City in real life. Dzeko doesn't find much playing time, although he's been good for me whenever he's been subbed in. That said here is how I usually roll:

            GK: Hart
            LB: Clichy
            CB: Kompany and Nastasic
            RB: Richards
CDM: Kolarov -OR- Zabaleta -OR- Fernandinho
CM: Toure -AND- Javi Garcia -OR- Rodwell -OR- Fernandinho
            LM: David Silva
            RM: Samir Nasri
            ST: Sergio Agüero

Results so far have been mixed.

There is a clear gap between the Top 4 teams and the rest of the league. But it is still early in the campaign and there will be plenty of time to recover.

            Upcoming fixtures:

            11/2/13: Norwich City
            11/9/13: @ Sunderland
            11/28/13: Tottenham
            11/30/13: Swansea City

I plan on picking up 10 points from those matches. Anything less will be disappointing given where those teams are on the table.

            Capital One Cup

The Capital One Cup has reached the Round of 16, and there are some enticing fixtures in the round:

            Everton takes on QPR
Aston Villa faces off against Wigan Athletic
            Blackburn will face Manchester City
            Fulham takes on Arsenal
            Tottenham will matchup against Burnley
Crystal Palace takes on Preston North End
Wolverhampton squares off against Leeds United

And the fixture of the round pits Chelsea against Liverpool.

            Champions League

Halfway through the group stage in the Champion's League and here is what all the groups look like:

And that wasn't my main question. I asked what are ways to get these low 60 OVR players pt without setting myself up for a loss.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

So I decided to just focus on my Real Madrid career mode and I also started a new one. In this one, I did what another poster said he wanted to do and that is to put the top 8 MLS teams in the Mexican league to allow them to qualify for Copa Libertadores.

In the Mexican league I put, Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders, Sporting KC, Portland Timbers, Houston Dynamo, New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy. For my team I decided to manage C.F. Monterrey. I had about $10,000,00 in my transfer budget but only $45,000 in wage budget so I really had less than 10 million.

For my first move I decided to sign a RB since my highest rated RB was a 33 year old rated 67. I had heard about Daniel Opare so I went after him. His club Standard Liege agreed for a $2,000,000 transfer fee. He eventually signed with me for 4 years. I run a two striker system and didn't have any depth at that position so I wanted to target a young striker who would grow at my club.

Initially I searched for players whose clubs listed them for loan but couldn't find anything worthwhile. Looking back I should have just asked clubs to loan me a player regardless of whether he was loan listed. But I did come across a real gem in the young 20 year old Dutchman Jurgen Locadia. His club PSV finally agreed to let him go for $5,300,000. I also managed to get Barcelona to sell me Jonathan Dos Santos but unfortunately I didn't have enough money to sign him to a contract.

In my first game at home vs. Seattle Sounders, both my new signings made an immediate impact. Opare dribbled down the side on the edge of the box and sent a cross inside but a defender blocked it with his arm giving me a penalty kick. Jurgen Locadia calmly put it in for a goal in his debut. We had so many chances to score in the first half but could not convert which was frustrating. Game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Second match on the road at Real Salt Lake, Opare sent a medium cross to Locadia who took a shot that deflected off the keeper but Opare stayed in position and kicked in the deflection. Again, we had more shots on goal than the opponent but couldn't convert. We lost 2-1 but Locadia got on the score sheet again.

Even though we haven't gotten a W, I am really impressed with the way Locadia has played. He is 6'3 with 76 strength, 78 acceleration and 76 sprint speed. He also has 82 shot power. He reminds me of a young raw Bale. He overpowers the Mexican defenders while being able to outrun them. He also frees up space for my other striker Suazo who is a solid veteran. Opare is also a freak of nature with his 88 acceleration and 91 sprint speed. And since my formation doesn't have true wingers, it helps that he also has a high offensive work rate that allows him to widen the pitch and send in a cross.

I like my chances with this squad but realize the talent disparity is so close in this custom Mexican league; I see Locadia having a big year and leading us to the top.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Update on Nottingham Forest, season 2

Went ahead and raided Arsenal for Yaya Sanogo for 1m pounds, and Gnabry on loan for the rest of the season. I turned down three deadline day offers for Fraser Forster in excess of 8m pounds, from Porto, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich (Neuer got sold to Barca for 20m).

My first game in February was a league encounter with Bolton, which I lost 1-0. The board promptly e-mailed me stating it was imperative that I "experiment with squad dynamics" to ensure a good result against QPR. Fine-tuned the shape and work rates of my custom 4-2-3-1 and I pulled off a 2-1 win that brought my entire starting XI from okay form to good.

Continued the good fortune in the Euro League R32 against AZ. First leg was away in the Netherlands, and I pulled off a sweeping 3-0 win. Gomis opened the scoring within 30 minutes when he was brought down in the box and awarded a penalty, dispatching it with power down the middle. Went into the break 1-0 up and came out all guns blazing. Around the hour mark, Mackay-Steven latched onto the rebound from a corner and thundered one past the keeper, before Mutch played Gomis clear through for him to get a brace and a third away goal. Returning home, I scored in minute 18 with Sanogo to secure progress to R16.

My next game was the Capitol One Cup final against Sp*rs at Wembley. I scored the first and second goals in quick succession (8', 14') with Chalobah and Gomis. But Spurs managed to pull one back with Lamela in minute 19. From then on, I set out to maintain possession and go forward only if I had a clear chance. I kept my nerve to win 2-1 and lift my second cup, making it two trophies in two years.

Next up were Crystal Palace and Manchester City in the league; I had to win the first, and avoid loss in the second. Gomis managed to score within 30 minutes in both, and I took six points from both games in 1-0 wins. The City scalp really pleased me as it helped me to get 6th on the table with a huge cushion (11 points) over seventh, and cut the gap between me and City (5th position) to just 5 points. With 27 games played, I'd say my mid-table finish is virtually guaranteed barring a freak collapse.

I drew Athletic Bilbao in the Euro League R16. The first leg in England was an electric affair, with both sides going forward in abundance and defending well. It was a late goal from super sub Victor Andrade in the 83rd minute that gave me a comfortable 1-0 win and denied Athletic any chance of an away goal. I go into the second leg expecting to grab a first-half away goal and then hold the ball in the second; let's see how it goes.

Gomis has become really easy to play with ever since I changed his work rate and positioning. He's no longer a link-up striker, but a decent target man with great hold-up play. Gomis is now the league's second-highest scorer on 14 goals (21 in all competitions); Jovetic has had a bit of a drought and been stuck on 16 since December, and I just found out he suffered a metatarsal fracture and is going to be out a bit longer. Gomis catching up and claiming the Golden Boot would really help me command a big fee for him in the summer.

                    *****
                    Team Setup

I started with a standard 4-2-3-1 and moved the CAM more withdrawn, to the tip of the midfield triangle closer to the two defensive midfielders (10 clicks). Mutch now drops deeper to pick up the ball from midfield/defense, allowing Diaby and Chalobah to hold position until they need to come forward in support.

I also moved both wide AMs 5 clicks forward so that they're almost like inside forwards.

With his new work rates, Gomis now plays further away from the penalty spot and is offside much less, which I really like because his long shot rating is a respectable 84. He's been smashing his goals in mostly from volleys off keeper rebounds, and semi-long rising shots from just outside the box. Very confident of getting him to 25 league goals at this rate.

                    Work rates below:

                    RB: M/H
                    RCB: L/H
                    LCB: L/H
                    LB: M/H
                    RDM: L/H
                    LDM: M/H
                    RAM: H/M
                    CAM: H/M
                    LAM: M/L
                    ST: M/L

Bringing Oscar in is going to take my team to a whole new level. He's got a bit more pace and shooting than Mutch, so I'll probably play him in one of my inside forward roles and keep Mutch at CAM. And my team next season is shaping up to have SERIOUS potential:

ST: An upgrade from Gomis to a tall, strong, fast target man with Sanogo as capable backup should do the trick. I might go in for a third striker if Sanogo doesn't impress by then, but he already feels really good at making space for others.

Inside FWD/Wide AM: Oscar, Mackay-Steven, Biabiany, Abdoun, and Andrade are excellent depth. European competition means I'll be able to keep them all happy with game time.

CAM: Mutch has this position locked down, but I need a good backup player. Bertrand Traore on loan hasn't impressed over the past two seasons. I'm thinking of getting an attack-minded CM for this, someone like Gundogan or Xavi/Iniesta but younger.

CDM: Diaby and Chalobah is my preferred first-choice pairing, but Lansbury is making a strong case to take over from Diaby. Lansbury refused my new contract offer, so I gave him 50% more than he asked for, which he should accept. Cattermole is great backup.

RB/LB: Byram and Cresswell, with Lichaj and Martins Indi as backup. Sorted.

CB: Dier plays 9/10 games at RCB unless he's injured or severely fatigued. Ake is good in the other spot but I need a third CB to rotate. Lascelles as backup in case of fatigue/injury/suspension is a good shout.

GK: Forster holds this for sure, but I need a better backup than Darlow for next season. Perhaps Butland will agree to a limited role if Stoke get relegated as they seem to be doing.

Youth: In addition, I have a CDM, a CM, a RW, and a ST from my youth academy (all 84+ potential) as future 1st team players who can contribute here and there when required.

Next season is the year my squad will finally have gelled to the point that winning becomes a habit, especially with the enormous development of Forster, Dier, and Mutch. I also expect to have the money to make significant improvements at CB, CM, and ST (should get in excess of 30m pounds if I win the Euro League, taking into account PL winnings and what I still have in my budget). A top-four spot is not out of the question, especially with Mutch and Oscar (still can't believe my luck) driving my attack.

Sorry for all the long posts, hope I'm not pissing anyone off with them!

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Just had my 3rd match with Monterrey against Tigres; they have one of the most talented teams in Liga Mexico. It felt like one of those matches where CPU was able to dissect my defense for some reason. They also were able to force a few turnovers and at the half they were up 1-0.

Things were looking grim til my young striker Jurgen Locadia scored a scorcher from outside the box. He single handedly dribbled around 2 defenders about 10 feet outside the box on the right side. Then with only a sliver of space he took a shot aimed toward the far left post. The ball literally curved 5 feet to the right and was placed just inside the left post which left the goal keeper flabbergasted. The pace on the ball was brilliant.

I felt really stagnant on offense and struggled but in the 75th minute my other striker Suazo dispossessed a defender just outside their box and sent in a finesse shot past the keeper with his left foot. Then CPU went into overdrive and I felt like it was gonna be one of those matches you are destined to lose or draw. It culminated with a B.S. handball call which gave them a penalty shot. With a stroke of luck my keeper read it correctly and saved it. It was a battle to keep them out of my box in the final minutes but I held them off for the win.

Opare was not able to make but one cross and if it wasn't for Locadia's skill, we probably would have lost. In other news I managed to buy young striker Petar Sliskovic for $1,400,000 since I was not able to afford Jonathan Dos Santos. He is 22 years old has 81 strength. I needed a 4th striker and felt he was the most affordable option.

In summary, I am glad I made the decision to go ahead and pay $5.4 million for Locadia instead of $2.5 for an older not as talented striker just so I could have enough money leftover for Jonathan Dos Santos. I like Dos Santos a lot but Locadia has been the best player on my team through 3 matches and I can see him doubling his value in one season.

I'm looking for some sliders to make Legendary a bit more easy and realistic, World Class looks so easy. The Orion's Sliders are manual and they look unrealistic, Xavi passing the same as a random player . Anyone can help me?

English is not my first language, sorry .

sliders don't widen or reduce the ability gap between players, it's unfair to criticize a slider set using this criterion.

Hey guys sorry can't find the Q&A thread. How do I read offsides. I don't really understand it as it always seems to be moving.

a player is offside if, at the moment that the ball was passed to him (i mean at the moment the ball left the foot of the passer, not the moment it was received), he is in front of the midfield line, in front of the ball line and has less than two opponents in front of his own line (the opponent goalkeepers is counted). if he's exactly at the same line of the penultimate opponent, he's not offside. if an offside player doesn't participate in the play, there is no call. the offside rule isn't applied to corner kicks and throw-ins.
