Re: MXGP The Official Motocross Game Demo Available Now on Steam

I honestly prefer games on console unless they are ones that can be modded and since MXGP is a licensed game of the real MXGP Milestone has said that modding extra tracks wouldn't be allowed. So I am buying a Xbox 360 copy (in hopes it will work on my US 360...like MUD did) but also buying a PS3 copy as a backup, in case the 360 version doesn't work. I have heard it may be region locked. I pretty much only play motocross games so though it is a lot of money on one title I don't really buy many games at all so its all good.

My PC runs the demo okay but I just don't care for PC games. Mine crashes too often.

hrudey thanks for the reply. Same thoughts on consoles. Let me if ur xbox version works because I want the game. Love motocross games and it appears this could be a winner. Assuming I will have to get it via eBay or the like.

I'll be glad to guinea pig and see if the Xbox version works for everyone. That way you will know whether to get it or go the PS3 route.

Downloaded and started messing around with career mode on PC, no problems so far. PS3 controller inputs and rumble work without any hiccups.

You can really tell that they understand motocross or atleast put time into it. Its the little things that matter, like the timed practice session before the big race in order to get a feel for the track and then having the ability to adjust the bike. Bike models are gorgeous, I can just sit in the pits and admire the bike.

I never was a huge fan of 1st person for any motocross games until MX Simulator and now MX GP is on the list where it feels natural to be in 1st person.

I was really hesitant with the title when I first saw trailers because physics for this type of game isn't an easy task and the rider animations are a bit goofy. But I'm glad to give them money to come back again at some point since what they put out in this game shows that they care and have taken time to cater to a niche rather than the masses

The issue I had in beta with the way the dirt looked in 1st person is gone in the release version, glad to see that.

            From my first race

I'm not sure how to take screenshots as print screen just turns up all black and I dont see an option via the in-game camera to take a screen of it.

I forgot about 2 others from the demo. The camera focus is pretty cool when you have a backdrop like the track

This game's been a blast so far.
Been using the MX2 bike to learn the tracks before jumping on the MX1

A quick optimization protip for anyone else playing on PC:

If you enable VSync through the pre-game MXGP launcher, the entire game (even the menus) will be locked at 30 frames per second.

However, if you disable VSync in the pre-game launcher, you can still enable it in your video card's control panel, and then the game will run at its normal frame rate with adaptive VSync turned on.

Silly, but at least it works.

Also, if any Americans (preferably South/East/Midwest) want to play multiplayer, I am jyoung on STEAM.

I haven't been able to connect to anyone for a multiplayer game yet.

Got stuffed on the turn before at Si Racha, returned the favor next turn

I noticed a few things after 3 races.

The AI on realistic difficulty ride better during qualifying than the actual race. I've had no problem having +48 second leads on the AI at this point, bit concerning. Also, I have never lapped an AI despite running a really fast pace.

Berms are hard to ride, I dont know why. I've tried a few times and there is some sort of collision that occurs in the process, causing you to crash.

I love the tracks, they remind me of what I used to ride on a daily basis for practice. I do wish we could get a clutch and the ability to seat bounce but not a huge deal. I think some of the missing elements that we see in MX vs ATV is actually a positive in my book, the game is less of a gimmick or arcade game.

I haven't tried online so I'm really hoping there's a crowd for racing when I get to that point.

The tracks get a lot better the further you get into the career. I was bored by the first couple of courses. But once I hit the Netherlands and Brazil levels, things started to get more interesting. France and Italy are pretty wild with how narrow and hilly they are.

I've actually jumped off into the crowd by accident a few times and likely paralyzed/killed some spectators. I guess that's what I get for racing blind and skipping the qualifying practice runs.

Really enjoying this game. I guess I suck but I am having some fun battles with the AI on med/hard difficulty. Career mode is awesome btw.

                              Pros:

                              - accessible but realistic dirt bike game
                              - great modes (career, championship, etc)
                              - AI battles clean and rides pretty good
                              - tracks are awesome. Good variety too
                              - replay is fun to use with plenty of options

                              Cons:
                              - not seeing many spirited rides from AC or Herlings. ( Herlings is 8th in points right now). I don't want them to win all the time but their results haven't been very realistic
                              - crash reset time is way too fast. Barely any penalty for crashing
                              - ready set go at the start gate is not motocross...

IMO the best dirt bike game released. Hopefully this turns into a annual or bi annual release
