Zone defense has nothing to do with it. The 11 Lakers were lazy and overconfident.

Kobe was also on one leg that year and the lakers roster was getting older.

Sounds like Mills might be headed to the NBAPA. Based on what we know about him that's a much better fit than being in charge of basketball decisions for a franchise.
