I could see them taking a shot on Santana with an incentive laden contract, although considering how far his performance had dropped off compared to the Johan of old in recent years, I'm not sure how much he'll actually get.Comment

I saw this bit of news and the first thing I thought was "OK Alex it's time to back up the Rogers branded brinks trucks".
It'll be VERY interesting to see how competitive the Blue Jays' bid is considering how everyone felt like they were all in for Darvish and it turned out the Jays had one of the worst bids.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

With the Rodriguez thing hanging over the Yankees there is no way they can bid on this guy. Even if he gets a year suspension he can get an injunction and might still have the Yankees on the hook for his salary.Comment

Interesting thing I read.
Teams don't have to bid. They can negotiate a contract with Tanaka so long as they are willing to pay the Eagles $20 MM when a contract is agreed upon.

I think I read somewhere that the Mariners had spent all they can spend. With their rotation it would be a good fit since he wouldn't have to be the man.Comment

With so many teams likely offering Tanaka a contract, anyone think it's gonna turn into a back-and-forth, or is the general consensus Tanaka has already narrowed it down to 2-3 teams?

Pretty sure his agent Casey Close has narrowed it down to 2 or 3 teams. You'd have to think the Yankees and DBacks are in at this point and the 3rd teams could be anyone like the Dodgers or Mariners who have a need for another SP. Wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs are in either.Comment
