Burbank High School: Continuing the Legacy

    *Inspired by NewsCasters's Belltown Thread*

This thread will be used for my new dynasty that will consist on following and controlling a fictional high school basketball program. To fill up the roster positions, I will be taking OS user CAPS. Sign Up Link - http://www.operationsports.com/forum...-sign-ups.html

    Backstory:
Burbank High School has won a total of 12 Indiana state championships in the past 30 years. The high school program has produced a handful of players who have went on to the college ranks and even some who've made their way into the NBA.

This upcoming season the Burbank varsity basketball team only has 5 returning players so the question is: Will they be able to continue to legacy?

Burbank High School: Continuing the Legacy

Peter Vincent stepped into the amazing timeline of Burbank basketball after the legendary icon Stanley Hewitt stepped down after his amazing run of 36 years of serving as the head coach. Since then Vincent has continued the tradition of the Eagles basketball well and is on the road to earning a spot in the Indiana Coaching Hall of Fame.

In the past two seasons Peter Vincent has coached the Eagles to a 55-6 record including a completely undefeated 2011-2012 season. Overall, Vincent holds a coaching record of 188-47 and was 5 Indiana state championships awarded in his honor.

          Notes and Achievements
          • Since the arrival of Vincent, he's coached a total of 18 players who would go on to play D-1 or D-2 college basketball.

          • Coached Burbank to the state championship 7 times out of his 12 years of coaching.

          • When offered a NCAA D-1 coaching job in the MAC conference team, Vincent denied and continued his duties at Burbank.

          • Founder of the Westside Eclipses AAU team which sprouted a handful of high school stars.

          2012-2013 Season
          • Finished the season with a 24-6 record before losing to Carmel in the second round.

          • Captured a win against top ranked Huntington Prep in West Virginia. The final score winded up at 76-75.

          • Coached Ohio State commit Zion McGreer who received offers from over 20 college programs during the course of his high school career. Zion would go on to be Mr. Indiana as well as an McDonalds All-American.

          • Coached a roster that not only succeeded on the court but also maintained a grade point average of 3.4.

          • At one point in the season Burbank was on a winning streak of 16 games.

          Message From Peter Vincent
"Moving into our upcoming season here at Burbank, I hope to enjoy and enter yet another great season into the books. But we all must remember that none of it will be handed to us. Battles, rivalries, biases, you name it, we'll run into it all and have the taste of everything but it's important that whoever represents this basketball team will stick together and also work together in order to achieve what we believe."

          Yearly Quote
"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."

            Burbank Basketball Season Preview

Burbank High School may be one of the most richest schools in the tradition of Indiana basketball. The school is a main attraction for any of those who wish to glare at the 12 stunning state championships displayed in their trophy case. But despite it all, unlike every other year, they're no where to be found in the USA Today high school rankings. Maybe in consideration of loosing such a chuck of their class that lead them to all the recent victorious winning seasons.

Last season however, the Eagles fell short in the IHSSA tournament loosing to Carmel in the second round, 55-51. Carmel would then go on to win big at state against Merrillville. Coming into the 13-14 season the chances are looking even more scarce for Burbank as they loose top Indiana recruit, Zion "Smiley" McGreer to graduation as well as sharpshooting guard Cody Townsend.

Head coach Peter Vincent doesn't exactly have too much worries heading into the 13-14 season however. Un-hesitantly, Vincent has spoke out about how he has faith in 6'6 junior Carlton Valentine to take over and lead the team to victory. Valentine may not be the name too
many people know at the moment but the forward did big things on the junior varsity team last year and also made a name around Indiana as he dominated at the AAU level while playing for the Indiana Crossroads.

Valentine will look to merge with the 5 returning varsity members featuring Ball State commit Trent Reynolds, and four star recruit Chip Bridges.

"We've lost a lot of pieces from the puzzle but expectations are definitely still the same." Said Vincent. "All in all, a championship is still in sight and capturing it is the goal. Just like every other year."

Burbank as usual will be checking in and out of states around the country during the basketball season. They have multiple games out of their home state of Indiana, here's a few.

December 8th will be the start of it all as Burbank will make a stop in Nevada to take on one of the nations top prospects, Marshon Aubrey, and Findlay College Prep in a nationally televised game. Then on December 21st, just weeks afterwards, the Eagles will be in their neighboring state of Illinois to take part in the Chicago Elite Classic.

                  Basketball Tryouts

"Before I start the rant, if you know that your grades aren't where they're suppose to be, please exit my gym . . ."

*Jonathan McNeil heads out the double doors*

"Ok then. Most of you know me but if you don't, I'm coach Vincent. I've been around here at Burbank for 12 years now and I'm hoping to stick around for many more years to come. Here we all believe we're the best of the best of Indiana basketball and therefore we choose the best of the best players. We've got games against top 10 schools in the nation, not district but NATION so this program is no joke. It's definitely not an "after-school activity, Burbank basketball is a complete commitment from here all the way to March when we win state. Now before we get everything started here I'm going to give you all 15 minutes to do what you do to prepare yourself. If that's chucking up half court shots then go have fun.

                  -----15 Minutes Later-----

"So what my intentions in these tryouts are to obviously find out who can really stand out from the crowd and play the game of basketball at a high level. In order to do this, scrimmages are the best options therefore we'll be doing that pretty much all day. I will pair up three of you in a group.

Discussion: Your thoughts & goals during today's tryout session.

Chip Bridges: "I was a bit overlooked last season, I felt that coach played the upperclassmen over me even though I had greater skill so today the whole school will hear about how I dominated tryouts."

Bernard Benjamin (Thoughts to self): "Coach means business, well this is High School ball so I guess I can say it gets real from here on out and since this school will be playing top schools in the Nation...it gets real very quickly. I can't wait to get these tryouts started, I really need to stand out."

Vincent: "What are you thinking about this kid Raymond? I never heard of him much on JV but he's looking like a varsity player here.

(JV Head Coach) Pollard: "He's a developing slasher. He's got an ok jumpshot, I think he's ready for varsity but I suggest you only use him for depth."

*Raymond takes a hard drive into the paint and Trent takes the charge*

Vincent: "Ahhh, Trent, better than ever. Also, Devantae should be a huge addition as well correct?"

(JV Head Coach) Pollard: "No question. The kid averaged about 7 assists a game for me last year. He'll great insurance behind Trent."

                              Vincent: "Interesting."

(Varsity Assistant) Collison: Javon Jackson may be really skinny but he's got speed and is a great rebounder."

Vincent: "The kid is a stick. No way in hell I'm putting him on my roster. Once he hits the weight room he'll take JV by storm though. He's a good pickup for you Anthony (Pollard)."

(JV Head Coach) Pollard: "Yeah. He's a project but I can honestly see a call up in the mid-season."

Vincent: No, I don't do that call up crap. Team chemistry is a priority and having our players jumping around isn't helpful. Besides, have you forgotten about Chip and JR?"

*Jared Shayotapope goes down hard after a rebound*

Jared was slow to get up and was helped off the court by coaching staff and was taken to the team trainer. He did not return... Shayotapope, 6'5, was the only freshman to make varsity last season.
