He's still a great QB in the secondary when he wants to be. He can put guys in the right position. He just needs to stop freelancing himself. It's great seeing his 7 or 8 ints a year, but not at the cost of big plays given up bc he wasn't where he was supposed to be, taking a risk. He should be great for the locker room though, and can probably teach them how to prepare better for games. I'm assuming he was dirt cheap too.

He only played 11 snaps last game for a guy who knows quite a bit about defense.
Not sure if people understand or even care but he is not coming in as some sort of championship rental guy. He's not even going to be a starter (probably down the road).

Cost the Jets what, $400K? And has better hands than every defensive player on the team.

If there was some sort of risk for bringing the guy in, I'd love to hear it.

Can you reword that if it's directed at me? In the post you quoted I said he was probably dirt cheap and broke down what I thought his pros and cons are. Rex knows him too, and it will really be a matter of if Rex uses him for what he is TODAY or if he lets Reed convince him of what he should be (or let his past convince him of that).

I'm not sure what else you're asking if you're question was directed at my post.

I will say, the hands argument is overrated... he's not a WR.

Truly ecstatic that the Jets got Reed. A veteran mind is just what we need, and he's on defense. Even better.

When it comes to defense I give Rex the benefit of the doubt. He'll figure out a role that Reed can help us in.

Scares me that he jumped to name him the starter. Rex is Rex but the personal relationship between the two could cloud judgement.

I will say this week, I wouldn't be surprised if Ed puts his life on the line to make at least one huge play.

Good move by the Saints, it's not so much about Hartley as it is about sending a message to the rest of the team.

I think it's not about the rest of the team when you have a kicker who's missed 4 FGs inside the 40

I probably didn't explain myself properly.
Of course Hartley deserved to go, and it was obvious he wouldn't be back next year some time ago.
But the cut coming after a game in which the entire team played awfully is a message that noone is safe. As bad as Hartley was, he wasn't the biggest problem last week.

Anyway, appreciate all he's done for the team but he's been awful this year and I'm glad we'll have a new kicker.

Hartley has been struggling for a while now. That was probably just the straw that broke the camels back.
