Re: NBA Live 14 Has Arrived, Post Your Impressions Here

A couple things that I've noticed from the game are that defender don't close out aggressively towards shooters, they only contest shots from their spot trying to block or raising a hand even if they're too far to affect anything, instead I believe they should be rushing towards the shooter or at least contesting moving forward to the other player. This would be better since you'd have to choose better if you want to shoot with a long defender arriving or one with a big wingspan and also overaggressive defenders could be tricked by offensive players by drawing fouls.

The other thing is that defenders aren't physical enough specially against the best players. I've seen several gamewinners in this game where the offensive player freely moves to the spot on the court wherever he wants without any opposition from his defender. You'll notice that during those situations defenders bump, get very physical, even pull and grab the player to stop their opposition to move where they want.

I've notice that the only time you get the bump animation is when the offensive player drives and you cut him off. You can't initate the contact. He has to come into your space THEN the bump animation. It doesn't seem that you can crowd him or bump him (even at the expense of a foul). I would like it better even if I were penalized occasionally.

I wish it was like that, that playing physical can be a tool to defend but overusing it or being overaggressive costs you a foul but with the lack of fouls that this game currently has unfortunately I can't see it being implemented nor effective.

PiP is still messed up, had OKC score 100 on me in the paint. Blow out game 140-116. How on earth is it possible to have such a high scoring game at all? There is some core gameplay here EA needs to fix asap! I'm getting tired of seeing people drive to the basket, while i stand perfectly in front of them to block their lane..

I really do like this game, but it's frustration some times, and this recent game against OKC makes me wanna shelf this game, for now.

When it plays good, this game is perfect for me... Please EA make it play good at all times, and not on and off.

i have seen some games that high scoring irl so its not out of the realm of possibility as long as its a rare occurrence. but i definitely agree about the amount of points in the paint.

I was just admiring El Poops LeBron kick out video....I wish the A.I wings would help as hard as he did in that vid...seems like they only come once you are deep in the paint....or it could just be the philosophy of the teams I am playing...

Do you guys notice help from the wings on drives?

That could be the case here. But still, I'm seeing games with 80 regularly. It def needs some adjustment or just some sliders for us.

I might try play on Pro, see if I can compete better there. I have some games on All Star, when I catch fire and can compete with the CPU. Could be the issue here.. I'll try and post back.

What difficulty are you guys playing on?

I've been on all star for quite some time. I was thinking about going back down to Pro, or even try the next step up to see how it plays.

Having great games on all star though.

im playing a mix between rookie and pro lol. im trying to stick with rookie until i can figure out how to defend the paint. but judging from others reports it may be in vain until the patch.

That's weird as hell that the CPU is doing the pump outside on you 24th. I've never seen that, nor the big man all star dribbling that you posted. I did have Byron Mullins for LAC hit a 3 on me with 8 seconds left on the shot clock a few days ago, but that's about as bad as it's been.

I seriously believe that the difference between the One version and PS4 is "different" whether it be tendencies not reading correctly, or something.

Regardless, I'll check on the video this evening. I did upload these to facebook last night. I'm going to have to try a hardwired connection to the PS4, as it's getting dreadfully slow to upload here lately. I can only upload 1 clip every 30-45 seconds or so, and then it takes a while to get another "ready" to upload. But here's a PG fastbreak:

                        <iframe width="640" height="390" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/3q_BSm0A_do" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                        <iframe width="640" height="390" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jm9eAubogMQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

                        <iframe width="640" height="390" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Wl2QsCyhFOE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Pretty slick windmill on the break. I had him go baseline for the reverse dunk last night too, but couldn't upload due to the issue above.

This shows part of my frustration with player movement. That was an explosive move, but the animation was slow and jerky. The dunk was awesome the step(s) to gather were not.
What I noticed was that he jumped off his left foot and windmilled with his left hand. That's REALLY hard to do. I don't expect the game to recognize that PG is a 2-footed jumper but it would be a really nice attention to detail.

Since when does the CPU play almost intelligently during the final seconds of a close game? Was playing Pistons VS Wolves last night and I was up by 2 with ~30 seconds to go in the 4th quarter. I stole the ball on their possession and was up by 4. Then the CPU does the unthinkable... takes a time out and uses a screen to make a mid-range jumper afterwards. I inbound... and they foul me. I sink one of two free throws and CPU again takes a time out. This time they missed, but they kept fouling me. They even had a final possession with me up by 4 and Love even took a last second desperation fadeaway shot from the free throw line (which was money), but they still lost.

Anyway, it was a surprisingly enjoyable ending to the game. Never had anything like it before in Live 14. Was it a fluke?

Has there been a new update that fixed that stuff? I haven't played in a couple days.

its been hit or miss for me. sometimes i will get that great logic like you described. and sometimes (albeit rarely) they will be up by two with 30 seconds and just dribble out their shot clock giving me the chance for the tie/win. hopefully the "big patch" also addresses some of the issues like that as well. or ideally it would already be addressed via a synergy update and what you described will be the norm now. i havent played pretty much all week so that is possible.

The majority of the games for me have been sound logic by the CPU but I have had games where the CPU is holding the rock like they have the lead and trying to dribble out the clock or something. But more times than not the AI plays to what you'd expect.
