How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
Im getting a little frustrated with this aspect of the game. I finally play some decent D, knock the ball away or block a shot with three of my men near the ball. But for some reason my teammates wont pick up the ball. I've been switching lately, trying to take matters into my on hands and seem to get that animation where he just missed grabbing the ball. Even when Im there much before the AI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.JahsWillTags: None -

LoL this issues right here. I think 2k doesn't even know. -

Well if 2K doesn't know (which I can't image they don't), they need to...this is one of the more frustrating aspects of gameplay that I encounter. Being that their objective was to bring the players to "life", I don't get how they behave like mindless zombies in instances where there's a loose ball. I DO notice though that the AI has no problem picking it up at all...Originally posted by Mighty MosMy restlessness is my nemesis, it's hard 2 really chill and sit still

I've never encountered this. I just run over the ball and player picks it up, or i press the hustle button and he throws himself on the floor to Catch it.

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
This issue is why 2k14 next gen has the most obvious momentum effects I have ever seen. The CPU goes into killer offense mode and I finally get them to miss a shot. I had three or four guys surrounding a rebound. The ball gets batted through three of my guys then Kevin Love picks its up in one motion and scores. If it was two guys fighting for the ball and losing it I could understand but this was three or four guys.Comment

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
It happens all the time and it's maybe the most frustrating gameplay issue in the game. Just last night in mycareer I blocked Jameer Nelson's shot only to have him reach back and grab the off rebound and score.
All while my center stood there locked in some dumb animation regardless of what button I pressed.Comment

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
This, along with the quirkiness of rebounding, are the worst aspects of gameplay. I know it isn't terribly realistic, but there should be some sort of way to make it so that if your guy is close enough, he will just move over and get the ball. It is impossible to move you guy in the exact angle needed to get a loose ball.Comment

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
I think the issue occurs more so when you're in a close proximity to the ball. Not when you have to cover further distances.Originally posted by Mighty MosMy restlessness is my nemesis, it's hard 2 really chill and sit still

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
It's frustrating when you lose the ball and your player goes into this long "Which way did he go?" animation and the CPU sweeps by you for the steal, but when it happens to the CPU they'll quickly pick the ball up before you get the chance to steal.Comment

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
I have and it's annoying but not game breaking happens once every couple if games. It's when your player (or another) drops the ball very close to you and player don't respond to pick the ball up. It hasn't had an effect on an outcome of a game ... Yet#1 Laker fan

Press X/square to dive on the ball when its rolling away.
But when it just drops at your feet...I dont know what to do.Comment

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
They need to make Triangle/Y the universal 'get ball' button.
I cant tell you how many times I had to quit the games because my team would let the ball roll around their feet and stare like morons.Comment

Re: How in the Heck Do You Pick Up Loose Balls?
For most of these, there's already a dice roll under the hood when the ball comes out in free space, such as for a rebound or a loose ball. The result of that dice roll triggers an animation. All the players, CPU and user alike, are at that point, in action sequences that are predetermined.
That's why, when the CPU is on a rhythm run and pwning the user, blocking a shot with user play or knocking the ball loose won't necessarily trigger a good event for the user. On the one hand, it will incrementally diminish flow/rhythm for the cpu, but it won't change the rhythm meter entirely.
So the dice roll that ensues may give the CPU four offensive rebounds in a row or a clean pick up of the loose ball followed immediately by an open pass for a layup. Meanwhile, as part of the same animation, your teammates simultaneously enter their own animation, where the look like they are going to the ball but actually are just sort of spazzing around without purpose. And the user control player can't interrupt o affect the CPU's animation to the ball.
The rhythm/momentum mechanic under the hood in the game is a bit too overpowered. It's triggered in one direction or another by what happens on the court but also by the score to work against blowouts by the user. Under the hood, it drastically changes the sliders, though it doesn;t show on your sliders menu.
By by playing with sliders I would say the rhythm dynamic can change the sliders by as many as 30 points in key areas when it is gimping the user. It will step in to deflate user rhythm but doesn't do much or anything to deflate cpu momentum.
The only way to manage the game's issues is with sliders, though the underlying dynamic doesn't go away.Last edited by LorenzoDC; 12-17-2013, 09:50 AM.Comment
