With 1080P/PS4 do we still need to use Game Mode on TV's?
Just wondering, in years past for optimal performance we were told to have our televisions to "Game Mode" eliminating features of televisions such as Motion Flow, True Motion etc...

Using game mode had nothing to do with resolution. Its to prevent as much input lag as possible as far as i know. Could be wrong on that though. -

Yes I know I'm just wondering if resolution will stay smooth if the game is on visual enhanced modes. There for looking perhaps smoother than just straight 1080P. That way us who have these expensive TV's can put them to good use on some games.Comment

I think they would still suggest game mode. You can play it on whatever setting you want as long as it dosent have any problems though. Ive never played on game mode and have been fine.
I play on a monitor though so full sized TVs may be different.Comment

Not sure if it's my tv or ps4 but game mode looks just as good as "normal" mode.
That wasn't the case with my ps3 where game mode looked much worse than normal.Comment

No input lag?Originally posted by bxgoodsThank you so much for making me think of this.
I just tested it out, and NO you don't need to run the game in GAME mode.
It makes the graphics look 100x better when you run it in normal mode... Wow. Thanks for bringing this up.
Would imagine it depends on your TV. As I say on my sony Bravia the game mode is just as good as normal except without the lag.( It's under 10ms)
I think its wrong to make a sweeping statement like "NO you don't need to run in game mode" as that won't be the case for everybody.Last edited by merchant1874; 04-30-2014, 07:33 AM.Comment

Re: With 1080P/PS4 do we still need to use Game Mode on TV's?
It truly does depend on the tv you have...however game mode has nothing to do with the resolution like the OP is referring to. It is supposed to help with input lag. Nothing to do with resolution.I'm a diehard St. Louis Cardinals Fan!! Birds on the bat til I die!Comment

Depends on year/model of tv. It's all about reducing input lag. A lot of newer panels have less lag, so it's not necessary.HE'S GOT ONE FLAP DOWN!Comment

Is there a big difference between 720 and 1080 on the ps4 ? I only have a 720. At least I haven't had any frame rate issuesComment

Re: With 1080P/PS4 do we still need to use Game Mode on TV's?
I think a lot of people here are confusing what game mode actually does. The primary thing it does is turn off all of the TV's extra processors that try to make the image look better, which in turn decreases the time between when the TV receives the image and when it actually displays the image (input lag). It has nothing to do with make the image look smoother or better.Comment

You will have people that say they cant see a difference. Other will say they can. I can. The frame rate wont be different on either one though.Comment

lol, so as we all said, it turns off the extra enhancements of the tv that tries to make the image look better....I think a lot of people here are confusing what game mode actually does. I was under the same impression but after getting a Samsung HDTV it's a little confusing. In this TV turning on Game Mode locks the display on Standard. This means that it is only (?) changing the sharpness/brightness values. Maybe different brands have the Game Mode implemented without reducing picture quality?I think a lot of people here are confusing what game mode actually does. Re: With 1080P/PS4 do we still need to use Game Mode on TV's?
My bad I meant the Lag not the resolution. Im guessing it will have less lag than PS3 but still wont be exact real time. However if the picture does look that much more smooth, (these features can iron out some rough edges) without too much of a time lapse perhaps ill just learn to get the timing down with the enhancements on.Comment
