Do cutscenes and storyline in MyCareer = repetitive mode?

i mean year over year... will 2k produce a new story every year? won't that be cost/time prohibitive? doesn't this mean, by default we'll be asked to wear a clown nose in 2k15? and bob from maintenance will continue to have 10 birthdays per season in 2k16?

i believe storyline cutscenes and coded story have no place in a sports game because of this reason alone. ultimately i believe this punishes the loyal year-over-year players.

what say you? do you think this means repetition in next years, and subsequent years, MyCareer/MyGM modes versus this version 2k14? do you want cutscenes and story in your sports games?

I personally love the storylines in My player modes i hate the boring game after game like in previous NBA 2k games after you win the title not much to even play for

I haven't seen anybody ask this yet but I've been thinking about it as well. Personally, I really like the addition of cutscenes and storylines, even though some of them were not executed well. I think the cutscenes add more depth and interest rather than just game after game. I would actually like to see them expand on cutscenes and make various different storylines. The choices you make now don't really change much and I would like to see different paths for your NBA career, which would add replay value.

2k might have dug themselves a hole with the cutscenes. If they keep the same scenes it will become dull very quickly but if they keep making new ones then they might lose time to improve/test the gameplay, which is most important.

While I would like more cutscenes, the gameplay still needs refining all over. Also they haven't updated most ratings and tendencies since 2k13 so I would like to see that fixed.

Chauncey billups and Caron butler are still rated in the 80s. Lolwut.

I really enjoy the story too, but I can definitely understand what you're getting at. Ideally there'd be a "new" story every year, one that's more based on how you play and handle yourself off the court. I would love to pick from a couple of presets, i.e. the generational talent and predicted number 1 draft pick, the journeyman, the international etc.

I mean, let's be real. Sports development is more or less copy/paste. There's not a huge amount of work that goes into developing something new every year. There's only so much enjoyment we as customers can get out of gameplay tweaks and updated jerseys/courts. In my mind they took a step in the right direction this year in trying to flesh out the experience of what was previously a bunch of quick games in sequence.

Nope, i didn't ask for a cliche storyline that causes scripted outcomes in certain scenarios. Don't make a story or cutscenes and use those resources on something more important. The story and dialogue is kinda cheesy anyway.

I don't care what they do as long as they get rid of the scripted outcomes and scripted dynamic goals for games. I don't ever want to feel like I've lost control and am playing out some stupid cheesy RPG plot instead of my own NBA story

Im currently in my second season and so far there has been a decent amount of cutscenes, also bob has alot less bithdays now so its a bit less repetitive.

by the way once you hit 90 overall you will get you signature shoe, I get asked this alot

i can see it being ok if they allowed you to carry your player over from year to year. then they can just add more cutscenes and stuff for later in your career. but if you have to start over every year and you keep seeing the same scenes it is definitely an issue.

I like them also. I don't mind them adding these, I just wish they could polish them a bit more. Bob from maintenance needs to go away.

Re: Do cutscenes and storyline in MyCareer = repetitive mode?

I would like them to sad more cut scenes and clean them up. Also, I'd like fixes in the clipping from clothing and missing textures/colors such as the compression shorts.

I'd also like them to add more gear, more facial/body customization options (tattoos etc...) and I'd also like it harder to get in the Hall of Fame. Suddenly they changed it after patch 3 and it's really easy. I'm 7/10 objectives after my first season. After I get in the hall of fame I can't see a purpose to playing.

It would also be cool if they added a ring for winning the championship so you can rock it off court and on the black top.

They should also add more unlockables. More signature skills and personality badges you can only earn from doing certain things. All this adds replayability.

Re: Do cutscenes and storyline in MyCareer = repetitive mode?

Cut scenes can add immersion but have to be neutrals, by that i mean they can't lead your player to any stupid scenario you don't want to be part of.

For example, if i don't want my player to play nba2k with his agent or talk about nba2k to the franchise owner (sic) because i want him to be a lil bit mature, i should be able to not see those.

To say it another way, cut scenes should NEVER be triggered the way they are now ( after 5 games, this. after 10 games, that... etc)

If 2k wants cutscenes, then they need thousands of them to satisfy most players AND they should ONLY be triggered based on on-court performances/ off court behavior.

Cut scenes and storyline are supposedly made to add immersion to the mode, they are ruining it the way they are implemented now. They are making it a linear game like a solo mode COD could be...

Yeah. And they should find a way to make the players talk. Maybe use clips from games instead of creating ridiculous scenarios where they move their head but not their mouth and you have to read the closed captions.

And please, oh please gamer gods make them use a different voice actor(s) so we can choose a voice and my guy doesn't sound like an immature suburban kid trying to act ghetto.

Yes, this is the crux of the issue here. For example, it's lame that you always have to sit out the first couple of games on the bench and only get in when the starter gets injured. What if my player is an amazing prodigy, the next coming of LeBron? He should start right away. Or maybe my player is an up-and-coming journeyman who needs more time to get better and spends half the season buried in the bench rotation.

The point is, predetermined cutscenes suck in a mode that's supposed to play out differently for every individual player.

Actually the only way to save the dialogues IMO is to get rid of ALL voices.
Dialogues MUST be written and in a clear way.

                              because :

                              1. NOBODY wants 1 stupid generic voice !

(what if my guy is white? what if my guy is european/african/asian? does it make sense to speak hood english with no accent? No it does not.)

                              2. I don't think anybody wants NBa players to talk in voices that are not theirs. LIke i dont think anybody wants our player to talk and have ppl answering him in texts.. it's ... just terrible.

So dialogues HAVE to be written like in a RPG for it to make any sense.
