After playing about 12 games in My Career on Christmas
After reading so many complaints about the VC units in NBA2K14 I was so worried that this mode was going to be horrible and tedious. But I actually find it quite fun and enjoyable thus far. I find the amount of points you get per game is worthy and can be applied to skills easily and fairly. I'm not sure what all the complaints were about unless the people complaining just want to be as high rated as Kobe or something so they can dominate and dominate quickly. I like the idea I might get 5 points one game and the next game get 12 coming off the bench. In time I know I will be a starter and in time I will be more of a star. The only issue I have is the VCs toward the cosmetic things like shoes, wraps and so on. I'm not sure why those things are so expensive as most things do not help your characters skill set(there are some and those should be expensive) but a majority is really just giving some flair to your character which I feel should be crazy cheap if not free. But to that I just don't buy anything.
I think the "STORY" of the mode could be way less cheesy and the options to answers to the questions less vague. Example: In my fist game I'm on the bench waiting to get in, coach calls timeout and I get the option to either celebrate with the other players or "hang back" - as a mello person in real life and understanding it is the 1st quarter I just hang back, nothing negative but then I see my animation where I am shaking my head, disappointed. Next thing I know I am getting yelled at by the GM and the last spot on the roster with 0 minutes in rotation. To me there should have been like 4 choices and a little more detail on the answer so I could decide how to respond. Instead of basically "supportive" or "Non supportive." And that issue carries on through the story. I am only 10 or 12 games in but the questions are just bland and more like "Common Sense" answers which takes the "you" out of it I guess. Also get in some more voice actors with different personalities this stereotypical black Bball player and his buddies is annoying as I do not have that personality at all which takes me out of the whole RPG feel altogether. I dialog is forced and content is just bad, it's laughable. I think that character targets like 10% of the players. You are on PS4...use the tech and add at least 5-10 different characters. And I don't mean Russian or British but mentalities for America.
I was worried there does not seem to be any drills to do but now that I think of it by the 3rd season in 2k12 I never did them anyway unless I was bored. I like how some in game actions can create changes in the story. Example: I missed two free throws in a row at the stripe and Kevin Love comes up to me after the game and asks me to work on free-throws. That was neat...only complaint is I think I should get some stats or VCs after word instead of just ending and getting chemistry.
Overall though I am enjoying this mode but I did not have to suffer through like the rest of you have and I believe I have all 3 patches on. I do not play this game ever year so I cannot tell you if the AI is good or if things seems broken except for the things that make sense to me. But as a casual fan of the series I am enjoying MyCareer a lot
