No, power moves are for bull rushing and fineness moves are for spinning and swimming your way through a lineman.
Think J.J. Watt and the young version of Dwight Freeney.

If you want your D-linemen to get to the QB they are. They are essentially their pass rush ratings.Comment

And you should pair these traits to the physical stats. A DE with high STR but low ACC/AGI/SPD will be better suited for the Bull Rush trait and PMV. Lower STR but higher ACC/AGI/SPD needs the Swim/Spin move traits and FMV.GT EarAssassin

That's a good point regarding traits!
In answer to the question, boosting finesse and power moves is critical to DE's getting to the quarterback, even if you are not usering them. I read an EA article that said blockshedding was just related to the run game while FIN/POW moves related to pass rushing. The article also said that the type of move triggered when pass rushing was based on which rating (FIN/POW) was higher.
I play a 4-3 scheme and like athletic ends that are around 280lb with decent strength, acceleration and speed. I like to max out the finesse move along with the pursuit rating (which improves rush angles and speed to the QB) Hope that helps!Comment

Re: Are Finesse and Power Moves important if you don't user the Defensive Line?
I've noticed that a lot of linemen will have one type of move substantially higher than the others. I understand that for DTs vs DEs, tackles or 3-4 DEs will usually rely on Power Moves while Defensive Ends rely on Finesse Moves. But, generally it's very rare to see a player with like 80 FMV and 80 PMV. One is usually at least 10 points higher than the other, unless one is manually increased via XP. So I'm wondering what happens when the two ratings are very close. Like I have Greg Hardy's PMV at 93 and his FM at 91.Comment

I like my rushers well rounded and my Olineman athletic. I think if the player had balanced passrushing skills they would play to the blockers weaknesses--a slow guy gets the finesse moves a weak guy gets the bull rush. One of the easiest ways to get sacks both playing and simming is have quick interior lineman. Marvin Austin plays like warren sapp lol. They are extremely important though and in many ways it has turned the DL from one of the positions you play if you don't want to play defense to one where the only way to sack the computer is to beat a lineman or two. Also mind sharing that article about what does what? There is so very little info on what does whatComment
