Re: Sony San Diego Making Hockey Game?
Doubtful. Nick Livingston (one of the designers on MLB The Show) said recently on a stream that although they would love to make an NHL game, they currently are not. It's unlikely that they'll go back into hockey or football at this point, especially since he mentioned that he thought the EA series had a good foothold of the market. -

The more sports games the better, but just not something like their RIP (for a reason) basketball franchise.Doubtful. Did they say anything about basketball? Their last few titles were pretty bad, in my opinion (keep in mind that I'm all about 5on5 basketball with real NBA players, and don't care about story mode). My Specs:

CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
GPU: Monochrome display

If they made an NHL game on par with The Show... I would never leave my arm chair.NHL REVAMPED ROSTERS - CO-CREATORComment

That would be incredible. Great that he even mentioned the notion.
I think hockey is the best sport for a video game.
Football is really tough to make defense fun. You can only control one player at a time
Baseball games are kind of spelled out on defense too. Plus i always feel like need to be played 9 innings to feel rewarding but that's a really long time
Basketball and shooting the ball into a hoop just isn't satisfying while controlling a player
Soccer is pretty solid but it's slower paced than hockey.
Hockey is fast, the controls feels solid, you can always control the right player you want on defense. and EA's analog controls for puck handling and shooting feel so right.
I really wish someone else could pick up and create some competition for EA. Though i love the series, It seemed like EA NHL hit a wall around 2010 when 2k got out of the game.Comment

The more sports games the better. The one thing I would recommend would be to follow a GM series from 2bcproductions on youtube.Comment

Re: Sony San Diego Making Hockey Game?
That would be great but highly unlikely...hockey is unfortunately still not a vastly popular sport as seen in TV ratings.
Plus San Diego has a real hockey team named the Padres...all their scores are very reminiscent to an actual hockey game such as 2-1, 3-0, 2-0, 4-1....I Want My $2 Dollars
NFL- Eagles
NHL- Flyers

AHH many a late night spent playing faceoff 98 co op franchise and the sound of hits against the boards was just awesome.
Me and a buddy would pound coffee and stay up all night (had to get the kids to bed first you know)
Great fun. Great game.Comment

Re: Sony San Diego Making Hockey Game?
..and the World Series averaged over 17 million viewers. Almost 20 million watched Game 6. The NBA Finals averaged over 14 million viewers. NFL Wild Card Weekend had 37 million viewers.
6 million, comparing it to other top sports, isn't good.
The WWE averages over 4 million per Raw. The Stanley Cup, by viewers, is closer to the WWE than any of the other three major sports in America.--

Re: Sony San Diego Making Hockey Game?
I love hockey and hockey gaming, but hockey fans are a different breed of animal and therefore, like soccer fans, can sometimes see the sport as superseding all other sports. I mean hockey gamers get worked up about the goalie's drink bottled not popping off the net on a goal and lack of group hugs, even if the game itself (2K) plays very similar to the actual sport.
It would seemingly make more business sense to produce a game that would contain a sports package which would include hockey. EA hockey makes it because of the EA name and the appeal to the younger, arcade minded crowd.Comment

Re: Sony San Diego Making Hockey Game?
The early FaceOff games were a lot of fun on the PlayStation, but the series definitely had a hard time handling the transition to the PlayStation 2.
I doubt Sony San Diego is working on anything other than more MLB The Show games.
Sony as an entire company is struggling, outside of the relatively minor success their games division is having.Last edited by jyoung; 06-26-2014, 02:03 PM.Comment
