New PS4 owner... what are NBA's issues?

So I have am confused on the issues surround NBA 2k14. I have tried to find info to make my decision. I really want 2k14 on PS4... but I don't know if these issues are severely hindering OFFLINE gameplay. I DO NOT play NBA 2k14 online at all on my 360 and won't play online on my PS4. Can anyone explain if it is still worth it to buy 2k14 on PS4 if you aren't concerned with online play?

The entire game is tied to being online so if the servers don't work, you can't play anything but quickgame

If you are playing nothing but offline, then no, it isn't worth it. MYGM, MyTeam, and MyCareer are all online-oriented (due to 2K's selfish microtransactions) .

You will be playing nothing but quick games.

Supposedly you can play offline as long as you start those modes while not connected to the internet. But those modes were built to always be connected to the 2K servers. You wont earn VC which runs pretty much everything about the game.If you can get the game used for $40-$45 then yea its worth it. But $60 brand new plus tax I say no and wait for another patch to see if it fixes all the bugs and crashing.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

It's worth it imo offline or online. It's the best sports game ever made. I'm not even a huge basketball fan but this game is raising my interest!

Worth your time and money. But don't expect a perfect game. There are issues, some of which are pretty big. The most noted one is the unable to play offline. The amount of frustration people felt over Christmas because of the servers cannot be understated. Since then, no issues though.

Another significant issue is the lack of depth in MyCareer. There is no Free Agency, which is a huge oversight. There should also be more variety to MyCareer. From being a sports gamer and seeing the thread results on this forum, I'd imagine that MyCareer is by far the most used feature (as it should be), but lacks some very simple and basic functions that would take it to the next level.

I can get over the online saves, if I could have faith that their servers would work 99% of the time. But the MyCareer issues...

Here's a fun article about NBA 2k14 on grantland (one of my favorite sports blogs):
