Guys on IR for months before being taken off = lazy.

There's just NO other way to say it except that the entire team are either completely incompetent or disgracefully lazy. Roster editors on this site make rating changes for the 'other' game for free / in their own time. These guys at EA are getting PAID to do this. In the time they have been on twitch and facebook, they could have done a roster updated with UPDATED RATINGS. Anyone here could do it in a few hours. There's no other way to describe this other than they took people's money, laughed and left.

Maybe we are naïve thinking these guys give a crap. I mean, there's barely been a single rating edit. Trades weeks late at times. Maybe they are not "lazy", maybe they just don't give a crap.
I see you just got here in January, so let me start by making clear I know the quotes, I know who said them. You don't have to give me that information. I'm one of the most critical people of EA Sports and this franchise on these forums, so this isn't me trying to excuse them or anything.

If you're going to criticize them though, you need to be a little more fair/accurate about doing so. Calling them lazy or lacking work ethic just isn't the case. Again, making video games is hard work, making sports video games on yearly cycles is even harder. There's a difference between lazy and deceitful. What you're getting is deceitfulness. IMO EA Sports HAD to put a game out this year if they ever wanted Live to be a thing again. There's no chance in hell that they could cancel this year's game again and expect to ever come back. This game is not good and full of problems so they need to sell this thing and just make it to Live 15. They know they have large group of guys that'll eat up everything they serve up to them no matter how many times they see video of them spitting in the pot while they're preparing their food. So they'll promise whatever they need to, to get people looking in their direction to grab as many sales as they can off this product they know is bad.

They're working on 15 now man. As they should be. All that stuff not getting done like it should this year? That's not laziness, it just wasn't ever going to happen the way it was promised.

I'll grant you that making a game is difficult.

But we are talking about updating rosters and editing ratings. That does NOT take a lot of work. The 'other' game has an absolutely killer roster out right now that makes the game much better with all accessories, tendencies etc. That roster was done for FREE in their OWN time by users here. There's no excuse for EA's LIVE team barely changing a rating all season, barely fixing accessories, leaving injured players in starting line ups for months etc etc. A roster update, forget the hourly stuff they promised / even once a week would have been acceptable and it would not have been hard to do. Especially as they block users from doing it themselves. They basically went to sleep on major trades, ratings and injuries all season. That IS apathy.

I logged on a few moments ago and the rosters were updated. I checked here and there was no mention of it as I thought there would be. Just started over my Dynasty with the "new"rosters.

Honestly - this article should be addressing the lack of updates from BOTH titles, not just NBA Live's.

It's up to OS' writers to put the pressure and not have it one sided or seemingly slanted. I can see his a reader would get the impression OS is being harder on Live's dev team.

It's up to OS' writers to put the pressure and not have it one sided or seemingly slanted. I can see his a reader would get the impression OS is being harder on Live's dev team.

The fact that there aren't any articles about the unprecedented move of not correcting a single bug in this game is a pass in itself...you'd think outside of the roster updates and less than up to par graphics...the game was top shelf...

This is reflected in Scott's interview a few posts down....unless he is just putting on a front, he thinks that the updates have been on point, and the major issues within the game are the graphics and people not knowing how to play...if he truly believes this...I'm not sure anyone's being hard enough on the dev team...

Correct me if I'm wrong but are there not articles on all of the biggest issues facing 2K right now from OS? Problems with MyCareer, DRM, etc? This is an article about one of Live's issues just as there articles addressing the issues in 2K. Live doesn't need to be handled with kid gloves here.

I can understand the rhetoric around here after the elite/13 debacle and 14 not being a polished next gen experience. But unfair bashing has been around prior to all that so no I don't think live gets a fair deal here.

That's a crock & we all know this, especially when they apologized. Also I get your point but the series brought the criticism on itself since Live 06. If you think Live doesn't get a fair deal, did we as gamers get a fair deal when it comes to Live since 06?

Live will never be respected until it actually lives up to being called an only next gen title game.

I've been reading through the threads here and really can't argue for or against any opinions here except the extremes of "it's unplayable" and "the game is the best game on planet". But the part highlighted above kinda doesn't make sense. I don't understand that argument at all. Live's devs are lazy because they didn't update their rosters yet the other devs aren't lazy because they didn't update their rosters but somebody else did?

That selection implies that the other game's roster update wasn't all that great either but users made it better, ie making up for the devs "laziness".
                            Just an observation.

I'm not sure how live 09/10 got the critisims it did. Those were solid titles and brought me back to the series. Heck even one staunch detractor made a nice post about live 10 after seeing 14 lol.

I feel that ea atleast made an effort in 14 to rid the game of the things that were hated most in previous titles. 2 man animations and feet sliding. Yes still a ways to go and 15 better be the full next gen experience.

And one last thanks to WTF for cleaning up these boards!

I think that these guys are talented, they do have a passion for what they're doing and they do want to make a good basketball game. The problem I think is that they're also full of ego, arrogance and a certain level of stubborness. Over the summer just like every other team at EA since Live 10 and like the team's on Madden, these guys were talking about being up for the challenge of saving/changing the franchises and they understood people being skeptical and so on. Then as soon as the first sign of criticism comes their way they're making excuses and getting upset and blaming review sites and calling people that didn't buy the game "non-hardcore" basketball fans and all this stuff. Every opportunity they've gotten they've made it about us not knowing how to play their game or not playing their game the way they envisioned the game to be played as opposed to making the game the fans have wanted. That to me screams ego and pride more than a lack of work ethic or vision.

They know the game they want to make, the problem is it's really not the same game that it should be.
I would have to partially agree with you on this. I think you have to look deeper at the dev team on games. Every video game either should tell a great story than invokes emotion with the gamer OR it captures the true to life essence of what it's trying to replicate. Depending on the title, your criteria and bar is either one of these, and for some titles it's both.

Since we are talking about a sports title though, the later of the two is the most important thing. CAPTURING THE TRUE TO LIFE ESSENCE OF WHAT IT"S TRYING TO REPLICATE. In this case, it's NBA Basketball...and Live fails hard... true some of it more EGO than a lack of work ethic... but when I say look deeper what I mean is... you could have a team full of super talented coders, animators, artists, etc.. but if THEY truly do not understand the sport they are supposed to be replicating, they will always fail no matter how many hours they put in and no matter how great of a coder these guys are.

If you were to post an EA job description for the Live team it currently would read something like this: EA Sports is looking for talented coders and artists and animators to work on the upcoming Live 14 title.

What EA's job posting SHOULD say is... : EA Sports is currently looking for talented coders, artists and animators who TRULY have a passion and love and understanding of NBA basketball to come and work on the upcoming Live 14 title.

See the difference there? You could be awesome at your actual job function, but if you don't have a just as awesome understanding of the subject matter at which you are pumping out MIT grad worthy code, etc then it doesn't really matter.

I cant help but feel that there are too many people at EA Sports on that Live team that are coders, artists and animators that just HAPPEN to be working on the Live team, and that my friends is not the same as being a coder, animator, or artist that was hand picked to work on Live because they eat sleep and breathe the sport in which they are trying to replicate in a video game. This is the reason why Live 14 is a steaming pile of poop with a Kyrie Irving jersey sitting on top to mask the smell (poor Kyrie).

But with all of that I just said, you are right that it is EGO as well.. and the EGO comes into play that their ego is become to big for them to admit or understand that you cant just throw great devs on Live.. you need the RIGHT devs on live...but who are we to tell them what to do? They are EA Sports.. they can write a check big enough to just eliminate the need to evolve if a sports oragnization's license was up for grabs.
