    Two things I can't believe:

    1) Sergei Gonchar is still in the league. Feels like he has been playing forever. I mean he spent ten years in DC, and that was before the first lockout!

    2) Sergei Gonchar is not 40 yet.

Not quite sure why I'm getting this COL/CHI game but good ole Patty Sharp having himself a game. Hat trick and it's a minute into the 2nd period.

He was one of those guys that I built up in one of my NHL 2kX franchises long after the Flyers actually traded/didn't resign him. Very happy for the success he's enjoyed in Chicago.
        NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
        NFL - Buffalo Bills
        MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Hat trick on his birthday for Sharp, **** him. The Blackhawks are good, I hope they face Vancouver in the 1st round again.

And Stastny scores on his birthday, 5-1!!!!

John Scott giveth and John Scott taketh.

Anyway, the Leafs realized that despite having a bunch of AHL'ers and Jay McClement at center, they are still playing Buffalo Sabres.

The Scott, Ellis, D'agostini line is way outplaying the Foligno, Leino, Omark line. So far I do not like Omark at all and see him as another Leino type player. He doesn't go into the corners at all or ever look very strong on his stick or the forecheck. Just another one of those players with no real work ethic. I love foligno but he is not going to have success with two guys that don't support him on the forecheck.

I really hope they just take Leino out back and give him the ole yeller treatment. He is the biggest waste of a roster spot I have ever seen.

Hawks are smokin' hot. And I'm loving Raanta so far. He needs to stay in net, even when Crow gets back.

Man, I'm really happy that Leafs finally got 2 points.

And John Scott scored, hahahahah. Plus I can't believe the first period, Leafs were really bad. But in second, that was great, especially as Gardiner scored and maybe also our defense is going to help build offense.

And congrats to Sharp, nice birthday present for him

Sounds like a 7/49 extension for Phaneuf is imminent.

Have you seen him play this year? He's averaging nearly 25 minutes/game, and playing some excellent hockey on a team of pretty average to awful back-checking forwards who give the puck away more than anyone in the NHL. If I were a defenseman for the Leafs I would break down and curl up into a ball every time Lupul, Kadri, Clarkson hit the ice. The Leafs would probably have like six wins this year without Phaneuf. What are the Leafs going to do? Let him walk and be better off? I don't see it.

Maybe it's an awful contract if he isn't playing like he is, and the cap stays around 40 million.

If Brian Campbell is a $7 million defenseman in this league, why not Phaneuf?

More realistically, look at Ryan Suter and his deal. I think in the new Rogers era NHL, the top pairing defenseman is going to fetch well beyond the $7 million price tag they do now. Probably upwards of 9 or even 12 if Ed Snyder ever found a Shea Weber-type in UFA.

Phaneuf gets way too much slack from fans, it's ridiculous, calling him a "pylon" and all this non-sense. Pretty easy to look like a pylon when you get put on the ice as much as Phaneuf has this year, he's probably gassed at the end of every game. Definitely deserves the extension, best defender the Leafs have got.

You have to remember that the Sabres got Omark for pretty much nothing, a sixth round pick for Omark is a STEAL, no matter what he does. He's a very highly skilled player. It's not every day that you see a 0.5 PPG player in the NHL go for a late round pick.

Toronto's goaltending is the only reason they've won games this year, Reimer has been great also.

Let's just hope that we resign Phaneuf for reasonable amount and get some true 1st line C - I'd trade Kadri plus sth to get some true 1st line C.

And I can't wait to have Bozak back in lineup, even though he isn't as sparkly as Kadri, but he makes the first line play better - and he wins faceoffs, contrary to Kadri, which is 84th in faceoffs for players that took enough faceoffs this season.
If Clarkson fails to produce with the Leafs then it looks like they'll just be paying 5.5 per year for a hard hitting goon for awhile...
