Sports Daily: What will Phil do?

Phil Jackson is the King Midas of the NBA -- or at least the New York Knicks hope so.

Granted the parallels aren't exact, but it's much the same as the Bill Parcells in Miami experiment -- or more currently, Pat Riley in Miami. The former was much a flop, but Riley has had decent success overseeing the Miami Heat. But then again, how much credit do you give front office executives when people like LeBron James are on your team?

For the Knicks, they likely hope that Jackson can exact some type of change that puts the organization into championship contention. But unless Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant or Shaquille O'Neal dawn the blue-and-orange with the vigor of their prime years, Jackson may be adding a negative notch to his legacy by taking on the New York project.

Sound Off: Does the addition of Phil Jackson make the Knicks a championship contender in the near future?

I'm going to wait and see on Phil with this role. He's always been the perfect coach of a team ripe for a championship. But now he has to build one.

To early to tell that. They gotta keep Melo and put some stronger talent around him. Zenmaster not only gives them a great basketball mind running the show now, as opposed to Dolan, (think that's a bit of an upgrade ?)....but also a powerful recruitment tool.

Looks like they're gonna have to wait a year though, as they're not gonna be able to do much next year, money wise.

Anyone think the Knicks are using this as a ploy to attract guys like LeBron?

I think he'll be a great asset to the franchise both from a basketball I.Q standpoint and as a basketball operations lead. Don't know how far they'll go but definitely on the vertical.

I don't expect much from Phil. However if he can use his "pull" to keep James Dolan out of the decision making process as much as possible the Knicks are huge winners just on that alone.

I'd much rather Jackson with the final word over Dolan.

Yeah, but Lebron doesn't have James Dolan to deal with.

He will continue to smoke some of his peyote, especially after seeing he can't do much with this organization unless Dolan backs the fudge off lol.

Sadly, just watch Lebron end up in New York after all this. Leaving all the other cities to have even less chance to sign big name players because everyone would want to go to New York again.

I'm still hoping Lebron just trolls everyone and signs with some "small market team". Go to Charlotte, Milwaukee or something random like that. He'd be treated like the greatest person in that cities history lol. Really would be treated like a king.

That would be funny if any of those things happened. I don't see him going anywhere, especially to Knicks. Only thing I might see happening is him retiring in Cleveland by spending last few years if they have great team already.
