Re: Sports Daily: Will Manziel be a Successful Pro QB?

I think he'll be successful if he doesn't get put in an offense that has alot of read option/designed QB runs. He is too small and will get hurt, limiting his mobility. He is a good enough QB to drop back and throw the ball. He's a great athlete and can scramble to gain his rushing yards. QB scrambles are harder to stop than a read option play. As long as Johnny Manziel learns how to slide, he will be a good QB

More smaller school QBs make it because theyre used to having to carry a team.
Outside of romo, there aren't any "small college" QBs who start in the nfl right now, I'm not sure what u mean by that....

He has the ability. No denying that. It all depends on the situation and what team drafts him.

Off the top of my head, Flacco went to Delaware or something like that.

            ---------------------

Regarding Manziel, I actually do think he'll be a solid starting QB in the NFL. People are so quick to say he won't be successful because he's a runner, but I've always been impressed by his accuracy. I think he can be a solid starter in today's NFL.

Well by bigger schools I meant your top schools. Not necessarily 'small schools'. But that list would include Romo, Flacco who went to Delaware, Thad Lewis who started most of this season from Duke, Rothlesburger from Miami of Ohio, Kapernick who went to Nevada Reno, and Ryan Fitzpatrick who went to Harvard. I was talking more about your bigger schools like A&M, Alabama, Ohio State, as opposed to your Baylor,
Vanderbilt, Purdue, TCU, the ones who dont get all the big time hype.

I think he will be a bust, and hurt all the time. I dont like running QBs to begin with. But this one is so small he will get crushed.

Re: Sports Daily: Will Manziel be a Successful Pro QB?

For me I look at three things.

He has the skill set and ability to be very, very good. I'm convinced of that.

How bad does he want it? Russell Wilson is successful because he puts in a crazy amount of work. As the cliche goes, he's the first to get there and the last to leave. He's watching video at 4 AM and no one will outwork him.

Lastly, will the team that drafts him set him up for success? Just as important as a player's skill set is the system in which he lands in.

I've never understood the character questions, but maybe that's because I don't follow college football as closely as I used to. To me, he's a college-aged kid that has seen a lot of success from an early age and maybe he has made some questionable decisions at this point, but what 21-year-old kid hasn't?

Ultimately, his success is up to him and I would not put it past him to be in the upper echelon of NFL QB's in the next three to five years.

Re: Sports Daily: Will Manziel be a Successful Pro QB?

From what I've seen of Manziel, he's a very accurate passer and has good-enough arm strength to be a good passer in the NFL.

Statistically, the guy absolutely lit up Nick Saban's Alabama defenses, probably the closest thing there is to an NFL defense in college football, the two times he played them. That's saying something.

I'll be honest…I didn't realize how little Manziel is until the BCS title game where they had him next to Tebow. Tebow dwarfed him and while Tebow is a big guy, he's not huge for a QB in the NFL (height wise). Manziel looked 3" shorter…I fear if he plays his style in the NFL he'll get destroyed.

Let me go down a list of successful recent college QBs who people said would be good in the NFL. Tebow, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Colt Mccoy, Colin Klein, Sam Bradford, Dennis Dixon, Jason White, Troy Smith, Jimmy Clausen, Eric Crouch, Pat White, Colt Brennan, Chris Weinke, etc. Idk if Manziel will even be around 5 years from now in football, Im doubting it right now but hey we'll see. But Im pretty sure everyone who comments that he will dominate the NFL probably said the same thing about 75% of that list. So I am sure that you guys have no clue what your talking about. Ill listen to what Greg Cosell has to say.
You're sure that everyone else is clueless, yet half the QBs you mentioned in your list weren't even remotely considered potential top-5 picks, nor graded at the same talent level. Right.

Where Manziel lands could have a big impact on how he pans out as an NFL quarterback. What pieces will be in place where he's drafted?

I actually think the Browns would be a decent spot considering the players that are already there. It's the coaching/FO situation that makes the Browns iffy, and that's admittedly a pretty huge deal, especially for a young QB.

it depends on what team he gets drafted by. it'll be helpful if he gets drafted by a team with a presumed starter, so he can get his mechanics right for the specific style of offense. It also depends if the HC will be willing to ADAPT to fit Johnny's needs, advantages, and weaknesses.

in general, i predict he will be a succesful qb in the near future, he may have to work himself up the depth chart, but its worth the wait

I dont see him being a great pro. Just because he try's to do to much with his feet.I think he'll have an injury plagued career like RG3.
