Is anyone else hitting into a higher number of double plays than in past iterations of the game? I'm leading the league in franchise in double plays by a good margin. I've never had this problem in past games, and I don't like using swing influence unless it's a sac fly attempt but man I just cannot stay out of the double play. My pci placement seems to not matter as much this year, bc more times than not balls i square up are going right to ss for the easy dp.

Re: Double Plays
What game mode are you playing? And what control scheme?
Maybe it's a timing issue...
I noticed a lot of DP's when I first started playing this year as my timing was a little off. Lots of ground balls is usually a sign that you're just slightly ahead of the pitch.
Once my timing was down I was getting more variety in where the ball was being hit to. -
Re: Double Plays
I tend to hit into a lot of double plays when I am out in front of off-speed pitches. Have you noticed how hard doing a hit and run is this year. I feel like every time I do one I hit a ball right at the shifting infielder.Comment

I'm not having this problem any other time unless I have a guy on first. Probably just in a rough patch, but I was just curious if anyone else was noticing this since I've never been this bad with thisComment

Re: Double Plays
I'm using zone hitting. Most of my hitting is fine, but when I have a guy on first more times than not I'm hitting into a double play. I understand when the ball is down and I'm early on my swing chances are the ball is rolling to 2b or ss, but a lot of the time I'm getting pitches that I can square up with decent to good timing and I'm still rolling them over.

Re: Double Plays
I am in mid June in my franchise and up until late May I was experiencing the same issues but now they are mostly resolved.
I only slightly changed my approach at the plate. I started being more selective (even willing to go down looking on that 2 seamer low), bunted more, and called the hit and run more often. But probably the largest factor was just the random/chance element.Comment

Re: Double Plays
Didn't want to start another thread, however is anyone else having trouble TURNING double plays on defense since the patch?
I haven't a clue as to if what I'm experiencing is due to the patch, but something surely seems to have changed for me. On DP balls previously I'd make my throw to second and preload my throw to 1st, never had an issue. Now my throw will preload, however my 2b or SS will start the throwing animation but then doesn't throw the ball? I've not turned a DP in the half dozen or so games since the patch installed.

Re: Double Plays
As far as double plays I'm not really hitting into that many this year actually probably lower than years past. Definitely try letting a few pitches go at first and wait on something a little higher, if you don't have a strong hitter up then influence to the right side and send the runner and be early or late and try to find the hole(don't do this on the first pitch though). If nothing else just hold the PCI down in the zone and wait on a pitch down there, just remember that if you swing early at a pitch your PCI will automatically move up some and if your late it will automatically move down some.

Re: Double Plays
I'm doing a double franchise with the Rays and Phillies and both teams are grounding into a TON of double plays. Lately it has been about 3 per game.
Rays are 29th in GIDP
Phillies are 30th in GIDPComment

Re: Double Plays
Hate to dig up an older thread but the double plays are really starting to grate on my last nerve. Just in the last 3 games alone I've hit into 7 double plays including one game where I hit into 4. It's almost at the point where I feel like it's pre-determined to happen as I can get a fastball up and somehow still swing over the top of it. I couldn't swing over the top of it in real life unless I was using an oar and swinging the bat like it was a tomahawk. I've never seen such a high amount of GIDP in my life and when it's coupled with the fielders seemingly getting to everything in the hole while being able to miraculously turn across their bodies while momentum carries them towards first base all the while throwing a perfect throw to second to start the double play it seems a bit ridiculous.
Last night saw the strangest play I've seen in the 180 games I've played or so. With runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out the CPU hit a grounder to Adrian Gonzalez at first, he wheeled to throw to second to start the 3-6-3 DP but Gordon never moved from his position pre-pitch so he never covered second, he took the throw then just turned right back around and threw it back to first for the out allowing the runner from 3rd to score. It was beyond strange, never seen it before and caught me completely off guard.Comment

Re: Double Plays
I will maybe hit into 1 DP a series...MAYBE. But this is because I am a NL style guy at heart and have 2 huge offensive strategies.1. Have speed and lots of it.2. Play small ball with all that speedif u hit into a lot of DPs then get aggressive with ur runners, even if they aren't base stealers get into hitters counts and do hit and runs.Comment

Re: Double Plays
I'm actually 3rd to last (or hit into 3rd fewest double plays) in the majors. But like baseballphanatic stated above, I am aggressive on the basepaths. I hit and run a lot and try to steal whenever i feel there is an opportunity.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
