What determines contracts in this game?

What determines how much a player wants? Is it their overall, or how well they played their last contract season?

My guess is their overall rating.

What I find funny is the player has an asking price, but when you offer them that asking price, they do not accept! I have to offer them a little over the asking amount! What gives?

You have to use what they are asking for as a base and add a bonus if you REALLY want them signed. Example.......say CB A wants 4yrs 22M. You need to offer him 4yrs with a 5.5M salary and then add a bonus on top of that to get them to sign.

That doesn't all ways work. I once had a guy that turned down every offer I made I even decided since I had salary cap off to supersize it and offer him something like 50 mill for 4 years and a bonus of like 20 I think and he still turned it down and went to free agency. He was cut from the team that signed during preseason.I picked him back up from free agency for less than he wanted to begin with.

Some players have absolutely 0 interest in signing with your team. Some need to fit your scheme

I think it has something to do with production and overall.

For example, I just decided not to resign Tyson Alualu because he was a 74 and wanted 5 years 31 Million. However, when negotiations began, he was leading the NFL in sacks by 1. I think that had something to do with his inflated number. However, I RP'd it as a player playing well in a contract year and decided to let some other team give him an inflated price for his value.
