I voted for FIFA 14. NBA 2K14 looked pretty, but, in my opinion, it was the most disappointing game of the launch. The online requirement, VC, missing elements (e.g., cheerleader, warm ups, fans moving around, holiday graphical over lays, people on the baselines, etc.) were too much to overlook.

based on 1 in-game, off-line only sample... NBA 2k14

as a full entity, FIFA14. I voted for FIFA14 because as a full size sample it is a better complete product than NBA2k14.

both look great, play great and feel upgraded from last-gen but 2k14 gets points deducted for the longest wait to get updated rosters, severe server lag, inability to even access the servers, the currency system crap, completely removing 2 HUGE parts of the game in the Crew and Online Association. forgot to add that the new patch actually made things worse lag-wise, I've been lucky enough not to be hit with the MyGM bugs that have been reported with the new patch.

Fifa kept most of its components and the server woes were no where near as bad as 2k. it is also nice to be able to jump into Pro Clubs with very little if any lag most any time of day.

honorable mentions to Forza 5 and Madden.

All of these games had flaws, whether it was technical, stripped down, graphics or just being a port of current gen. Without a doubt NBA 2K14 has laid the best next gen foundation by far by nailing graphics and game play in year 1. The only things to do now is more bug testing and feature adding. Early in this cycle of consoles we could have a classic dynasty emerge as soon as NBA 2K15 if they listen to the OS community and tweak some things.

I voted for FIFA because I do not even like the actual sport of soccer but this game was really well done. I am waiting for the World Cup version, but I actually had the most fun with FIFA this holiday season and bought both Madden and NBA 2k14.

I was really torn between FIFA and Madden, but went Madden because it is the best football game to date. FIFA would be like 1A to me.

NBA 2K14 plays a great game, but the terrible implementation of VC in modes where it shouldn't be makes me hate playing it at times.

NBA 2k14 for me because I feel it took the greatest leap to next gen and has a great foundation to start from. Once the little annoying gameplay issues and VC system is taken care of, and I can't stress how disappointing VC was being used in MyGM and for accessories, it'll be unbelievable. I feel Fifa 14 was a good game but still needs to improve graphics. I have a good feeling MLB 14 The Show will really be the best nextgen sports game obce it's released though. So excited. Also, let down by NBA 2k14's MyPlayer creation but still seems the most promising series until MLBb14 The Show cones out of course.

That's kinda the problem, like 50% of 2k14s product is promise and terrible implementation.

FIFA actually has the most complete feel to it. For game of the year, it shouldn't be about promise.

I agree that the show will/should be a top candidate for 2014 SGOTY.

For right or wrong, 2K is going to receive a backlash in-voting due the connectivity and VC issues. Gameplay wise, it's hands down the sports game of the year!

I voted FIFA 14. I like that game so much I have to be careful when I play it because I try and play just one match but keep playing more.

I would need to give it to Forza 5. I ended up liking FIFA alot on next-gen, but on first glance and overtime Forza felt like the best all-around next-gen game to me.
