I'll tell you, the stadiums overall, and the floor textures are awesome in the game. If everything was as high quality, this game would look really nice.

Re: NBA Live 14 Has Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here
Can anyone tell me if the shooting has changed? What I mean is on the demo when I shoot a jumper with someone, it didn't feel like there was a "flow" to someones shot. You know what I mean? I didn't have that feeling of a real "follow through" with jump shots. It felt like the moment someone was almost at the height of their jumper, its like the follow through felt like it was super fast forwarded.. they all feel like quick flicks rather than jumpers... same thing for dunks.. the moves leading to the dunks are OK.. and coming down off the rim is OK.. but again theres like this point inbetween right before the dunk actually happens and them coming down that feels like the animation goes into 8X fast forward....
Basically does the jump shooting and free-throws still feel robotic and similar for each player shooting that same kind of shot?
Do the players look less wrapped in Saran-wrap?__________________________________________________ ____

I can only assume that the game becomes laggy on high detail. Game looks pretty good up close and little things are getting better day by day.

I have the full game in my hands now an I have to say, it's pretty good. I'm really liking the player differentiation. Makes it feel different with every team you play with. I find in 2K I feel like every team is the same, there's just different ratings. I wish they had more signature jumpers in though. I'm having lots of fun with the game even though I've just started playing(the full game). Expect more posts here from me in the future.Twitter: BCLG_YTComment

I can say that the shooting in the retail version "feels" far and above anything else. I can shoot with Ben McLemore's sweet form, and it feels totally different than Rudy Gay or Derrick Williams by far. Different release points, different quickness. I feel like I have to hold the button until in real life I'd "flick my wrist" to launch. I don't know if that makes sense, but I really like the way it feels. Can anyone tell me if the shooting has changed? The free throws, I have seen 2-3 different ones I believe, but they all generally feel the same. And I could be totally wrong, they may be all the same. I know Shawn Marion has his separate one. The Free Throws do feel generic no doubt.
The dunks, I'm actually enjoying quite a few of them. I'm seeing more and more different dunks each day. They flow pretty smooth as well, no more "rocket dunks" that I've seen. That was one of my biggest gripes even in the teaser trailer, was Derrick Rose's rocket dunk. They all feel smooth/fluid, no real hitch.
There is 1 alley oop that I'm not terribly fond of, and it's the one that they catch the ball and **** it back with two hands before slamming it home. It looks ferocious, but it's the one dunk that does feel sped up to hid a transitional animation. When you go into replay though, it looks just as smooth as anything else.
Hope this helps somewhat.Twitter - WTF_OS

Hey let me know when you figure out Dirks game. I could not get anything going with him. Played 1 half with the mavs and Dirk was shooting like 3-15. Monta and VC carried the load.I have the full game in my hands now an I have to say, it's pretty good. I'm really liking the player differentiation. What you say is true Will - the more you play it, the more you appreciate what it brings to the table. I'm not blind to the rough edges of the game, but they don't negate the solid game of basketball that's under the hood here.Twitch - bluengold34_osComment

While let me first just say, playing with Dirk is a blast in this game. EA gave Dirk some love unlike 2K. His signature jumper and fade are so close to real life I can't tell the difference. All you really have to do is not shoot TOO much with him. If he is posting up and wants the ball feed it to him and try to do a fade. Also you can run the pick an pop and shoot jumpers if he is open. I like to drive with Carter or Ellis and kick it out to him.Last edited by DIRK41NOWITZKI; 12-12-2013, 07:59 PM.Twitter: BCLG_YTComment

Yeah, Dirk is a force in this game. He has a full arsenal of weapons.
Bng, it's definitely not perfect, but its getting better by the day. It plays a really solid game of NBA basketball under the hood.Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: NBA Live 14 Has Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here
After a couple of days with the game, a lot of frustrations the first couple of games and now I'm in love with it! It needs work in some areas but the core gameplay is fantastic! Simple, basketball and effective. The strategic element where you have to adjust in the defense and then see too work is nice.
Looking forward to this game only getting better.
I've just played a Dynasty game agains Portland, the first i played was hella realistic in, both i stats and gameplay. I was trailing the whole game, coming back and being down by 5-7 pt, then messing up. Back and forth we went until the fourth qt, things happened, adjustment was made, getting stops, making good buckets and boom I was back in the game and ran over them. Unfortunately, I didn't save so I had to play that game again. This time tho i was rather ready for it. Won that game by 31
haha
Heres some moment of that game, not spectacular but it's just basketball! Like real BASKETBALL, so sexy!

Seems like some Synergy has kicked in...teams are definitely being a little more assertive (in the half court at least, still not seeing a lot of high tempo offense)...there are definitely still times when the CPU becomes brain dead though....especially if you decide to play off ball...it's like they completely shut down..doubt that's something Synergy can really fix, so hopefully it can be addressed in a patch or put in next year...
I do think everyone should take the time to actually learn the ins and outs of the game before judging it, because it will definitely make more sense as you go a long.....for me personally... It's been pretty hard to get immersed in this game, even looking past the graphics..just not finding it to be a fun experience...the lack of paint defense and the inability to counter that with sliders is a consistent annoyance..
Glad you guys are having fun though!! That's all that matters at the end of the day..Comment

Re: NBA Live 14 Has Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here
Really digging the game too and have been for a while, I just didn't want to get into the debate and have to justify with others what I did with MY money.
For me it's about having control of my human control player at all times which this game does far better than any other option. Which, by the way, I have noticed there are small instances when they either delay, take it away, or reinterpret user input, ala 2K, and this is atypical of Live's traditional philosophy. I hope the masses aren't able to convince EA that the only way to simulate basketball is with long drawn out animations that look pretty but render the controller a "suggestor" instead.
I also like the Help D, Spacing, and several other aspects that have already been mentioned. Naturally Live isn't the prettiest thing I ever saw, but if the choice is between controlling and suggesting, I'll be happy to control stick figures as opposed to suggesting how photo realistic ones move and play.
Bottom line is I agree with Will and Flight. Similar story I bought 2K, although mine isn't broken in the sense it's not operable, but since first converting 2K in NBA 2K10 I lamented the lack of control and or sluggish response to input in that series and when picking up 2K14 I found it to be more of the same. I was ready to just give on video game basketball because the reviews for Live 14 are/were abysmal and I thought that many people can't be wrong. In desperation I bought Live because there weren't but so many games available for my PS4 and found it to be refreshing. I liked Live 10 but unlike most I felt Wangs contributions were to bring 2K like approaches to the Live series which I didn't like. It was with his arrival that I first notice "suction D" and locked in contact animations. I admit I formed that opinion purely out ignorance because I don't really know who brought what to Live 10, but I do like that this game is going away from that type of stuff. I do think they should increase the size of the contact patch, or whatever you call the area that the CPU uses to detect contact between two players because it would make defense and creating contact in general much more consistent.
Funny thing as I lurk around and read you guys' debates I chuckle at how the world goes around. I remember the days when the 2K crowd was evangelizing it and saying the overly complicated controls represented depth in the game and it wasn't a pick up and play title because that would be "arcadish" and how you had to take the time to learn the game to truly appreciate it. Pretty much the arguments have flipped and it's hilarious.
One more thing, for those of you having trouble with points in the paint and post defense, I've found the proper defensive angles (as coded in this game) to be shifted slightly toward the baseline instead of directly between the player and basket. As a result in order to create contact with a player driving to the basket you have to defend his outside shoulder. I kinda think of it as defending the sides of the box on the backboard instead of guarding the rim. As far as post defense, I've found the "slides" to be ineffective especially against the spin to the basket, instead don't let the post player get into your body allowing him to spin off of it. When defending the post back up off the ball handler a half step so that you can quickly move with him and you'll find post defense quite easy in this game.Comment
