MELO CROWNED AT LAST AS KNICKS BEAT NUGGETS IN SEVEN

It seemed like it just wouldn't happen. Much like the previous NBA finals the New York Knicks have participated in, this one had a loss written all over it as they matched up against the Denver Nuggets with homecourt advantage and took a 3-1 lead. However, the Nuggets fought back and tied at 3 games each before the Knicks blew them out in the Garden for their first NBA Championship.

Finals MVP could have been just about anyone from Carmelo Anthony to Amar'e Stoudemire or Iman Shumpert but it eventually ended up in the hands of the former Nugget himself, Melo. So often criticised and so often mocked for not being able to achieve ultimate success in the NBA, Anthony knew this was his chance, maybe even his last one, to prove his doubters wrong and go all the way for the Knicks and for himself. “ I definitely sat down and thought about how it's always gone wrong for me in these playoffs,” said an emotional Anthony afterwards, “ Many times I thought I'd finally win it and it never happened. When we went 3-1 up and they pulled us back to 3-3 it felt like deja vu. Like it was gonna happen all over again. But I wasn't gonna let that happen and neither were these champions beside me here. We came together last night before this game for 30 minutes and told each other that we just couldn't lose it like this. It had to be ours. And thankfully, it is.”

The NBA 2013 Playoffs will go down as one of the most unpredictable in recent history. #1 from the East, Miami Heat, had the 2013 MVP in their team and were aided with a healthy team however they went down 4-2 to the Wizards. “There are gonna have to be some changes, that's for sure,” quipped a source close to the Heat following the loss. #2 Chicago Bulls fell to the Cavs in 5 games who fell themselves to the Knicks in a 4-1 loss as the Wizards would eventually defeat the #4 Philadelphia Sixers, who beat the Indiana Pacers, before losing in a thrilling seven game series vs the eventual champions, the New York Knicks.

Out West and #1 ranked the Denver Nuggets stay true to their regular season form as they went through the Utah Jazz in 6 games as well as the Minneosota Timberwolves and OKC Thunder on their way to runner up status. #6 Golden State Warriors handled the Los Angeles Lakers and were unlucky to lose to the Thunder in a seven game series where Steph Curry was clearly fouled as he shot the potential game winner in the all-important game.

      Re: #FearTheSword: A Cavs Association [NBA 2K13]

STEVE NASH STARTS NEW ERA AT CAVS
Following the departure of General Manger Chris Grant from the Cleveland Cavaliers, owner Dan Gilbert decided to go in a different direction as he convinced recently retired and Hall of Fame inductee Steve Nash to spearhead a new time for the Cavs. Nash signs a 5 year deal with the usually troubled franchise, who finished with a record of 47-35 in the 2012-2013 NBA season and made the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

The work for Nash begins with the NBA Draft as the Cavs were handed the fifteenth & twentieth pick in . Reports are that Nash would like to pick up the seventh pick, currently owned by the Celtics, but it is unclear if the Cavs have the assets to pull the trade off. Another question for Nash will be when the rebuild is officially complete for the team. Started in 2010 as their leader and idol left them for the sunny weather of Miami, the fan base may start to become impatient with further losing seasons. However, an extra year of a struggling year in terms of results may be beneficial for the future considering the much-talked about potential in the upcoming 2014 NBA Draft. A playoff appearance has appeased to the fans but it is thought Steve Nash may be hoping to fall into the lottery for the deep draft this summer.

Free agency isn't expected to produce many surprises from either side, incoming or outgoing, with the Cavs perhaps looking to just fill out their roster with one year deals as opposed to attempting to lure star free agents such as Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Andre Iguodala. As far as coaching changes go, Byron Scott stays on as coach following an impressive season in developing the young core of the Cavs.

      2012-2013 Transactions:
Cavs sign Stephen Jackson for 1yr/ 2.77m
Cavs trade CJ Miles, Omer Casspi, Chris Quinn & a 2014 2nd Rd Pick to Philadelphia Sixers for Kwame Brown, Lavoy Allen & 2013/2014 1st Rd Picks
Cavs trade Tyler Zeller, Luke Walton, 2014 1st Rd Pick (BOS), Daniel Gibson, Wayne Ellington, 2013 2nd Rd Pick (SAC) for Marcus Thornton, Brandon Bass, Fab Melo, 2014 1st Rd Pick from Celtics. Trade also had Rajon Rondo & Jeff Green heading to Sacramento for Isiah Thomas, Salmons, Chuck Hayes & 3 1st Rd Picks & multipled 2nd Rd Picks

Sacramento Kings sign Tyreke Evans 5yr/ 47.51m
Philadelphia Sixers sign Andrew Bynum 4yr/ 70.32m
San Antonio Spurs sign Manu Ginobili 1yr/ 7.61m

Cavs notable awards 2012-2013 NBA season:
Kyrie Irving- All NBA 1st Team, All Defense 2nd Team
Dion Waiters- All Rookie Second Team

          Re: #FearTheSword: A Cavs Association [NBA 2K13]

          2013/2014:
It was a bitterly disappointing end to the season for the Cleveland Cavaliers as after much potential being shown before the All-Star Break, the Cavs were very unfortunate as injuries tampered with their season. Key player Kyrie Irving missed 7 weeks due to his injuries while hot shooter Dion Waiters & the double double machine of Tristan Thompson also suffered problems as the Cavs were unable to clinch a playoff spot.

However, for the Denver Nuggets, a second straight trip to the finals ended in triumph & celebration as Finals MVP Ty Lawson helped spearhead their title challenge vs the Chicago Bulls. After their star player Andre Iguodala turned his back on the team in the summer of 2013 many people expected the Nuggets to struggle, but they couldn't have been more wrong as Lawson says " People doubting us just made us stronger. You don't succeed if you're not challenged and this past summer there were definitely times when it looked like we would never win a title."

For the Cavs GM Steve Nash, the focus turns to the offseason now. 3 1st Rd Picks are in the hands of Nash following a few savvy trades with Andrew Wiggins believed to be the prime focus for the Cavaliers GM. As far as free agency goes, armed with almost 50m in cap space, Nash plans to attempt to lure LeBron James back with Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh & Paul George targets as well.

          CAVS 2013/2014 TRANSACTIONS:
Cavs trade Andersen Varejao to San Antonio Spurs for Tracy McGrady & 2014 1st Rd Pick

Nice roster. I have a Cavs assoc. going on right now (not posted on OS). Im going into year 3 with Kyrie, Dion, Parsons, Julius Randle, and Varejao as my starting 5. The cap room for the Cavs is great. Hoping i can retain Dion after this year.

Thanks and that seems like a really solid team. Waiters is alright but hasn't really worked out that well for me. He scores points but I dunno, doesn't really fit in.

To anyone and everyone that is reading this, to let you know that for 13/14 I'll be posting just the score and Cavs POTG. 2014/15 is the real story so hope that's alright

Ahhh, NBA 2K13. The best game in my opinion for Association mode. I made SOOOO many Associations on 2K13, and they all had crazy yet awesome twists. Definitely going to follow this.

IRVING: I'LL BE PATIENT AS LONG AS THERE'S PROGRESS

Cleveland Cavaliers star of the present and future, Kyrie Irving, appeared on the set of ESPN's First Take today to discuss his team's future as well as the goals that he has set out for himself for next season. Irving also admitted that it would be easy to become frustrated with his team's rebuilding but is able to adapt to it so long as their is significant progress being made. Here's a recap of the most interesting bits from the show

Stephen A: Kyrie, you've come into the league and you've impressed just about everyone that may have had a fair bit of criticism before you came into the league. How far do you think you can go? What's Kyrie Irving's ceiling?

Kyrie Irving: Erm, I think I've still got a bit to go you know. Ever since I came into the league I haven't been on a team that's been expected to win or even had the chance of doing so. We've been a pretty below-average team so I think that I need a higher ceiling to aim for and ultimately, reach.

Skip Bayless: Is it frustrating when you are playing so well and yet the Cleveland Cavaliers seem so hesitant to pull the trigger on a big move to surround you with more talent?

KI: It can be. But at the same time so long as there is significant progress being made on and off the court then I don't think I can complain much. The board have always informed me of what they wish to do in the future and I honestly believe the aim is close to being achieved. We've got another year of maybe not being able to put up a real challenge for the championship yet but after that I feel we should be proper contenders.

SAS: Have you spoken to LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony about being a part of the roster at Cleveland?

KI: I try not to get involved in that stuff you know? I'm sure many players would be calling them or texting them about why they should go to their team or not so I wouldn't think that it'd make much of a difference for them. Obviously I would absolutely love to have them here but we'll have to wait and see what happens in the summer.

SB: Is there any way you think you can improve this season? Like, in your opinion and not going off what the board or coach sets out, would there be any X-Factor that could see you make a push for the Larry O'Brien trophy?

KI: Erm, I think if Tristan (Thompson) has a breakout year then we'd be very well set up for the seasons ahead. Tristan has the ability to average almost a double-double every game but we all know it takes time to get used to the league and how it works so hopefully he's managed that and we can progress significantly. If we can stay clear of injuries then it should help us alot as well.

Kyrie isn't upset at the Cavs....yet

LEBRON COMES HOME AS MELO JOINS COACH POP IN SAN ANTONIO

After 4 long years of hurt, pain, feeling of betrayal & struggles on and off the court for the Cleveland Cavaliers, their franchise has been lifted by the news that 4 time MVP, 1 time NBA Champion LeBron James is coming home. Having opted out from his Miami Heat contract, LeBron met with Cavaliers GM Steve Nash & upon receiving an apology from owner Dan Gilbert after his astonishing letter 4 years ago, arguably the greatest basketball player since Michael Jordan has uprooted yet again but this time he's heading back to the place he never should have left.

" 4 years ago I made the difficult decision of leaving Cleveland and taking my talents to Miami. In those 4 years I thoroughly enjoyed my time with a great organization & finally got my hands on the Larry O'Brien trophy. However, it was also during that time I realised that winning the NBA Championship wasn't my prime target as a basketball player...instead it was to bring glory & happiness to my hometown. Leaving behind what Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh & I built in Miami alongside Erik Spoelstra, Micky Arison & Pat Riley was one of the toughest decisions I've had to make but at the same time, coming back home to Cleveland, Ohio was one of the easiest.”

LeBron leaves a Miami team in the middle of a rebuild as Chris Bosh also left the Heat to sign for the Los Angeles Lakers. Heat were able to bounce back slightly with the signing of Kyle Lowry as Bosh joins forces with Isiah Thomas & Pau Gasol who also signed up for the storied franchise. Staying out west with San Antonio Spurs bringing about perhaps the biggest surprise when they announced Carmelo Anthony had signed up for them. Along with Tim Duncan returning for another 2 seasons, the Spurs are building up for one last run at the Championship with the current core. Manu Ginobili, however, decided to uproot to Minneosota on a one-year deal. Meanwhile, the Eastern Conference seems to be as competitive as ever. Along with LeBron signing, the Cleveland Cavaliers also added Lance Stephenson, Shane Battier, Thabo Sefolosha, Mike Miller, Kenyon Martin with the Chicago Bulls keeping Luol Deng while adding the veteran Jason Terry. The Indiana Pacers, however, have endured a shocking summer. Having traded away DJ Augustien to the Phoenix Suns for the #9 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Larry Bird & co. had to watch as Paul George signed for the Orlando Magic. Orlando now boast the likes of George, Paul Millsap, #2 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft Anthony Bennett & also signed Rodney Stuckey to start at the PG position.

ESPN SOURCES: KEVIN LOVE REQUESTS TRADE FROM TIMBERWOLVES

ESPN Sources are tonight reporting that All-Star Power Forward Kevin Love has informed the front office of the Minneosota Timberwolves that he wishes to be traded. Love, who has the option of opting out of his contract next summer, apparently is unhappy with the lack of moves the Timberwolves front office has made in the past summers to build on recent playoff success and believes now is the best time to move on. While Minny are under no pressure to trade a player that is guaranteed to play at least another season at their franchise, the temptation to receive something now instead of nothing next summer might prove to be too tempting. We look at the teams that may be interested in Love & what they have to offer:

                        LA Lakers:
Offering: Sean Kilpatrick, Pau Gasol, 2 1st Rd Picks
With Chris Bosh signed up, the Lakers may decide to build around him now with Pau Gasol on a hefty 3yr/ 20m contract. The terms & longitude of the contract may prove a stumbling block in trade negotiations however if #1 pick Sean Kilpatrick is offered along with the Spaniard it may become a more attractive proposition

                        Cleveland Cavaliers:
Offering: Shabazz Muhammed, Lance Stephenson, Dion Waiters, 2 1st Rd Picks
An All-Rookie 1st Team member in Shabazz, a nigh-on triple double machine in Stephenson & a future All-Star in Waiters packaged with 2 future 1st Rd Picks is a tempting offer for a franchise that would prefer to build with youth instead of past-it players such as Gasol. The Wolves may ask for #3 pick Andrew Wiggings or pick #14 Dante Exum but turning down Shabazz, Stephenson & Waiters is unlikely

                        Miami Heat:
Offering: Doug McDermott, Gorgui Dieng, Mitch McGarry, 2 1st Rd Picks
There's not a lot of proven talent here and with LeBron James & Chris Bosh leaving Miami there's no guarantee Kevin Love would be best pleased to be traded here. However, a team consisting of Kyle Lowry, Dwyane Wade, Shawn Marion, Kevin Love & Brendan Haywood should be enough to push Heat into the playoffs. It's unlikely that Micky Arison & Pat Riley even consider an offer for Love but if they do, expect something similar to this.

                        Golden State Warriors:
Offering: Andrew Bogut, David Lee, Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson, 2015 1st Rd Pick
It's not the best offer that the Wolves should end up with considering Lee's hefty contract, Bogut's injury problems despite being an expiring contract & Harrison Barnes tendency to produce average performances as much as he produces spectacular ones. Klay Thompson will probably have to be sacrificed to make the trade look more attractive, however questions have to be asked regarding Steph Curry's happiness should Thompson be traded. Again, it's a little unlikely Golden State would head into the race for Love considering there's a lot to lose.

The Cavs were close to making noise in the playoffs last year until star PG Kyrie Irving went down injured following the All-Star break which hampered their season. What have they done since? Only added future All-Star Andrew Wiggins in the NBA Draft 2014, LeBron James & Kevin Love. It might be a year too soon to win it all but this team is a contender in the East

The Bulls went all the way to the NBA Finals last season only to be beaten by a well-organized Denver Nuggets side. They've added veteran 3 point shooter Jason Terry & rookies to boost the strength in the bench but with no changes to the starting roster they should still be a contender. Carlos Boozer might be flipped for someone who can be more effective during the season.

The Indiana Pacers didn't just lose this summer...they were knocked out. From trading away DJ Augustien for a rookie to losing Lance Stephenson to the Cavs & Paul George in free agency to the Orlando Magic, the Pacers made sure that the next few seasons would be ones of disappointment & plenty of losing. The Harrison twins on the same team were a nice touch and could turn out to be decent draft picks.

The Detroit Pistons finally made the playoffs last year only to be swept by the Miami Heat in the first round. Adding Jrue Holiday certainly made a difference while Greg Monroe stuck around for a few more years. In a strong Eastern Conference, the Pistons might struggle to get a second round berth.

The Bucks missed out on post-season basketball last season and haven't really done much to get back their either. A contract extension for Larry Sanders was agreed upon by all parties but in a conference that's had most of its teams improve, the Bucks will struggle to make the playoffs but in the end star quality should be enough for them.

When you give a hefty contract to a player of JJ Hickson's calibre you can't expect miracles. And that's exactly what the Bobcats have left themselves with. A nice backcourt of Kemba Walker & KCP with MKG and Julius Randle also on the starting roster is a positive for a team that's struggled to make the post season in recent years. However, Hickson & Biyombo at centre weakens this team and it's another lottery for them.

For the Hawks, losing Josh Smith was a blow in their attempts to build a winning side in Atlanta. However, with Jeff Teague, Lou Williams, Jeff Green, Al Horford still around, there's a nice core to be built around. Add in rookie Marcus Smart and Atlanta should contend for the postseason.

The Miami Heat lost the best player in the world this summer as LeBron James opted out of his contract to return home to Cleveland. At the same time, Chris Bosh decided a new scenery was needed as he headed to Los Angeles. Kyle Lowry, Shawn Marion, OJ Mayo, Alonzo Gee were nice pickups in free agency and a successful offseason was finished off with the additions of rookies in Mitch McGarry & Doug McDermott. But in a Eastern Conference that's increased in competitiveness over the summer, the Heat won't be playing basketball in May.

The Washington Wizards pulled the trigger on a trade two summers ago that's gotten the nation's capital post-season basketball since. However, questions have to be asked of how much is left in the tank for Paul Pierce & Kevin Garnett. There should be enough talent for the Wizards to secure a high playoff spot but a 1st Rd exit is possible.

Going back to last summer the Orlando Magic had picked up the #3 in the NBA Draft Lottery & it looked as if the rebuilding was going to continue. However, picking up Paul Millsap changed the fortunes around & the franchise made the post-season for the first time since Dwight Howard had left. The addition of All-Star Paul George is a huge signal of their intent to win while adding Rodney Stuckey to run the point guarantees better efficiency at that position. Orlando are now a contender in the East.

Arguably the best PG & C ply their trade in a Sixers uniform & with the passionate Philly crowd behind them, they are the favourites for the Eastern Conference this year.

The New York Knicks went into the offseason last summer aided by 2 draft picks, one of them a lottery pick as well as being the reigning NBA Champions. Fast forward a year and the franchise is in a complete mess to say the least. Unable to even make the playoffs, 2013 Finals MVP Carmelo Anthony decided to leave for a better winning situation in San Antonio with the Spurs while lottery pick Nerlens Noel has had to do with sitting on the bench with Tyson Chandler playing out the rest of his contract. Another lottery pick is surely in the Knicks future.

Toronto have a lot of cap space to make some moves in the 2015 NBA Free Agency with Rudy Gay, Andrea Bargnani currently expiring contracts. There's talk around the league that Gay is pleased with Toronto but that the Front Office don't exactly share the same feelings. Going out in the playoffs last summer in the first round was a blow to a franchise who assumed they had a bright future & this was followed by Kyle Lowry leaving for Miami Heat. Expect another season of disappointment Toronto fans.

Unable to contend in the playoffs last season, the Nets were able to bring Kris Humphries back for another run at the title with a similar core & with better depth than the previous year, it should change their luck.
