He decided on Utah Valley and made an immediate difference for the Wolverines scoring 22 points and averaging 10 boards a game his sophomore season and leading the Wolverines to a WAC championship, losing in Round One of the Tournament to Kentucky. His Junior season, he was even more dominant, scoring 26 and averaging 12 RPG as UVU won a second straight WAC title, this time pulling off an upset in the first round of the tournament over 6-seed Ohio State before falling to- who else?- Arizona in Round 2. It was his senior season where Hinson finally got some help in Orem, with a talented PG in Freshman Cael Dunbar and sharp-shooting SG Ian Fallwell. This led to another WAC championship, a 7-seed in the tournament and a Sweet 16 appearance... against Arizona. Led by Hinson's 28 points and 15 boards, the Wolverines up-ended the Wildcats by 12.
