Cover 4 should never be considered a run defense. It is a heavy deep pass defense. The fact that it is an effective run defense shows how broken Madden is. I am not saying you should never get a stop, but more times than not, calling a cover 4 you shouldn't be in position to stop the run unless there was a blown block.

I can't necessarily speak to what's in the video, but Cover 4 (or Quarters) in real life is very much an aggressive run defense. There was a time not too long ago when it was THEEE defense in football (pro and college) because you could play it against anything. You were safe deep because of the 4 across, but you could play the pass aggressively underneath with pattern matching and the safeties were able to support the run because their initial movements were all based on the release of their #2 receiver (something Madden still needs work on).

I remember the Titans when they had Fisher would play quarters with essentially 8 in the box. The Bengals pretty much use it as their base at this point. Michigan State is 8 in the box almost every early down and they play quarters just about more than any team I've ever seen.

He is obviously contrasting this Madden strategy to the NFL and I agree w his point.

The fact you are flipping your play, spreading your lbs and shifting your dline to the left regardless of the strong/weak side of the offense shows how pre-determined the outcomes are and how gimmicky the schemes are.
