Wings Start Preseason 3-4

After the addition of both Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss the Wings look like they were rusty from the off season. Only scoring more than 2 goals in 1 of their 7 games. Howard played in all 3 of their games, leaving Wings fans wondering if the offense can score this season and if the back up goalie Gustavsson can handle it.

This game was a low scoring hard hitting nail bitter. Helm had the game winning goal with a tip from the shot of Bertuzzi. The shot was tipped 3 meters in front of Greiss and went in on the short side. Zetterberg would score the empty net goal to give the Red Wings a 2 goal lead. Jimmy stood on his head with recording his 1st shutout of the season. This is the 17th of his career. Stephen Weiss left at the beginning of the 2nd period with an undisclosed arm injury.

Weiss Out With Lacerated Arm

Weiss was injuried in the 2nd period of last nights game at Phoenix. He was taking off the ice and later evaluation was diagnosed with a lacerated arm. He will miss 2-3 months to recover from this injury. With already being injury prone this is what Wings fans were worried about when Holland signed him for a 5 year deal. Weiss is projected to come back late December, going into early January.

The Wings won this game on a flimzy. They were just slow and unmotivated tonight. But with 2 fluke goals by Helm and Bertuzzi, they pulled off the win. At the end of the first Helm just threw a puck at the net and it slide right underneath of Emery for the tying goal. Bertuzzi scored the game winning goal on a shot from the side of the net that would go right threw Emerys arm. Samuelsson went down in the 3rd period and would not return for the rest of the game. We will find out more later.

Samuelsson Out With Concussion

Samuelsson will be out for the next 3-4 weeks with a concussion sustained against the Flyers. He was hit by Couture against the boards. The NHL said it wasn't a hit to injure a person so he will not be suspended for any games. This puts another dent into the Red Wings roster. They are only 6 games into the season and have Weiss and Samuelsson out.
