RBs help pass block?

Does anyone know the best way to get your RBs to 'actually' help pass block in NG? I understand hot routing them to help block which I do. The problem is that they tend to step up a few steps and don't seem too concerned about actual pocket formation. In CG, I would go with 2 RBs shotgun when I wanted time in the pocket and I'd hot route both RBs to block to handle any blitz. In NG, I'm noticing this helps absolutely NIL! I step back in the pocket, they step up, block nobody, and if the outside DE rush is good, I have 2, maybe 3 secs with 7 men blocking 4!! Would it help to go 2 RBs blocking and audible to spread the oline to take care of the outside while the RBs help on the inside? I'm actually not a fan of audibling oline adjustments. I want them to do that and simply do their job on pass plays. Lol. Do I need to up my pass blocking slider? Would this make them block appropriately? I'm just tired of calling max protect plays, and only having 2-3 secs against a 4 man rush.
