VERMAELEN QUESTIONABLE FOR MATCHDAY 1
LONDON--After hyper extending his knee against Cagliari on 28 July, Tomas Vermaelen may not be on the team sheet for Arsenal on Matchday 1 against Aston Villa. Arsenal, already experiencing trouble with a thin backfield, will sorely miss Vermaelen's presence. It is unknown whether new manager Ben Benjamin will recall Johan Djourou or Ignasi Miquel from loan, although that seems unlikely at this point.
